An Assembly on 32 Road in Clifton
Clifton Bible Chapel sits on 32 Road in Clifton, Colorado, a small town just east of Grand Junction in the Grand Valley. It is the meeting place for an independent assembly of Christians who gather regularly around the teachings of the New Testament, seeking to keep the pattern of the early church simple and unhurried.
The Pattern of Acts 2:42
The assembly's own description of itself leans on a single verse. It seeks to maintain the New Testament pattern of simplicity in meeting, "where believers can enjoy all their spiritual privileges and assume their responsibilities," pointing to Acts 2:42 as its model: continued steadfastness in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
That verse is paired with two others. Ephesians 3:10 speaks of "the manifold wisdom of God" being made known by the church, and Ephesians 4:16 describes the body of Christ joined and held together, with each part working properly so the body builds itself up in love. Together they form the assembly's quiet self-portrait: a gathered people, dependent on Scripture, knit together in shared life.
Sunday Mornings in Two Parts
Visitors who come on a Sunday will find two consecutive hours of gathering. From 10:00 to 11:00 AM, the chapel meets for Sunday school, with classes for both adults and children. At 11:00 AM, the meeting shifts to the preaching of the Word and runs to noon. The schedule is unhurried, and the format reflects the chapel's broader preference for simplicity over formality.
Wednesday Evenings Around Scripture and Prayer
Midweek life at the chapel centers on a Bible study and prayer meeting that runs from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday evenings. Members and friends gather to work through Scripture and to bring one another's concerns before the Lord, continuing the practice of steady, regular meeting that defines the assembly.
What the Chapel Teaches
The chapel's statement of faith is laid out plainly, moving through the doctrines that shape its life together.
It begins with the Bible, which it calls the divinely inspired inherent Word of God and the only infallible guide for salvation and the Christian life. From there it affirms belief in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and in the full deity and sinless humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ, born of a virgin.
The statement goes on to confess that every human being inherits Adam's fallen nature, that the penalty for sin is death, and that salvation is found in Christ alone. It holds to the gospel that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day "according to the Scriptures," warning against any other message as accursed. The chapel teaches the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost.
It also affirms the finished work of Christ on the cross, the immediate and eternal salvation of all who truly believe, the believer's birth by the Holy Spirit and baptism into the one body of Christ, and the personal, imminent, and pre-millennial coming of the Lord in the air to rapture the church. A second coming is expected, when Christ will be revealed in glory to reign in righteousness.
