St. Andrew's Episcopal Church sits on South 84th Street in midtown Omaha, just south of the slow curve that runs from the Old Market toward the Hillside neighborhoods. The parish has shaped itself around a five-word rhythm - Worshipping, Loving, Welcoming, Including, Supporting - and a tagline that hangs beneath the church's name: A Place of Worship, Love, and Healing.
A Weekend Built Around Four Services
Worship at St. Andrew's is offered on Saturday evening and three Sunday mornings, each with its own feel. The 5:00 PM Saturday Rite II Eucharist is held in the Chapel, a quieter complement to the Sunday schedule. On Sunday morning, the 7:45 AM Rite I is also celebrated in the Chapel, without music. At 9:00 AM the congregation moves into the main church for a Rite II service led by contemporary music, and at 10:30 AM a Rite II liturgy with a traditional choir follows. The 9:00 and 10:30 services are livestreamed on the church's Facebook page so members who are traveling or homebound can follow along. A 9:30 AM Rite II Eucharist with Prayers for Healing is celebrated each Monday in the Chapel.
Music at the Center
St. Andrew's treats music as a central ministry, not decoration. The Chancel Choir sings weekly, a Bell Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings, and the parish hosts the Back to Bach chamber concert series on Sunday afternoons. Summer brings a Music Camp open to anyone who wants to sing or play, and a series of free Music Jam Concerts on Saturday evenings draw families and neighbors from across the area.
Formation for Every Age
Children meet in Sunday School and Youth Sunday School at 10:15 AM each Sunday, with grade-level learning goals published for preschool through twelfth grade. The Youth Group also gathers at 10:15 AM and is paired with Adult Formation on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM. Episcopal 101, offered in the summer, walks newcomers through the Bible, church history, the Episcopal tradition, and the parish itself, leading into the Confirmation class. Sunday mornings include a Coffee and Conversation time that often serves as the informal bridge between services.
Fellowship and Small Communities
Like many Episcopal congregations, St. Andrew's life runs on lay-led groups. Episcopal Church Women (ECW) hosts dinners, a board meeting, and service projects. A Men's Group meets on Saturday mornings, and the Arts and Crafts Fellowship keeps a regular workshop schedule that produces the yearly Arts and Crafts Faire. The Daughters of the King chapter prays and serves quietly behind the scenes. Community Groups give members a smaller circle for Bible study, book club, and shared meals.
Outreach and the Nearly New Shop
Outreach is anchored by the Nearly New Shop, the parish's thrift store, which is open several days a week (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings) and supports local, national, and international mission partners the parish names: St. Monica's Home, Sew Powerful, Episcopal Church Women, and the Parents of Suicides Together community. The Arts and Crafts Faire raises additional funds for mission. Online giving is available through the church's Vanco giving portal, and PayPal or Venmo are also options.
Sensory-Friendly Worship and Pastoral Care
A monthly Sensory-Friendly Worship service, led in partnership with the parish's All God's Children ministry, is held on Sundays at 1:00 PM for individuals and families who find the standard liturgy overwhelming. Pastoral Care extends through a clergy request form, a prayer-request page, weekday Morning Prayer on Zoom at 8:00 AM, a Grief Support Group, and a long list of simple prayers written for ordinary moments. Fr. Keith, the parish priest, stays connected through regular Notes and pastoral messages.
Faith in the Episcopal Tradition
Worship at St. Andrew's follows the Book of Common Prayer. The parish belongs to the Diocese of Nebraska and to the broader Episcopal Church, and it teaches the Way of Love as a framework for Christian life. Beliefs are rooted in the historic creeds (Apostles' and Nicene), and the seven sacraments are recognized, with Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Marriage, and Funerals all available through the parish, each with its own preparation materials and contacts.
