A Church on Airline Drive
Airline Drive Church of Christ sits along a busy stretch of Airline Drive in Bossier City, Louisiana, the congregation's home since long before the current members can remember. The church's mission, drawn straight from Jesus' words, is simple: Love God. Love others. Serve all. Its vision is to see the people of northwest Louisiana transformed by the Gospel of Christ. Everything the church does is rooted in that vision, and the leaders describe Airline as a place where there is always room for one more at the table.
Sunday Mornings at Airline
Worship and study shape the rhythm of a Sunday at Airline Drive. Bible classes meet across the campus at 9 a.m., giving every age group a place to dig into Scripture together. The main worship gathering convenes at 10 a.m. and follows a familiar pattern: an a cappella worship team leads the church family in a range of praise songs, an encouraging message is preached by Pastor Ben Brewster, and a time of communion follows.
Visitors will find a warm welcome waiting for them. The main entrance on Airline Drive leads to the main foyer, where a team of greeters directs guests either to the 10 a.m. service or to a 9 a.m. class that suits their interests. The congregation is made up of people from all walks of life, and the dress code is intentionally relaxed. Some wear their Sunday best; others wear jeans. The only expectation is that guests come as they are.
What Airline Believes
The congregation teaches that the Bible is the inspired word of God and the source for Christian belief and living. They affirm one eternal God who exists in three co-equal Persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - and they confess that Jesus lived fully human and fully divine, died for the weight of sin, and was resurrected to give the hope of eternal life. The Holy Spirit is described as a guide who helps Christians discern truth and grow into the image of Christ.
Salvation, in Airline's teaching, cannot be earned by good works but is received by God's grace through faith in the Gospel. The Gospel message calls believers to turn from sin, confess Jesus as the Son of God, and be baptized. Baptism by immersion is understood as a symbol of Christ's death, burial and resurrection, and as the moment when a believer receives the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The church is described as the body of Christ, with Jesus as its head, called to worship together, use the spiritual gifts given to each person, maintain unity and encourage one another. The congregation also teaches that God created two complementary genders and ordained marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
Airline Kids: Birth through Fifth Grade
Children's ministry at Airline is built around three goals: learn from the Bible, serve with joy, and share what they have learned with others. Children from nursery through fifth grade meet for weekly Bible classes from 9 to 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings and then join the adults for Kid's Worship during the main service. Every week, the children also participate in a Kids' Collection, a chance to experience the joy of giving back to the community.
Dona Crawford, the Children and Youth Director, stepped into leading the children's ministry in February 2023 after more than two decades of serving Airline alongside her husband, Carl. She sees children as the Church's future and is committed to laying a firm foundation for their faith as they grow.
Airline Students: Middle and High School
The student ministry welcomes sixth through twelfth graders with a mission to grow a community of teens on fire for Christ. Airline Students meet on Sunday mornings before the main worship service for worship, Bible study and community. At the time of writing, the students are working through a project of reading the entire Bible together. Sunday nights add a lighter touch: from 5 to 7 p.m., students gather for food, games, fellowship and prayer.
Men's and Women's Ministries
Adult ministries at Airline run on a steady weekly and monthly rhythm. Men's ministry gathers twice a week. On Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m., men of all ages meet for a weekly breakfast at the Denny's on Old Minden Road for encouragement and community. On the second Saturday of each month at 8 a.m., the men come together on site for a Prayer Breakfast of prayer, encouragement and a shared meal.
Women's ministry centers on a Tuesday morning Ladies' Class at 10 a.m. at the church building, a weekly Bible study for women of all ages. Once a month on a Saturday morning, women gather again for a Prayer Brunch. The congregation also meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 a.m. in the chapel for First Mondays, a guided prayer gathering open to the whole church family.
LifeGroups Across the Congregation
For those wanting something smaller than the Sunday gatherings, LifeGroups are small group settings for adults of all ages to do life together and grow in their faith. Groups meet across the area and welcome new participants at any time.
Loving the Neighborhood in Northwest Louisiana
Outreach is described as a joyful priority at Airline. The church supports Bossier KIDS, an effort that serves Christian foster families by providing resources and support to share the love of Christ with children in their homes. A clothing closet accepts gently used clothing of all sizes and styles so that individuals and families can shop for items they need. Shared Blessings is the church's contribution fund, used to meet practical needs in the local community. Office hours run Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and giving is available online through the church's giving page.
The Pastor and the Preaching
Ben Brewster has served as the preaching minister at Airline for more than twenty years, preaching, teaching and offering pastoral care to the congregation. He holds degrees from Ohio Valley University, Oklahoma Christian University, and Cincinnati Christian University, and in 2006 his book Torn Asunder: The Civil War and the 1906 Division of the Disciples was published by College Press Publishing Company. He and his wife Mendy are the parents of Hannah, Drew and Angela, father-in-law to Zach, and grandparents to Charlotte and Isaac.
Worship, Streaming and the Week Ahead
Each Sunday at 10 a.m. the church family gathers for a cappella praise, preaching and communion. Those who cannot be present can watch services on the church's YouTube channel, and guests planning a first visit can find practical information on the visit page. Office staff are available Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the phone rings at (318) 746-2645. The address, 2125 Airline Drive, is the same one the church has called home for years - a steady place on a busy road where the people of northwest Louisiana continue to learn, serve and worship together.
