South Park Baptist Church stands at 401 W. Warrior Trail in Grand Prairie, beside South Grand Prairie High School and Jackson Middle School. The Southern Baptist congregation has built its identity around grace: biblical teaching, dynamic worship that includes hymns and praise songs, warm hospitality, and service extending beyond the church family. Its mission statement, 'Showing Grace, Sharing Christ, Building Believers,' captures a desire to help people understand God's unmerited favor, experience His power, and grow as disciples.
A Grace-Centered Community on Warrior Trail
Together, South Park's people are a community of believers who grow closer to God and one another through fellowship. Fellowship here extends beyond casual social interaction. It includes spiritual unity, active cooperation in worship and service, and a shared commitment to living out the truths of Scripture. Relationships, the Word of God, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit are central.
The mission is to make God's grace understood and extended to every person met inside and outside the church family. South Park defines grace as God's unmerited favor and kindness, His willingness to forgive and bless people despite their shortcomings. That grace is demonstrated by trying to meet physical, practical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs. The vision is to be a church without walls, following Jesus' call to go beyond those walls to reach the lost and broken.
Lead Pastor Randy Capote has served at South Park since March 2001. He earned a bachelor's degree from Dallas Baptist University and a master's from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Before returning to the Metroplex, he pastored two churches in the New Orleans area. His ministry includes leading the local congregation and supporting mission endeavors around the world. South Park is part of the Southern Baptist Convention, supports the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, works with the North Texas Baptist Association, and joins with the Dallas Baptist Association for local missions.
Sunday at 9:30 and 10:45
The Sunday rhythm begins with Bible study for all ages at 9:30 AM. At 10:45 AM, the congregation gathers for worship, with the morning service ending at noon.
- 9:30 AM: Bible study for adults, children, and students in age-appropriate gatherings.
- 10:45 AM to noon: Morning worship in person and through a livestream on South Park's Facebook account.
The 9:30 gathering spans the church. Kingdom Kidz children enter their classes, while middle and high school students meet in the upstairs student area. Adults also study the Bible during this hour. At 10:45, families come together for worship before children and students are released to their age-directed ministries or return to sit with the congregation.
The sermon archive includes messages dating to 2020, with many entries offering an audio or video message. Subjects across the archive include grace, faith, community, Scripture, worship, family, spiritual gifts, missions, and the Christian life.
A Relaxed First Sunday on Warrior Trail
South Park's address is easy to place: 401 W. Warrior Trail, next to South Grand Prairie High School and Jackson Middle School. Parking is directly behind the church buildings. Visitors who submit the Plan Your Visit form can have a parking space reserved for their arrival.
The atmosphere is explicitly casual. Dress ranges from jeans to business casual, with an occasional coat and tie. Staff and volunteers warmly welcome visitors, and the congregation describes its goal as helping people feel loved, known, and at home without requiring a particular style of dress.
A typical service begins with singing hymns and praise songs. It continues into prayer and then the pastor's message from the Bible. At the conclusion of the message, people may come to the altar at the front to pray or speak with the pastor. Pastor Randy is also available immediately after the service in the foyer. This invitation to prayer is woven into the regular worship rhythm rather than treated as a separate program.
Those interested in becoming members may contact Pastor Randy or come forward during the decision time at the close of worship. The church office can be reached at 972-262-2641.
Midweek Bible Study and Prayer
Wednesday evening begins at 6:00 PM with the church's weekly Bible study and prayer gathering. Students have a dedicated 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM gathering in the upstairs Student Center. The regular Wednesday rhythm therefore includes both congregational Bible study and specialized student ministry on the same evening.
Worship Meant to Magnify Christ
Worship Leader Peka Lalpekhlua K. leads a ministry devoted to powerful praise and intimate worship. Originally from India, Peka believes people should worship with a sincere heart, in Spirit and in Truth, and give God all the glory. The worship team's goal is to magnify Christ through the creative talents of the congregation.
Its members see themselves as worship leaders and ministers rather than performers. They do not seek to draw attention to themselves; instead, they aim to direct people toward God with authentic worship. The ministry values excellence, joy, reverence, a clean heart, and a sincere desire to offer praise worthy of God.
