Welcome to Timberlake Christian Church
Timberlake Christian Church gathers on Lynchburg Highway in Lynchburg, Virginia, where the congregation has lived out its vision of "reflecting the light and love of God in Christ Jesus through welcome, worship, and works" since 1968. Visitors are greeted with the words of Jesus in John 13:35: "By this they will know you are my disciples, that you love one another." As part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Timberlake welcomes all to the Lord's Table as God has welcomed them, an open communion practiced at every service.
Two Sunday Worship Services
Sunday mornings at Timberlake Christian Church usually offer two distinct services. Most Sundays, The Mix, a casual contemporary service, meets at 9:00 am, followed by the Traditional Worship Service at 11:00 am. On the last Sunday of every month, the two congregations join together for one shared service at 10:30 am, drawing the whole church family into a single morning of praise.
Services are livestreamed on YouTube for those who cannot attend in person. The building sits at 20261 Lynchburg Highway and the church can be reached at (434) 525-2167.
Monday Morning Bible Study
Every Monday morning at 10:00 am, the church gathers in the TCC Library for Bible study. Each week the group studies the scriptures that will appear in the following Sunday's worship and sermon, so that what is heard from the pulpit can be examined more deeply in the days that follow. The library, located at the church's address on Lynchburg Highway, has become a steady place for adults who want to read scripture together and prepare for the week of worship ahead.
GriefShare and Walking Through Loss
Beyond Sunday worship, Timberlake Christian Church hosts GriefShare, a Christ-centered support group for anyone navigating the loss of a loved one. The group meets on Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and follows a structured session that includes a short video featuring grief experts and real-life stories, followed by group discussion and practical insights for healing. Free childcare is available for all ages, and a workbook guides participants through each session. Whether the loss is recent or years old, the group offers a welcoming space to share, listen, and find hope.
A Church on Lynchburg Highway Since 1968
Timberlake Christian Church traces its roots to 1968, when Rev. Jack Johnson brought the congregation together. In its earliest days, the church met at Brookville High School before moving to its current property on Lynchburg Highway, where it has served the community for nearly sixty years. The story is plain and direct: a small gathering that grew into a permanent presence at 20261 Lynchburg Highway, grounded in five core values of welcoming, companionship, growth, respect, and caring.
Getting Connected
Visitors who would like to join the church are welcomed in two ways. Those declaring faith in Jesus for the first time are baptized by immersion, while anyone transferring from another church is recognized in their previous baptism. Membership can begin by coming forward during the last song of any worship service or by speaking with Rev. Moore.
Beyond Sunday morning, members and visitors find a range of ways to plug in. The church offers a choir, youth activities, Bible studies, a book club, service opportunities, and prayer groups. Giving is supported through Venmo at @tcc_lynchburg, and the church keeps an active presence on Facebook and Instagram at @tccdoc, along with a YouTube channel for live and recorded worship.
