Two Sunday Mornings, One Mission on Inman Road
Cornerstone Baptist Church sits on Inman Road in northwest Greensboro, North Carolina, and has built its Sunday rhythm around a single conviction: a church should gather to worship, grow in God's Word, give generously, and go out into the world. That conviction is captured in the church's tagline, "Follow Jesus. Reach People," and is lived out through four foundational practices the congregation calls Gather, Grow, Give, and Go.
Every Sunday morning the church offers two distinct worship services. At 8:30 AM the blended service meets in the Sanctuary and combines a choir and a praise team, weaving traditional and contemporary music together. At 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM the modern service meets in the Family Life Center and features a full worship band. Every service stays centered on the preaching of God's Word in a style that the church describes as powerful and relevant to everyday life. A new worship center designed to host both styles under one roof is planned to open by Easter 2027.
For first-time visitors, the church keeps the welcome simple. Dress is casual and comfortable. A parking team greets cars and guides visitors to open spots. A Welcome Center near the entrance offers a free gift and an easy way to learn more about the church, and a Connect Card is available for anyone who wants the staff to follow up. Children's ministry is offered for every age from babies through 5th grade at both the 9:30 and 11:00 services, with childcare also available during the 8:30 service.
Kids: Partnering with Parents from Babies Through 5th Grade
Cornerstone's Kids Ministry, led by Children's Director Heather Lafrancis, partners with parents to help children know and follow Jesus. On Sunday mornings children from infants through 5th grade meet in dedicated Cornerstone Kids classrooms at 9:30 and 11:00. Kids in 3rd grade and up are encouraged to worship with their families during one service and attend Kids Ministry during the other. Worship Guides help children engage with the message during both services.
On Sunday evenings the 4G Kids Choir rehearses from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall, open to children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Childcare is available in the Kids Wing for parents attending evening discipleship groups.
Wednesday nights are anchored by AWANA, a Bible-centered program that runs each year from early September through mid-May. Children age 2 (by September 1) through 5th grade gather from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the Kids Wing, with a family meal served beforehand at 5:00 PM. The program is organized into Puggles (2-year-olds), Cubbies (ages 3 through Pre-K), Sparks (kindergarten through 2nd grade), and T&T (3rd through 5th grade). A nursery is available for children whose parents are volunteering or participating in choir, discipleship groups, or Bible studies.
Students: Discipleship Groups and WKLY
Next Generation Student Ministry is led by Student Pastor Michael Boyles and is built around two weekly touchpoints for 6th through 12th graders.
Student Discipleship Groups meet on Sundays at 11:00 AM in the Upstairs Student Room. Age and gender based, these groups are led by trained, background-checked adults who walk students through Scripture and help them move from simply attending church to owning their faith. WKLY, the Sunday evening gathering, runs from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in the Family Life Center gym. It is a relaxed space where students hang out, worship with their peers, and hear gospel-centered preaching designed for them. The student ministry also organizes retreats and seasonal events throughout the year.
Discipleship Groups: The Heartbeat of the Week
If worship is the front door of Cornerstone, Discipleship Groups are the living room. The church's Discipleship Groups ministry offers classes and Bible studies nearly every day of the week for adults, students, and kids.
On Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM, more than a dozen adult groups meet across the campus, including Coed Adults 20-40, Open Age Men, Parents Connect, Coed Adults 65+, Open Age Adults, Open Age Ladies, and Christian Partners, led by a roster of trained lay leaders and pastors. Kids' ministry is offered at 9:45 and 11:00, and middle and high school students meet at 11:00 in the Upstairs Student Space.
Sunday evenings at 5:00 PM add a College and Young Adults group led by Pastor Josh Wester and others, along with additional coed adult groups meeting on campus and in homes. Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM bring a Prayer and Bible Study in the Fellowship Hall, a Women's Bible Study, groups for adults in their twenties and thirties, and an Open Age Men's group. A Discipler's Bible Study meets Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary, and a Men's Bible Study gathers at 6:15 AM on Thursdays in the Fellowship Hall. Each group chooses its own study material, with many working through the passage from the previous Sunday's sermon.
Around Greensboro and Around the World
Missions at Cornerstone is shaped by the Great Commission and is organized into local, national, and international efforts.
Local missions flow through four ongoing partnerships. On the first and second Saturdays of each month, volunteers meet at 6:00 AM in the Weaver House Community Kitchen to prepare and serve breakfast for guests at the Weaver House Night Shelter. The Blue Barrel Ministry collects food donations in barrels placed in the Commons each month and delivers them to Greensboro Urban Ministry's food pantry. The church supports The Pregnancy Network year-round through mentoring, monthly giving, and serving at its annual Walk for Life fundraiser. And every Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM a team ministers to men and women at the Guilford County Jail.
National missions include a long-term church-planting partnership with Lemanuel (Manny) Williams and City of Shalom Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and financial support of Southern Baptist missionaries through the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.
International missions center on a partnership with Mercy and Grace Ministries in Honduras, with a team typically sent each summer to serve alongside the ministry in practical and spiritual ways. The church is also exploring new opportunities in India and Italy, and supports global missionaries through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
WEE School: A Christ-Centered Preschool
WEE School is the church's weekday preschool, directed by Sarah Chaplin. The program serves young children in a safe, joyful, and God-honoring environment where the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of every child are cared for. The school's purpose is threefold: to serve each child with loving care and purposeful instruction, to walk alongside families as a partner, and to extend a nurturing, faith-filled presence into the wider community. WEE School operates from Cornerstone's campus on Inman Road and provides its own registration, payment, and parent information services.
What We Believe
Cornerstone holds to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as its confession of faith. The church teaches that the Bible is divinely inspired, completely truthful, and centered on Christ; that there is one true and living God who reveals Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man, who died on the cross for sinners and rose again; and that the Holy Spirit convicts, regenerates, and empowers believers for worship, evangelism, and service. Salvation is offered freely to all who place personal faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, through repentance and trust. The church also affirms that every person, made in the image of God, possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
From the Front Door to the Mission Field
Pastoral care at Cornerstone is shared by a team that includes Lead Pastor Josh Wester, Executive Pastor Dennis Nealy, Senior Adult and Blended Worship Pastor Jon Boling, Student Pastor Michael Boyles, Shepherding Pastor Jim Grasty, and Pastoral Resident Connor Moran. Jim Grasty, in particular, focuses on the church's senior adults, making home visits, walking them through life's challenges, and providing fellowship, prayer, Bible study, and encouragement.
For visitors and newcomers, the front door is Starting Point, a 90-minute gathering held several times a year in the Fellowship Hall. Lunch and childcare are provided. Pastors and key leaders share the story of Cornerstone, explain its mission and vision, and walk through what membership looks like. There is no obligation, just an open door to ask questions and explore next steps.
For those ready to serve, the church organizes ministry teams across Sunday morning welcome and hospitality, the worship choir and band, audio and video, security, food service, kids and student ministry, and discipleship group leadership. Giving is supported through online giving, in-service offerings, mailed gifts, and gifts of stock or mutual funds.
Sermons are available each week through the church's YouTube channel, where services are also livestreamed. Office hours run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the church can always be reached at (336) 665-1944 or connect@cbc-gso.org.
