Sunday Morning on Fox Hill Road
Fox Hill Road Baptist Church sits on a quiet residential stretch of Fox Hill Road in Hampton, Virginia, where the members gather each Sunday to worship God, study His Word, and care for one another. The church describes its calling in three commitments: to worship God, to nurture God's people, and to witness in the world. From Sunday School classes for every generation to verse-by-verse preaching to partnerships with missionaries in places near and far, the life of the church flows from those three aims.
The Sunday rhythm is steady. Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 9:30 AM, and the Corporate Worship gathering starts at 10:45 AM and continues until 12:00 PM. First-time families who plan to use the children's check-in are encouraged to arrive a few minutes before 10:45 so drop-off is unhurried. The recommended entry is the side door, where bulletin boards share information about the church and the week's events. There is no dress code; the focus is on worship rather than attire, and on any given Sunday you might see t-shirts and jeans alongside dresses, ties, and jackets.
A Blend of Hymns and Modern Songs
The music at FHRBC is intentionally blended. Each service typically includes five songs drawn from a mix of traditional and modern hymns along with some contemporary songs. The congregation's collective voice is treated as the most important instrument, and musicians on piano, guitar, bass, and other instruments support the singing. Worshipers are encouraged to sing, raise hands, and engage in whatever ways feel natural. Simplicity is a deliberate value: the goal is for the gathered church to worship God and to encourage one another rather than to put on a performance.
Verse-by-Verse Through the Bible
The sermon is the primary part of each service. Pastors at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church teach through books of the Bible verse by verse, treating Scripture as the foundation for everything the church does. Prayer weaves through the gathering as well; the service typically opens and closes with prayer, with additional moments of prayer in between. On the first Sunday of every month, the congregation observes the Lord's Supper, the ordinance Christ gave His church to remember His death and anticipate His return.
Christian baptism at FHRBC is by immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is treated as an act of obedience symbolizing faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life, and it is a prerequisite to church membership and to the Lord's Supper.
Kids and Students at FHRBC
Children and students sit at the heart of the church's ministry. Sunday School at 9:30 AM uses The Biggest Story curriculum and offers a Nursery (up through age 3), a Preschool class for children who are potty-trained through Kindergarten, and an Elementary class for students in Grades 1 through 5. During the 10:45 AM Corporate Worship service, families are welcome to keep their children with them, and the noise that comes with little ones is welcomed as part of worshiping together. For those who prefer, a nursery is available for the entirety of the service, and Wee Worship is offered for 3-year-olds through Kindergarteners who are potty-trained, beginning after the singing and just before the sermon.
A ticketed check-in and pick-up process uses child tags and parent security tags. Children are released only to a parent, guardian, or approved trusted person who presents the matching security tag, and a photo ID is accepted if the tag is unavailable. Every volunteer is thoroughly background checked through MinistrySafe.
On Sunday evenings, students in Grades 6 through 12 gather for a Student Bible Study from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. The Student Ministry envisions a Biblically-guided and growing family of God-focused individuals who want to take the gospel into their community and the world. The work rests on the conviction that every student has the same basic needs: a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, saturation in the Word of God, and the call to grow in their own walk with the Lord.
Men, Ladies, Senior Adults, and Small Groups
The Ladies' Ministry at FHRBC gathers women to encourage, challenge, and walk alongside one another in every season of life, fostering authentic relationships and growing together in the truth of Scripture. The Men's Ministry exists for men to strengthen their relationship with God and to support one another in that walk, a place to grow spiritually, find encouragement, and forge friendships that last. The Senior Adults Ministry provides a welcoming community to share experience, faith, and interests during the golden years, with spiritual learning opportunities and social gatherings for those in similar seasons of life.
Small groups are a central expression of life together at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church. Being part of a church is understood as more than Sunday-morning attendance, and small groups provide space to grow deeper by studying the Bible, praying, and living real life together.
Missions in Poland, Spain, and the Hampton Area
Mission work at FHRBC is built on relationships rather than transactions. The church supports and walks alongside missionaries around the world, including Chuck and Vikki Franks who serve in Iława and Brodnica, Poland, and the Smith Family who serve in Barcelona, Spain. Additional supported works include J and R serving in the Middle East and another partner in Europe. Locally, the church walks with Care Net Peninsula and the Peninsula Rescue Mission, both focused on vulnerable people in the Hampton area. The church describes this work as growing relationships, praying together, crying together, and rejoicing together, rather than writing a check and sending it off in the mail.
What FHRBC Believes
The doctrinal commitments of Fox Hill Road Baptist Church track closely with the historic Baptist confession of faith. The church affirms that the Holy Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God, totally true and trustworthy, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard for Christian belief and conduct. There is one true God, infinite in holiness and all other perfections, who reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man, born of the virgin Mary, who honored the divine law through perfect obedience and provided redemption through His death on the cross. He rose again and will return in power and glory to judge the world. The Holy Spirit inspired Scripture, illuminates truth, regenerates believers, and seals them unto final redemption. Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and is worked out in regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification.
The church is understood as an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, practicing two ordinances, believer's baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper, and governed by pastors and deacons. The office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture. Marriage is described as the lifelong covenant union of one man and one woman, and the family is described as the foundational institution of human society. Christians are called to oppose racism, greed, selfishness, and every form of sexual immorality, and to work for the orphaned, the needy, the abused, the aged, the helpless, the sick, and the unborn.
In the Southern Baptist Family
Fox Hill Road Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, the Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia, and The Pillar Network. These voluntary associations support cooperation for missions, education, and ministry without exercising authority over the local congregation. Giving can be done online, by mail to 335 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, VA 23669, or through offering boxes placed in the hallway.
Pastor Will Cornett
Will Cornett is the pastor of Fox Hill Road Baptist Church. His story is one that testifies to the grace, mercy, and patience of the Lord. Will grew up in the home of faithful Christian parents and was converted at a young age at Seaford Baptist Church. Years of backsliding followed, but God continued to show mercy. He met Kim during that season, and they married in 2011. After a short time of ministry in Chesapeake, the Lord led him to Louisville, Kentucky, where he attended Southern Seminary. There, through the faithful exposition of Acts by his pastor, the shepherding of seminary professors, and the steady witness of Kim, Will repented of running from his Savior. God then brought Will, Kim, and their two children, Jaxon and Ellie, to Fox Hill Road Baptist Church.
