Parkview Baptist Church has stood on Forsythe Avenue on the north side of Monroe, Louisiana, since July 1946, when thirty-three believers gathered at Georgia Tucker Elementary to plant a church. Generations later, the congregation still identifies itself by the same three marks: gospel-centered, community-oriented, and biblically sound. Worship is built around the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, fellowship runs deep among members, and preaching is carried out verse by verse through the Bible.
Sunday Morning Worship at 10:30
The Sunday service begins at 10:30 AM, and worship blends hymns from church history with newer songs. The center of the gathering is expository preaching that walks through the text of Scripture. Those who cannot attend in person can watch the service live through the church's livestream, and recent sermons are posted to the YouTube channel and a sermon archive.
Visitors are welcomed at the front desk, helped to find a seat, and pointed toward coffee. Dress is described as various forms of casual, and the consistent invitation is to come as you are. The congregation gathers to worship, then scatters into homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods to live out the same gospel it has just sung and heard proclaimed.
What to Expect With Children
Parkview runs a safe, fun environment for children from nursery age through ten years old during the worship service. Parents stop by the Welcome Desk when they arrive to register their kids. The aim is to give parents room to focus on the sermon while children are taught at their own level. Older students move into the Student Ministry.
Sunday School at 9:30
Before the service, the church gathers for Sunday School at 9:30 AM. Classes are arranged by age so that students and adults can study the Bible in a smaller setting. The church describes Sunday School as a place to grow deeper in God's Word together, and it functions as a feeder into the worship hour that follows.
Wednesday Nights Around the Table
Wednesday is the second main day at Parkview. Wednesday Night Fellowship begins at 5:00 PM with food, fun, and a Bible study that welcomes every age. It is the midweek anchor of the church's life: a time when the same gospel heard on Sunday morning is pressed into everyday conversations about work, school, and family.
At 6:00 PM, the Student Ministry takes over with its own gathering for middle and high school students. Through small groups, teaching, and special events, students are walked through what it means to follow Jesus with their peers rather than alone.
Parkview Students and Parkview Young Adults
The Student Ministry, led by Christian Charrier, oversees both middle and high school work and a young adults community. Christian Charrier took the role in May 2025 and is described as wanting to create a genuine, Christ-centered community focused on the gospel. He is married to Lorraine, and they have a daughter, Aletheia.
Parkview Young Adults is for people in the roughly 18 to 30 age range. The group meets every Sunday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Each week includes worship, teaching, free food, and honest discussion. The group keeps updates flowing on its own Instagram page, @pbc.youngadults, and welcomes newcomers to Monroe, skeptics, and anyone curious about faith.
The Beliefs That Shape the Church
Parkview Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention and subscribes to the Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as its doctrinal summary. Its doctrine shapes its mission: to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ in the Twin Cities and beyond.
The church teaches that all Scripture is breathed out by God and is totally true and trustworthy; that the one true God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, sharing equal deity; that human beings are made in the image of God and retain dignity at every stage of life from conception to death; that the gospel is the good news of all Christ accomplished in his life, death, resurrection, and ascension; that salvation is a free gift received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone; and that the local church exists to worship God, edify his people, and bear witness to his kingdom.
The two ordinances Christ gave the church, believer's baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper, are observed as acts of obedience. The congregation affirms Baptist distinctives such as the autonomy of the local church, the priesthood of all believers, and the sufficiency of Scripture in all matters of faith and practice.
A History Rooted in North Monroe
Parkview's story began in July 1946 with a small meeting at Georgia Tucker Elementary. The founding members wanted to plant a gospel-centered community on the growing north side of Monroe, and other believers in the area came alongside them. From the beginning, the church has been about gathering to worship, growing in faith, and serving neighbors.
Generation after generation, Parkview has remained a steady presence in North Monroe, walking alongside families through every season of life. A sanctuary windows project tells part of that story; a flipbook about the windows is available for anyone curious about the building. The church marked its 80th anniversary in 2026 with a service that included Dr. Lee McGlone preaching from 1 Samuel 7:12, a passage that speaks of setting up a stone of remembrance called Ebenezer.
The Team at Parkview
Terry Barnes serves as Senior Pastor. He came to Parkview in April 2022 after fourteen years as Executive Pastor at a church in the Mississippi Delta. He had previously served Parkview from 1999 to 2009 as Student Minister, so his return to the pulpit is a kind of homecoming. He and his wife, Denise, have been married for thirty-one years and have two grown children, Jonathan and Emily.
Mark Roberts serves as Music Minister. A Louisiana native, he spent more than twenty years in Mississippi ministry as a Pastor of Worship, Senior Adults, and Missions before returning home. He is the father of two adult children and grandfather to two.
Christian Charrier leads the Student Ministry, overseeing both Parkview Students and Parkview Young Adults.
Elaine Clark serves as Financial Director, having joined the staff in May 2023.
Gather, Scatter, Repeat
Parkview uses two words to describe its rhythm: gather and scatter. When the church gathers, it glorifies the gospel of Jesus Christ through congregational singing and expository preaching. When it scatters, it carries that worship into homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods, seeking to reflect Christ wherever its members go.
That rhythm shows up in Wednesday dinners, Sunday School classes, student small groups, and Pickle Ball nights in the Family Life Center. Pickle Ball meets every Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions. Extra paddles and balls are provided, and the only requirement is comfortable shoes and a good attitude.
Generosity and Giving
The church teaches that giving is an act of worship rooted in gratitude. Members can give online through the church's giving page, and the church expresses gratitude for gifts that fund ministry to children, students, and the wider Twin Cities community.
