Union Baptist Church serves the Hull community from Highway 106, four miles south of Ila in Madison County, Georgia. Rooted in an 1848 organization and a Bible-centered mission, the church is known for biblical teaching, prayer, evangelism and ministries that include children, youth, men and women. Its regular rhythm pairs Sunday School and morning worship with a Wednesday dinner, adult prayer meeting and youth activities.
Organized in 1848 on Highway 106
On March 18, 1848, citizens and members of several churches met to enroll their names for the purpose of constituting a new church. Union Baptist Church was organized on July 12, 1848. Its founding brought together citizens and members of several congregations around a shared religious purpose. The church remains at 2900 Highway 106 South in Hull, and its mission statement calls for glorifying God as a Bible-centered church with godly leadership under the lordship of Jesus Christ through prayer, fellowship, missions, evangelism and the equipping of believers for the work of the Great Commission by the grace of God.
Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
Union Baptist Church's core purpose is to exalt Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord while equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. The two aims are joined in the church's description of its calling: honor Jesus as Savior and Lord, then prepare people for active service. Evangelism is equally important, with the church seeking to bring men, women, boys and girls to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
It teaches that God's purpose is that all people have eternal life and that God has provided this through the gift of his Son, Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9-10 is central to that teaching: those who confess with their mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in their heart that God raised him from the dead are saved, with heart belief resulting in righteousness and mouth confession resulting in salvation. Prayer, fellowship, missions and evangelism are named as central expressions of the church's calling, alongside equipping believers for service.
Sunday School at Ten, Worship at Eleven
The Sunday gathering begins with individual Sunday School classes at 10:00 AM for all ages. Adults can join classes for men, women or couples, while younger students have separate youth and children's classes. Visitors are always welcome to join these classes. Nursery facilities for infants from birth through age 3 are available during Sunday School, allowing parents of the youngest children to take part in the full Sunday rhythm.
Sunday Morning Worship begins at 11:00 AM, and nursery care is also available during worship. The church's Children's Church is intended for children ages 3 through second grade, giving the morning gathering a distinct children's lesson alongside the nursery facilities. The times for Sunday and Wednesday gatherings place these activities within the same regular week alongside dinner, prayer and youth programming.
Dinner, Prayer and Awana on Wednesday
Wednesday evening begins with a dinner meal served from 5:30 to 6:15 PM. At 6:30 PM, adults gather for prayer while youth meet for activities that include the Awana program. The meal gives the evening a shared beginning before the church separates into adult prayer and youth ministry. This weekly pattern makes room for both an intergenerational gathering and age-specific ministry.
Children Through Sixth Grade and Girls Ages 5 to 18
Vacation Bible School welcomes children age 3, provided they are potty-trained, through completion of sixth grade. The church offers this as a full week of children's ministry. Its range reaches from three-year-olds to students who have finished sixth grade.
Another youth-centered ministry is American Heritage Girls, or AHG, a Christ-centered character and leadership development program for girls ages 5 to 18. AHG is dedicated to building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country. The group meets every other Saturday and normally has one regular meeting each month, with an alternate meeting devoted to a special activity. Members work on badges, undertake service projects, pursue Faith Awards and enjoy outdoor activities in a Christ-centered environment. The ministry also usually plans two larger trips each year.
Men Serving and Women on Missions
Men's Ministry is organized around the motto “Men Serving For God's Glory.” The phrase places service at the center of the men's ministry and connects it with the church's broader mission of glorifying God. Women on Missions has a fuller stated purpose: through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, members desire a fellowship of women who serve with compassion and love by providing events and activities focused on the needs of the church and community. This ministry gives women a distinct fellowship for prayer, compassionate service and shared work. The common thread is active service shaped by the church's biblical mission.
Missionary Leadership and Biblical Teaching
Scott Adams is UBC's senior pastor. A former missionary, he served in Haiti for 11 years and in Guyana for 19 years before returning to his childhood church. Rick Autry is the worship leader, a deacon and a Sunday School teacher; he has been a member since 1996. These roles place worship, teaching and leadership within the life of the congregation and connect the church's stated mission with the people who carry it out.
Teaching is a major emphasis. The church maintains an extensive sermon archive that includes a 41-message study of Revelation, with individual messages also available on YouTube. Titles in that study include “Worthy Is the Lamb,” “A Vision Around the Throne of God,” “The Time of War and Famine on Earth,” “The Beginning of the End,” “The 144,000” and “Be Faithful Unto Death.” These messages work through biblical passages and reflect the church's Bible-centered identity. The sermon archive provides a substantial collection of biblical instruction tied to the congregation's emphasis on Scripture.
An Established Rhythm of Worship and Service
Online giving is available as a practical way to support the church's ministry. The broader weekly pattern is straightforward: Sunday School at 10:00 AM and worship at 11:00 AM anchor the first part of the week, while dinner, prayer and youth activities define Wednesday evening. Across those gatherings, Union Baptist Church emphasizes Scripture, prayer, fellowship, missions, evangelism and the equipping of believers for service.
That identity stretches from a church organized by citizens and members of several congregations in 1848 to a present community that gathers children, youth and adults around Scripture, worship, prayer and mission. Union Baptist Church continues its work on Highway 106 in Hull by combining a long institutional history with an active schedule of worship and ministry. Donations can also be made through online giving.
