A Brethren Congregation on Gale Street
Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren sits at 301 Gale Street in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, in Cumberland County. The congregation's motto, "Continuing the Work of Jesus. Peacefully. Simply. Together.", sets the tone for a body of believers who describe themselves as striving to live out their faith in Jesus Christ by welcoming others, developing believers, strengthening congregational community, and sharing God's love through service and outreach. The church building is handicap accessible, and visitors are greeted by an open invitation to come as they are.
Sunday Mornings at 10:30
Sunday School begins at 9:00 AM, with the worship service following at 10:30 AM. Services are held in English, and the congregation livestreams its services on YouTube, with a media archive that goes back through recent weeks. Recordings of the Sunday morning service are posted online so members and friends can keep up when they cannot be present in person.
Wednesday Bible Study, Choirs, and Quilting
Midweek life at the church follows a steady rhythm. A Zoom-based Bible study meets every Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM from September through May, pausing during the summer months of June, July, and August. The Quilting group gathers in the Choir Room at the same Wednesday morning hour, providing a hands-on way to serve others. On Wednesday evenings, the music ministry fills the building: the Instrumental Ensemble rehearses at 6:30 PM, followed by the Chancel Choir at 7:30 PM. The Bell Choir adds a third ensemble, meeting on Thursdays at 6:00 PM.
Grief, Caregiving, and the Reading Life
Beyond the weekly schedule, the church hosts several monthly support circles in its Library. The Grief Support Group meets on the first Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM, offering a compassionate setting for those who have lost loved ones. A Caregivers Support Group gathers on the third Tuesday at 1:00 PM, providing a place for anyone currently caring for a loved one - or who has in the past - to share experiences with others walking a similar road. On the last Monday evening of each month at 7:00 PM, a Book Club meets to discuss a chosen selection, with each month's pick announced in the newsletter "The Carillon." The Knitting Group gathers on the second and fourth Mondays at 1:00 PM in the Library.
Family Promise and Hands-On Outreach
The church's outreach page points visitors toward ministries that serve the wider Mechanicsburg community and beyond. The congregation is a long-standing partner of Family Promise, a Central Pennsylvania nonprofit whose mission is to empower families through relationships and skill-building to move from homelessness to home. An events page also lists activities coordinated with the Southern Pennsylvania District Church of the Brethren, keeping the local congregation connected to the wider district.
Pastor, Office, and Giving
Rev. Dr. Eric Seibert serves as pastor. The church office is open from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with an answering service picking up after hours at 717.766.8880. Contributions can be made by cash or check during Sunday morning services, mailed to the Gale Street address, or arranged through the church office. The Carillon, the congregation's newsletter, keeps members informed of upcoming activities, book selections, and district events.
