Stevens Creek Church: A Six-Campus Church of God in Augusta

Pentecostal Church in Martinez, Georgia

Stevens Creek Church is a Church of God congregation founded in 1987 by Dr. Marty Baker, now gathering more than 3,000 people across six campuses in the Augusta region and the Central Savannah River Area.

About Stevens Creek Community Church

Stevens Creek Church has grown into one of the larger congregations in the Augusta, Georgia region and the broader Central Savannah River Area, with more than 3,000 people gathering on Sundays across six campuses. The church is anchored at 600 Stevens Creek Road on the north side of Augusta, with additional locations stretching from Grovetown and South Augusta in Georgia across the Savannah River into North Augusta, South Carolina, and east to the small community of Wrens in Jefferson County. Rooted in a Pentecostal heritage and committed to a clear three-part vision - Love God, Love People, Serve the World - Stevens Creek is a Church of God congregation known for passionate worship, family-focused ministry, and a sweeping outreach effort centered on the Augusta Dream Center.

Six Campuses Across the CSRA

The flagship Augusta Campus sits at 600 Stevens Creek Road and offers three Sunday worship services at 9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 12:00 p.m. The Grovetown Campus, located at 5050 High Meadows Drive in Grovetown, holds two Sunday services at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The South Augusta Campus meets at 3358 Peach Orchard Road at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays. Across the Savannah River, the North Augusta Campus meets at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays at Fox Creek High School, 165 Shortcut Road, in North Augusta, South Carolina. In Jefferson County, the Wrens Campus gathers at 112 Broad Street in Wrens for two Sunday services at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Each of those five campuses is home to a full children's ministry called Creek Kids and a Wednesday night student ministry.

A sixth site, the Augusta Dream Center at 3364 Peach Orchard Road, is the church's outreach hub and also meets on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. for what the staff calls the Sunday Experience - a more intimate gathering geared toward the neighborhood it serves. All campuses share the same teaching, and the same live worship band often rotates between locations.

Sundays at Stevens Creek

Services across the campuses are contemporary in feel, with full bands leading worship and preaching drawn straight from the Bible. The church describes its Sunday services as gatherings designed to help people encounter God through inspiring worship and challenging teaching, with a place for everyone from first-time guests to lifelong believers. Communion is observed regularly, and baptism is offered as a public next step for anyone who has made a decision to follow Christ.

Casual dress is the norm, and guests are welcomed the same way members are - with a coffee, a smile, and an invitation to come back. The church's own framing is simple: "We're a church where everyone's welcome, nobody's perfect, and anything is possible with God." Services are livestreamed on YouTube, and recent sermon series are archived online so anyone who missed a Sunday can catch up. The current archive has included series on prayer, hearing from God, the basics of faith, and perseverance through hard seasons.

For families, the Sunday experience at the larger campuses is structured so parents can drop children off at Creek Kids before the service begins. Nursery care is provided for infants and toddlers, and a security tag system ensures every child is matched with the adult picking them up.

Creek Kids: Six Weeks Through Fifth Grade

Creek Kids is the children's ministry that partners with families to teach God's truth to children from six weeks old through fifth grade. The ministry is built on the conviction that the Bible should reach a child's heart, choices, and everyday life. Programs are organized by age so every child hears teaching at their level.

  • Nursery (six weeks to two years): Volunteers share God's love with smiles, snuggles, rocking, and play. As little ones start to crawl and explore, the team meets them right where they are and gives them their first introduction to how special God's love is.
  • Preschool (three years through kindergarten): Children experience Bible stories, interactive worship songs, hands-on activities, and crafts that reinforce the main idea of the day, along with meaningful group playtime.
  • Elementary (first through fifth grade): High-energy worship and dynamic Bible teaching lead into age-specific small groups that help kids apply the lesson in their everyday lives. Trained volunteers walk alongside each child to help them grow in confidence and discover a relationship with Jesus.

Within Creek Kids, the Special Friends Ministry supports families who have children with unique abilities. Through a parent information form and individualized support tools, the team creates an environment where children of all abilities can safely participate and grow. The ministry welcomes anyone from six weeks through fifth grade, and families are encouraged to stop by the Creek Kids Check-In desk or contact the team to learn more.

Creek Kids also offers printable family resources, including a prayer booklet and an "I Have Decided" booklet designed for families making a faith commitment at home. Elementary ministry is led by Robert Houston, while Kaitlynn Lehman oversees Creek Kids as a whole.

Students and United Nights

Stevens Creek Students is the middle school and high school ministry, with a regular Wednesday night gathering at every campus from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The nights include games, worship, teaching, and small group time. Each campus has its own student ministry, and students can text "Students" to 706-222-7505 to stay in the loop or follow the student ministry on Instagram at @stevenscreekstudents.