The practical result is a blended Sunday worship rhythm. Hymns and praise songs both have a place in services that are described as dynamic and biblically grounded. There are many ways to serve within the worship ministry, including areas that do not require previous experience. Those who show a willingness to serve and learn can receive training for parts of the ministry.
Kingdom Kidz from Babies Through Third Grade
South Park provides age-specific children's ministries from infancy through age 12. The church emphasizes a safe environment in which children can learn about Jesus, understand God's character and love, and consider how faith belongs in everyday life.
Nursery care is provided for babies up to age two by a team of dedicated church members. Kingdom Kidz Sunday School meets from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM for children age three and older. Lessons are designed both to challenge children with biblical truth and to help them put that truth into practice during the rest of their lives.
Kingdom Kidz Worship serves kindergarten through third grade. Children begin in the main worship center with their parents, then are dismissed before the preaching time for special, age-directed learning. This arrangement lets families enter worship together while giving younger children a lesson built for their needs.
A Place for Middle and High School Students
Middle and high school students have their own space upstairs in the education building. They meet for Bible study at 9:30 AM on Sunday, join the congregation for the 10:45 AM worship service, and return to the Student Center from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesdays.
Calling, Community, and Commission
Student Ministry follows a threefold purpose. The calling emphasizes Scripture, models, and mentors that can help young people address their spiritual development. The community seeks to create a place where students feel loved, accepted, noticed, and free from the pressure to face difficult questions alone. The commission centers on Matthew 28, where Jesus calls His followers to make disciples, teach His commands, and carry that mission beyond the church walls.
The student model intentionally combines biblical teaching with relationships and mentoring. South Park describes its goal as both encouraging students and challenging their thinking with a Christian worldview. Bailey Atchley leads the weekly student gatherings.
Women's Fellowship and The MomCo
South Park Women's Ministry is built around unity. Its members include homemakers, career-oriented women, wives, widows, parents, grandparents, quilters, crafters, and others who want to share life together. The ministry provides a safe place for women to speak, support one another, and share both joys and sorrows.
Its yearly life includes Bible study, conferences, retreats, and a craft day. These gatherings are designed to create connection and spiritual growth rather than treating women's fellowship as a single meeting or activity.
The MomCo, formerly known as MOPS, welcomes mothers of children from infancy through high school. It meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the church. Childcare is provided for babies and preschoolers, and mothers do not need to be members of South Park to participate. The group's purpose is to encourage mothers, share the parenting journey, develop new friendships, and help mothers draw on their individual gifts and passions.
Jesus Men, Ladies Bible, and GriefShare
Jesus Men
Jesus Men is a monthly men's ministry that gathers for food, activities, and time in God's Word. Its emphasis is friendly, active fellowship centered on Scripture and spiritual challenge.
Ladies Bible
Ladies Bible meets every Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The gathering combines Bible reading and teaching with conversation, prayer, and the opportunity to learn alongside other women.
GriefShare
GriefShare is a 13-week seminar and support group for people rebuilding their lives after the death of a loved one. It meets weekly on Sunday evenings from 5:15 PM to 7:15 PM. The group is open to anyone, and participants may join at any point. It has no cost, although childcare is not provided. Leaders are people who have experienced grief themselves and want to accompany others through difficult days and the rebuilding process.
A Church Without Walls
South Park's vision is to be a church without walls. Jesus calls His people to go outside the walls, seek the lost, and reach those who are broken. By 'lost,' the church understands spiritual disconnection from God, people who have strayed from His path, and people who need redemption.
This outward vision shapes the effort to extend grace through practical care as well as proclamation. The church seeks to address physical, practical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs because each person is made in God's image and has worth beyond what circumstances may suggest.
Operation Christmas Child is one recurring expression of this mission. South Park encourages families and groups to pack shoeboxes for children and provides the boxes and mailing labels. Contributions can help cover the cost of the Gospel material and shipping. The emphasis is both on meeting a child's practical needs and on bringing the Gospel to children and their families.
Mission Partnerships Close to Home
The Pregnancy Resource Center of Grand Prairie has a long connection with South Park. The church helped see the ministry get started and continues to support it through monthly financial giving, its annual banquet, and other fundraising efforts. Women at South Park also partner with young mothers who are navigating pregnancy without support, and the church works with the center to reach students in local schools.
