Shadle Park Presbyterian Church on N. Alberta Street in Spokane is a neighborhood congregation centered on Sunday worship, a Tuesday dinner and youth gathering, and direct food support for neighbors. Its motto is Love Jesus | Serve Others | Care for Creation.
Rooted in Spokane Since 1947
The congregation has met since 1947. It is rooted in the love of God and nourished by the enlivening presence of the Holy Spirit. It understands worship as a way of living, not only an hour together on Sunday morning. The church affirms the welcome and giftedness of all people, remains committed to God's Word, and acknowledges its need for dependence on God's grace. Inviting, grace-filled worship is paired with warmhearted fellowship and hospitality. The congregation values laughter, new friendships, prayer, study, and service to others without exception. There is always a place to worship, pray, and serve together.
Sunday Worship at 11:00 a.m.
Weekly worship begins at 11:00 a.m. at 5508 N. Alberta St. in Spokane, and nursery care is provided. The congregation's worship is inviting and grace-filled, with warmhearted fellowship and hospitality. For people joining away from the church, the weekly service is streamed on YouTube and Facebook, with Zoom available as a call-in option. Tuesdays at SPPC: Dinner, Youth and Child Care
Every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., the church building hosts a free community dinner with food to take home. Everyone is welcome, and volunteers help with cooking, dishes, and cleanup. The SPPC Youth Group gathers from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. for students in grades 6 through 12. They learn how to follow Jesus, love God, themselves, others, and their community, while pursuing personal growth, service, friendship, and fun. Dinner is served before the group. Free child care is provided for the Tuesday activities through 8:00 p.m. Christian McKinney serves as Music Director and Co-Director of Youth Ministry; Daniel Roberts directs Neighborhood Outreach and co-directs Youth Ministry; Alexa Ray is a youth leader.
Little Free Pantries and Growing Neighbors
One of the church's ministries maintains Little Free Pantries on and around its campus, including one on Alberta Street and another at Rowan and Cochran. Nonperishable food donations are welcome, and people may take what they need. The church partners with Caritas Food Bank, an ecumenical nonprofit established in 1992 that provides food, hygiene supplies, fuel vouchers or bus passes, and utility assistance. The church joins Caritas in a commitment to serve clients without prejudice or discrimination and preserve their dignity. Growing Neighbors partners with local organizations to encourage healthier lifestyles. Its goal is to develop Neighborhood Families: neighbors who share meals and resources, use their gifts to care for one another, and function like an extended family. These ministries are part of SPPC's effort to respond to food security, housing, and child care needs.
Three Bible Studies and Ministry Leaders
The congregation offers three recurring Bible studies:
- Senior Wisdom: 10:00 a.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays.
- Women Bible Study: 10:00 a.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays.
- Sermon Text Study with Pastor Jonathan: 11:30 a.m. on Mondays.
Pastor Jonathan Cornell leads the Monday text study. Shirley Loucks coordinates the nursery, and elder Corinne Wilson serves in Children's Ministry.
The rhythm of Shadle Park Presbyterian centers on the 11:00 a.m. Sunday service, the Tuesday table and youth gathering, ongoing study, and practical care for Spokane neighbors.
