From New Macedonia to Oakhurst
Officially begun on April 15, 1946, with 10 charter members, the church was first named New Macedonia Baptist Church. It became Oakhurst Baptist Church in October 1946. Rev. Robert Hughes was its first full-time pastor and served for more than 25 years. Other full-time pastors have included Rev. Cecil Baughman, Dr. Richard Crider, Dr. Keith Hudson, and Dr. Rob Roberts, who returned to become senior pastor on May 1, 2022.
Across those decades, Oakhurst has shared the gospel of Jesus Christ, supported mission work throughout the world, and asked its members to fulfill the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20.
A Christ-Centered Purpose
Oakhurst is a Christ-centered, Bible-believing congregation of Christians that desires to minister to its community and the world in the name of Jesus Christ. As a Southern Baptist church, it agrees with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. Its beliefs identify Christ as the only true hope for the world and the Head of the Church.
Learning and Serving Across the Generations
Small Groups, Women, and Loyal Ambassadors
Small groups, traditionally known as Sunday School classes, are ongoing for every age at every stage of life. The women's ministry seeks to help women develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and discover their unique purpose as a woman of God. Senior adults meet as the Loyal Ambassadors for fun, fellowship, and food at designated gatherings.
Children, Youth, and Music
Kidz Zone teaches children about Jesus and the Bible through games, crafts, and singing. The Youth Ministry is led by adults who are passionate about students in grades 6 through 12. Music gives members ways to glorify God through choir, kids' choir, and special music.
The Potter's House for State-Side Missionaries
The Potter's House is Oakhurst's former parsonage, now used as a lodging place for missionaries on state-side assignment. The lodging ministry supports missionaries serving in that capacity, while the congregation also supports mission work throughout the world.
