About Cornerstone Christian Church

Where to Find Cornerstone

Cornerstone Church sits on Howland Boulevard in Deltona, Florida, drawing families from across Volusia County. The church describes itself as a beacon of hope and centers its ministry on a simple mission: "we exist to see people encounter Jesus, develop their faith and serve others." From its campus on Howland Boulevard, Cornerstone reaches into Deltona, DeLand and beyond through weekend gatherings, a midweek student ministry, small groups, an extensive volunteer network, and a wide slate of local and global ministry partners.

What Cornerstone Believes

Cornerstone teaches a conservative evangelical faith organized around a clear set of core doctrines. The church confesses belief in one God who eternally exists as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, equal in power and authority. God the Father is described as the creator of all things, good, holy and ever present, and as the adoptive Father of all who place their faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is affirmed as fully human and fully God, the only way to a right relationship with the Father. He lived a perfect life, died as a substitute for sinners, rose again in victory over death, and will return in power and glory to complete His mission of redemption.

The Holy Spirit is described as the assurance of the believer's relationship with Christ. He guides believers into truth, inspired the writers of Scripture, convicts the world of sin, comforts believers, gives spiritual gifts and makes them more like Christ. Salvation, the church teaches, comes through faith in the atoning work of Christ and not through human works; it is received as a gift that promises eternal life. The Bible is held to be the inspired, complete and error-free Word of God, authoritative even to its very words, and Cornerstone teaches directly from its pages.

The church describes itself as an autonomous local body that cooperates with many Christian agencies but is regulated by none. Baptism is practiced by full immersion as a public expression of faith, and joining members are asked to be baptized if they have not already been. Communion is observed at each gathering, with the bread representing Christ's body and the cup His blood, given in remembrance and personal reflection. Cornerstone also outlines a social ethic that opposes racism, greed, sexual immorality and pornography, calls for care of the orphaned, needy and sick, and advocates for the unborn. The Second Coming is taught as a literal future event, after which each person's eternal destiny is sealed.

Weekend Gatherings

Cornerstone holds four weekend worship services each week. On Saturday evening the doors open at 6:00 PM, and on Sunday morning services run at 8:30, 10:00 and 11:30 AM. Each gathering follows the same format: a contemporary service built around worship music, biblical teaching and prayer. Messages are recorded and posted so anyone can catch up on the most recent sermon at any time.

First-time guests are greeted by a parking team that directs new arrivals and a First Impressions team ready with tours and answers. Ushers help everyone find a seat. Generosity boxes in the lobby accept cash, check or card during any gathering. The Cornerstone Kids program runs during every service, and a high-energy student gathering meets midweek.

Cornerstone Kids

Cornerstone Kids serves children from newborn through fifth grade and meets during every weekend gathering. Each weekend children experience an age-appropriate mix of worship, games, Bible stories, crafts and small-group time designed to help them grow in faith in a safe and intentional environment.

Security is taken seriously. Only parents and trained volunteers wearing security tags are admitted to Kids Ministry areas, and all volunteers complete background checks and screening before serving. A safety team is present during weekend services, and children who have shown signs of illness in the past 24 hours are asked to stay home. First-time families are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early and stop at the First Time Guest table just inside the main hallway doors, where a volunteer will check the child in and walk the family to the right classroom. Returning families can save time by pre-checking in through the Church Center app, then use a QR code at the check-in station to print name tags on arrival.

The team is led by Katlyn Richards, whose goal is simple: "to help every kid know and love Jesus."

Cornerstone Students

Cornerstone Students welcomes sixth through twelfth graders every Thursday at 6:30 PM on the church campus. The night is high energy and relational, with dinner provided before the program so students can eat together and build community. Each week the gathering mixes teaching, worship and small-group time in an atmosphere where students can ask honest questions and experience Jesus.

Students have their own Instagram, TikTok and Facebook pages to keep them connected to what is happening during the week. The ministry is led by Scott Macedo, Next Gen Director, who sees student ministry as a place "to see middle and high schoolers discover who God is and who He has made them to be."

