One Big God, One Big Family, One Big Friend
Marlboro Christian Church sits along Edison Street in the Marlboro Township countryside just outside Alliance, Ohio. The congregation describes its life around a simple refrain: worshiping One Big God, living as One Big Family, and being One Big Friend to its surrounding communities. That phrase has shaped the church's most recent teaching series and frames everything from Sunday worship to local outreach.
Sr. Minister Ed Carter leads the church alongside Children's Director Jamie Evans and Tech Director Alex Yost. Together they shepherd a community that prizes heartfelt worship, Biblical teaching, and the kind of warm, generous people who greet first-time visitors at the door.
Sundays at Marlboro Christian
Two identical-style services meet every Sunday at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM, both available in person and livestreamed online. Music is primarily contemporary, with enough of the church's roots woven in to feel familiar. Preaching is described by the church as relevant, encouraging, and Biblically grounded, presented in a way that is meant to touch both the mind and the heart.
Visitors are told to expect everything from suits and ties to jeans and t-shirts. The atmosphere is relaxed. First-time families are encouraged to arrive five to ten minutes early to register their children; after that, check-in takes about two minutes. A free companion guide is offered to help newcomers follow along.
A Place for Every Child and Student
Marlboro Christian takes its next generation seriously, and three named environments cover every age from infancy through high school.
Toddler Town welcomes children from birth through pre-school. Each Sunday, caring volunteers lead little ones through games, Scripture, Bible stories, prayer, and time with other children, all aimed at introducing them to Jesus.
Kid City is the elementary ministry for kindergarten through fifth grade. It includes a Sunday School hour at 9:00 AM and Junior Church during the 10:30 AM service, where children dig into the stories of the Bible in an age-appropriate setting.
The Vine is the middle and high school program. Students gather for Sunday School during the 10:30 AM service, and Youth Group meets every Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for a fuller program of teaching, fellowship, and fun.
Reignite: Young Adults Doing Life Together
College-aged young adults meet through Reignite, a ministry that gathers weekly in the MCC Summit Room. The group exists for anyone who grew up in the church, walked away from it, or has never been a part of it, with a stated goal of reigniting a love for Christ in that generation. Members study the Bible together, share life together, and serve together. Updates come through a FlockNote group, and Alex Yost serves as a key contact.
Men's and Women's Ministries
The church runs active ministries for both men and women. Men's Ministry has held retreats at Elkhorn Valley Camp and meets throughout the year for Bible study and fellowship. Women's Ministry gathers for seasonal events such as bonfires, the fall Aspire event, and focused Bible studies. A recent five-week study on Deborah, titled Warrior Women, met on Monday evenings. The ministry also plans relaxed evenings of fellowship, often at a member's home, where a lawn chair and a willingness to show up are the only requirements.
Marriage and Family Resources
Two ongoing teaching series shape the church's discipleship for adults. We Are Family is a multi-week series that walks through what it means to live as a spiritual family under Christ. Marriage 101 is a four-session online series covering foundations for a strong marriage, available to anyone in the congregation. A companion guide PDF can be downloaded for group study.
Everyday Disciples and RightNow Media
Beyond the sermon series, a teaching track called Everyday Disciples helps believers live out their faith Monday through Saturday. For at-home study, Marlboro Christian offers the congregation unlimited access to RightNow Media, a streaming library of more than 20,000 video Bible study resources that can be used for personal devotion or group study. Many of the series include free downloadable discussion guides.
Operation Christmas Child and Local Outreach
Each fall the church mobilizes around Operation Christmas Child, collecting and packing shoebox gifts for children around the world. Recent goals have targeted around 300 boxes, with several prep evenings scheduled to assemble them. The church also maintains a Need Request ministry: anyone in the community with a practical need can call the church office or email, and the staff will follow up personally.
What the Church Believes
Marlboro Christian holds to historic Christian orthodoxy. The congregation confesses belief in the Triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and affirms that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, born of the virgin Mary, crucified under Pontius Pilate, buried, and raised bodily on the third day. He ascended into heaven and will return to judge the living and the dead. The Holy Spirit is described as active in the life of the church and indwelling every Christian.
The Bible is received as God's inspired Word, without error in its original writings, and as the final authority for all matters of faith and practice. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith in Christ, with repentance, confession, and baptism by immersion as the biblical response. The church teaches that the universal Church was founded at the Day of Pentecost and that local congregations are overseen by elders.
The church's mission statement is to make disciples who make disciples who make disciples. Its values - worship, relationships, prayer, generosity, relevance, integrity, and faith - are anchored in passages such as Matthew 22:37-38, John 13:34-35, Philippians 4:6-7, 2 Corinthians 9:7, and Proverbs 3:5-6.
Joining the Life of the Church
Giving is handled online through a secure portal, with funds supporting both the local work of the church and partner organizations around the world. Updates and event sign-ups run through FlockNote and the Church Center app. Marlboro Christian welcomes everyone who walks through its doors to come as they are and discover what it means to be part of a community worshiping one big God, living as one big family, and being one big friend to the neighborhoods just beyond its parking lot.