Once a month, all the campuses come together for United Night, held at the Augusta Campus on the first Wednesday of the month. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the service begins at 7:00 p.m. United Nights bring students from every campus together for worship, teaching, and an after-party that often includes pickleball, volleyball, food, and other activities. Bus transportation is available from the Grovetown and South Augusta campuses, leaving at 6:10 p.m. and returning at 9:00 p.m.

In the summer, Stevens Creek Students heads to Legacy Retreat Center in Homer, Georgia, for Student Summer Camp, a week for students who have completed sixth through twelfth grades. The Student Ministry is led by Ashton Sturgell, who serves as Student and Young Adults Pastor. Parker Taylor serves as Grovetown Student Director.

Stevens Creek Young Adults

Young adults ages 18 to 30 have a ministry of their own called Stevens Creek Young Adults (SCYA). The ministry exists to give college students, grad students, post-grads, singles, and married young adults a place to grow in the three values of the church - Love God, Love People, Serve the World. The ministry is grounded in John 17 and Psalm 133, with a focus on standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, striving side by side for the faith of the gospel.

SCYA gathers on the Third Thursday of each month at the Augusta Campus, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and a service beginning at 7:00 p.m. The night includes fellowship, teaching, worship, and communion. Childcare is available with registration.

During the rest of the month, the Young Adults Bible Study meets on Tuesday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Trellis Coffee Bar, 1902 Walton Way in Augusta. The group gathers for community and to study the life of Jesus through the Gospels, with a break on Third Thursday when everyone meets at the Augusta Campus instead. Young adult small groups also meet throughout the week for additional community, giving everyone from college freshmen to young married couples a regular place to belong.

Next Step, Small Groups, and Getting Connected

The best way to plug in at Stevens Creek is through the Next Step Class, held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month at all campuses. The class introduces newcomers to the mission and beliefs of the church and walks them toward membership, volunteering, and small group involvement. At the Augusta Campus, the class meets during the 10:30 a.m. service. At the Grovetown, South Augusta, and Wrens campuses, the class meets after the 10:30 a.m. service. At the North Augusta Campus, the class meets after the 10:30 a.m. service on fourth Sundays only. Classes meet in the Conference Center. Chandler Canady serves as Next Step Pastor and walks each group through what the church believes, how the church operates, and how newcomers can find their fit.

Small groups launch three times a year - in spring, summer, and fall - and meet throughout the week at various times and locations across the CSRA. Groups are organized around shared interests, life stages, and specific topics, with options for everyone from young adults to grandparents. Most groups remain open to new members during the semester, and the groups are open to anyone in the community, not just Stevens Creek attendees. Small group leader and host trainings are offered for anyone interested in starting or leading a group.

Baptism is available as a public next step for anyone who has accepted Christ as their Savior, and Child Dedication services are offered for families wanting to partner with the church as they raise their child to know, love, and serve the Lord.

Beliefs and the Church of God Heritage

Stevens Creek Church is a Church of God congregation, sharing its mission and beliefs with the broader Cleveland, Tennessee-based denomination. Four core beliefs define the church's teaching and are explained in depth in a Next Step Class:

  1. The Bible is the Word of God - inerrant, complete, inspired, and unchanging. The Bible is both a guidebook for practical living and the spiritual communication from God that provides strength. The church reads through the entire Bible each year as a congregation using the One Year Bible.
  2. Jesus is the Son of God - born of a virgin, crucified for the forgiveness of humanity's sins, raised from the dead three days later, and both fully man and fully God. While He was a prophet, teacher, and good man, He is also the supernatural Son of God. He is the only way to access forgiveness and eternal life.
  3. A decision to follow Jesus changes everything - every person is born into sin, and forgiveness and the new birth come through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. Every person can be forgiven and born again.
  4. Believers can and should be filled with the Holy Spirit - the third member of the Trinity, who provides power to live focused on Jesus. Lives filled with the Holy Spirit are evidenced by both the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit found in scripture.

Alongside these four points, Stevens Creek affirms the Church of God's Declaration of Faith. That declaration includes belief in one God eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; that Jesus was crucified, buried, raised from the dead, and ascended to heaven to intercede at the Father's right hand; that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; that repentance is commanded and necessary for forgiveness; that justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ; in sanctification subsequent to the new birth through faith, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; that holiness is God's standard of living for His people; in the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart, with speaking in other tongues as the initial evidence; in water baptism by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that divine healing is provided for all in the atonement; in the Lord's Supper and washing of the saints' feet; and in the premillennial second coming of Jesus, first to resurrect the righteous dead and catch away the living saints, and then to reign on the earth a thousand years. The bodily resurrection brings eternal life for the righteous and eternal punishment for the wicked.

The Augusta Dream Center and Local Outreach

The heart of Stevens Creek's local outreach is the Augusta Dream Center, a faith-based nonprofit adjacent to the South Augusta Campus at 3364 Peach Orchard Road. The Dream Center is led by Dream Center Director Kellie Newman and runs a food pantry that has provided groceries to more than 21,000 individuals, 7,500 of them children. The center also offers on-site medical support through partnerships with local healthcare professionals, providing both physical and emotional care to those who need it most.