Groups: Doing Life Together

Cornerstone's small-group ministry is built on the conviction that "church doesn't just happen on the weekends." Groups meet during the week in homes, parks and other spaces around Deltona and the surrounding area, organized into three flavors. Study Groups focus on a specific topic or the application of the weekend message. Development Groups take a more practical approach with topics like financial strategy and marriage classes. Hobby Groups center on shared interests and include prayer and intentional conversations about faith.

Anyone interested in leading a group is invited to apply; the church provides training and support. Jeremy Worth directs the Groups ministry and often sees the same theme play out: people finding real community and growing in faith together. The church encourages newcomers to start by finding a group that fits their stage of life.

CREWs, Creative and the Sunday Experience

Behind every weekend gathering is a network of volunteer teams Cornerstone calls CREWs. First Impressions volunteers welcome guests, give tours and answer questions. The Parking team directs traffic and helps first-time families find their way. Ushers help with seating. Setup and Breakdown crews handle signage and equipment. A Safety team handles needs as they arise, and the Gathering Place food truck team prepares meals during the weekend.

A separate Creative ministry serves the church with worship, audio and visual, photography and video, social media and graphic design. The worship team leads Cornerstone's services in contemporary song and praise, and vocalists and musicians are encouraged to join. Benji Hovis directs the Creative ministry and frames the work as "expressions of faith" that present the love of Jesus in an authentic and relevant way.

Outreach: Local and Global

Cornerstone's Outreach ministry puts faith into action in Deltona, across Volusia County and around the world. On the third Saturday of every month, the church's Deltona campus hosts Free Groceries and Breakfast, distributing groceries prepared by volunteers. On the second and third Monday of each month, a team cooks and serves hot meals at the Bridge in DeLand. Random Acts of Kindness volunteers respond to neighborhood needs with free services like lawn care and minor home repairs, and Helping Hands supports families in unexpected circumstances with meals and meal trains. A prayer team receives requests and partners with individuals in lifting up needs to God.

Globally, Cornerstone partners with a wide network of ministries. Local partners include the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Volusia County schools, the Hope Resource Center in Deltona, Bikers Against Trafficking in Volusia County, Coastal Choices Women's Clinic in DeLand, and Lake Aurora Christian Camp in Lake Wales, which hosts summer camps for middle and high school students. Internationally the church supports Bethel Church in Cuba with annual outreach trips, Central Brazil Missions along the Amazon, Wycliffe Associates for Bible translation, the Christian Holy Land Foundation in Israel and surrounding countries, SALT Ministries in Thailand, Voice of the Martyrs serving persecuted Christians worldwide, and Ukraine Missions.

Raven Trumbly directs the Outreach ministry and frames it as "the response to God's love in our lives, and our desire to share it with others."

Pastoral Team and Elders

Cornerstone is led by a pastoral team and a board of elders. Kevin Key serves as Lead Pastor. Bob Combs is Executive Pastor, and Mike Elliot serves as both Associate Pastor and Elder. The eldership also includes Wade Bailey, John Lugo, Jim Pepin and Jim Smith.

The support team includes Tyler Key as Director of Operations, Katlyn Richards as Connections Director, Jeremy Worth as Groups Director, Raven Trumbly as Outreach Director, Scott Macedo as Next Gen Director, Benji Hovis as Creative Director, and Ricardo Ortiz as Worship Director. Messages are posted on YouTube, and the church maintains an active presence on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok for ongoing connection throughout the week.

Generosity as a Way of Life

Generosity is one of Cornerstone's stated values. The church teaches that all that members have is a blessing from God and that generosity is expressed in time, talent and treasure. Giving is available online through Church Center, where ACH is the preferred method to reduce processing fees. In-person giving is available through the generosity boxes during weekend gatherings, and non-cash gifts such as stocks, mutual funds, real estate or estate planning are welcomed as well.