Life Tree Adoption Agency is another supported ministry. South Park encourages the agency's role of offering guidance, encouragement, and support to people involved in adoption.
South Park also supports Grand Prairie United Charities. The organization partners with the community by providing food security and emergency financial assistance to low-income families. Its assistance includes utility help, rental or mortgage and shelter support, information, and referrals for families, older adults, and people experiencing homelessness. South Park's support of Grand Prairie United Charities places the church alongside a broader network of care addressing basic, unmet needs.
Mission outreach also connects with Tzedakah Ministries, which works to equip local churches to reach Jewish people. Together with the Pregnancy Resource Center, Life Tree Adoption Agency, Grand Prairie United Charities, Operation Christmas Child, and mission endeavors around the world, these partnerships give concrete form to the church's aim of extending grace beyond its own walls.
Scripture, Grace, and Redemption
The Authority of Scripture and the Godhead
South Park holds the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings and the supreme and final authority in doctrine and practice. It believes in one God eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three equal persons with the same nature and attributes but distinct in office and activity.
Jesus Christ is affirmed as the eternal Son of God who became human, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and was born of the Virgin Mary. His death on the cross is described as a substitutionary sacrifice for sinners, and His literal physical resurrection guarantees redemption and salvation. He is now in heaven at God's right hand, exalted as High Priest and fulfilling the ministry of intercession and advocacy.
The Holy Spirit is a person who restrains evil, convicts people concerning sin, regenerates those who receive Christ, baptizes them into the church, indwells and seals believers, bestows spiritual gifts, and fills those who are yielded to Him. The church regards speaking in tongues and miraculous healing as authenticating signs given to the early church and therefore temporary, while affirming that God answers prayer for the sick according to His will.
Salvation and Sanctification
All things in heaven and earth are created by God and exist through His power. Humanity was created innocent in God's image and likeness, but sin brought physical and spiritual death. Because people are alienated from God and need salvation, redemption is God's gift, received through personal faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sin. Justification is by grace through faith apart from works, and true believers are kept secure in Christ.
Sanctification is described as positional, progressive, and ultimate. The believer is already set apart in Christ, grows in grace through the power of the Holy Spirit, and will be fully conformed to Christ. This growth is not presented as license to sin but as a lifelong movement toward likeness to God.
The Church and Its Ordinances
The church is understood as the body and bride of Christ, beginning at Pentecost and made up of born-again people. The local church is an assembly of professed believers voluntarily joined in one place for worship, Bible study, observance of the ordinances, Christian fellowship, and preparation for service.
Water baptism and the Lord's Supper are observed as ordinances until Christ returns. Baptism is by immersion and publicly identifies a believer with the Savior. Infants of believing parents may be dedicated to the Lord but are not baptized. The Lord's Supper is a memorial of Christ's death, using symbols of His body and blood, and participation is to be preceded by solemn self-examination.
Christ's Return and Eternity
South Park believes in the personal and imminent coming of Christ for the church, followed by a tribulation on earth and a return that establishes His millennial kingdom. At death, the souls of believers pass into Christ's presence in conscious bliss until the resurrection. The souls of unbelievers remain in Hades until the final judgment, after which they will experience everlasting separation from God.
Preaching Archives and Faithful Stewardship
The sermon archive preserves messages from 2020 onward, including biblical expositions, personal illustrations, and messages on worship, grace, family, community, spiritual growth, and the mission of the church. These messages reflect the same Scripture-centered emphasis found in the church's stated beliefs.
Giving is also available online. South Park connects tithes, offerings, and other gifts to the health of the church, its ministry, and its outreach. Its stewardship teaching emphasizes faithful administration, ethical business practices, and accountability to church leadership and the denomination. The underlying principle is that giving is an act of worship and that the church remains responsible for the resources entrusted to it.
Service is not confined to a single group. Adults can participate through worship, children's ministry, student ministry, Women's Ministry, The MomCo, Jesus Men, Ladies Bible, GriefShare, missions, and other areas of church service. Each Christian is encouraged to identify the ministry to which God calls them.
At its center, South Park Baptist Church remains a community of believers seeking to grow closer to God and one another. Its identity is found in showing grace, sharing Christ, building believers, and carrying that mission from Warrior Trail into the life of Grand Prairie and beyond.