Each month, outreach teams serve under-resourced neighborhoods through the Adopt-a-Block program, which distributes food and clothing, assists with neighborhood clean-up, spends time with local children, and connects personally with families in need. The Dream Center serves as a hub during the annual Stock the Shelves food drive, when canned goods are collected at every campus each fall to keep the pantry stocked through the holidays.

Beyond food and clothing, the church offers several support ministries that meet throughout the year. GriefShare and DivorceCare provide 13-week, video-based support groups for those grieving the loss of a loved one or processing the pain of separation or divorce, with a special Surviving the Holidays gathering each November for those navigating the season while in recovery. A Recovery Workshop is offered for individuals, couples, and families impacted by substance or process addiction, and the annual Run for Hope 5K at the Dream Center raises money to provide meals for neighbors in need.

Reaching Beyond Augusta: Global Missions

The Missions Department exists to help people take their next step in serving the world through giving, going, and praying. Rooted in Acts 1:8, the department influences future generations to step into the mission of God in their own Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria. The department's approach is built around three values:

  • Giving: Every dollar donated goes to support strategic global partnerships, with giving available online through SecureGive.
  • Going: Short-term mission trips are organized regularly, sending teams across the United States and around the world.
  • Partnering: Not everyone is called to travel, but everyone can pray for the church's partners locally and globally.

Stevens Creek's strategic global partnerships include 28 Bold, Josh and Jessica Hanson in San Lucas, Guatemala, Ben and Jessica Salmon in Jamaica, Coleman Bailey, Jonny Moore, City of Refuge - MOST, House of Cherith, Justified by Faith Prison Ministry, Convoy of Hope, FIRM Israel, and the South Carolina Church of God Home for Children. A Sponsor a Child program is also available for those wanting to support children through ongoing financial commitment.

Each year, the church also hosts a Ladies Conference and a Ladies Christmas Party for women high school age and older, and a Men's Night for men high school age and older. The annual Marriage Night brings couples together for expert teaching on marriage, while a Parenting Workshop offers encouragement and equipping for moms and dads.

Meet the Lead Pastor and Staff

Stevens Creek Church was founded in 1987 by Dr. Marty Baker, who began holding services in a borrowed living room. Under his leadership, the church has grown into a congregation of more than 3,000 people across six campuses. A South Carolina native reared in Abbeville, Baker holds a master's degree from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and a doctorate from Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, South Carolina. He serves on the Board of Directors of Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, and on the State Council for the North Georgia Church of God. He and his wife Patty are also the founders of SecureGive, which introduced the world's first Giving Kiosk and now resources churches worldwide with financial giving tools. They have three grown children - Stuart, Sarah, and Samuel - along with son-in-law Drew and grandchildren Summit, Forrest, Sheppard, and Magnolia Love.

The Executive Team alongside Pastor Marty includes Todd Sturgell, Executive Pastor of Experience and Campuses; Sarah Landrum, Executive Pastor of Operations and Finance; and John Tyler Black, Executive Pastor of Ministries.

Campus pastors lead each location: Steve Saccone at Grovetown, Will Riddle at North Augusta, Cody Smith at South Augusta, and Russ Tollison at Wrens. The worship teams across the campuses are led by Jordan Narkates at Grovetown and Brandon Neal at South Augusta, with Beth Huie leading worship at North Augusta, Brett Dickey at Wrens, and Garrison Holdman rounding out the worship staff. Outreach is led by Tessa Wilson, and small groups are supported by Harrison Rucker.

The Heart: Love God, Love People, Serve the World

At its core, Stevens Creek Church keeps things simple. Three values shape everything the church does: Love God, Love People, and Serve the World. Sunday gatherings are designed to help people encounter God. Small groups are designed to put people into meaningful community where they are supported, cared for, and made better. Outreach through the Dream Center and global missions is designed to extend that love beyond the church walls, both locally and around the world.

Generosity is another deeply held value. The church teaches that generosity is a mark of discipleship, quoting Proverbs 11:25: "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." Giving is available online through SecureGive, and the church notes that "You do the possible and let God do the impossible." That generosity also overflows beyond the offering plate: every Christmas the Giving Tree collects around 5,000 gifts for nearly 500 families through the Grovetown, South Augusta, and Wrens campuses, and during Love Week each spring the church takes on daily acts of service - paying for the order behind someone in a drive-through, packing care boxes for the Children's Hospital of Georgia, putting together homeless supply bags, and taking up special offerings for the missions department.

From a borrowed living room in 1987 to six campuses spread across two states, Stevens Creek Church continues to grow into its name as a regional church family rooted in the CSRA. Whether someone comes for a Sunday service, a Wednesday night with their students, a Tuesday night Bible study at Trellis Coffee Bar, or a Saturday morning serving through the Dream Center, there is a place and a next step waiting at the Creek.
