Christ Community Church in Omaha: An Alliance Family at 404 South 108th Avenue

Holiness / Church of the Nazarene Church in Omaha, Nebraska

Christ Community Church is a Christian and Missionary Alliance congregation in Omaha, Nebraska, with about 3,000 in weekly attendance, ASL-interpreted services, a thriving Deaf Ministry, four ethnic fellowships sharing the same campus, and a worldwide missions reach. The church runs everything from nursery through college-age ministries, CityCare Counseling, and a robust Renewal and Care network for hard seasons of life.

About Christ Community Church

Christ Community Church rises on a single campus at 404 South 108th Avenue in Omaha, on the western edge of the city near the West Dodge corridor. About 3,000 people gather there each week for worship and ministry that runs from a fully interpreted ASL service and four ethnic fellowships sharing the same building to a network of international workers and gospel-centered nonprofits stretching from Omaha to West Africa. The motto the church distills from all of it is three words: Belong. Believe. Become.

Lead Minister Mark Ashton has served the church since April 1, 2006. He leads a 50-person staff in what the church calls a multi-venue environment, chairs the national board of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and serves as the founding pastor of CityCare Counseling, the church's licensed Christian counseling center. He helped raise more than two million dollars toward a Hospital for Women and Children in West Africa that has welcomed over 20,000 babies since 2006.

The Eight Marks of the CCC DNA

The church describes its life through eight values it calls the CCC DNA. Together they shape everything from sermon series to volunteer training.

  • We Are All for Jesus. Jesus saves his people from their past, remakes them to be like him, heals their broken places, and is coming back as king.
  • We Are Empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit within them enables a life beyond belief - a life filled with joy, purpose, and power. They live in a supernatural reality that includes yet transcends the physical universe.
  • We Encounter the Father Daily. God the Father speaks through the Bible, and his people commune with him through prayer.
  • We Do Life Together. "Community" is the church's middle name. Every person of every generation is wanted, needed, and known, and there is always room for one more.
  • We Are Contributors, Not Consumers. They do not attend church - they are the church, and they exist in and for the world.
  • We Bring the Best News Ever to the Least-Reached People. It is their privilege to take the gospel around the world, focusing on the hardest places where the odds are stacked against them.
  • We Are Outrageously Generous. They are most like God when they give generously, because everything belongs to God anyway.
  • We Are on Mission to Reach One More. Every neighbor, coworker, friend, and family member matters to God, and so every one of them matters to the church.

What Christ Community Church Believes

Christ Community Church is a member congregation of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, an Acts 1:8 family whose mission is to know Jesus Christ as Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King, and to complete his Great Commission.

The church's six-point statement of faith centers on:

  • Jesus is fully God and fully man.
  • The Holy Spirit lives within all believers to teach, empower, and guide.
  • The Bible is the trustworthy and true communication from God.
  • The forgiveness of sins was purchased once and for all by Jesus' death on the cross.
  • New life today and forever is assured by Jesus' bodily resurrection from the dead for all who trust in him.
  • The return of Jesus will usher in the Kingdom of God in all its fullness.

Those who want to take a next step toward membership at CCC walk through CCC 101, four weekly experiences called Encounter, Connect, Discover, and Contribute, offered on the first four Sundays of each month.

Sundays at 9 and 10:45 with ASL from the Start

Two morning services run side by side at 9:00 and 10:45 AM Central Time, each one filled with music, prayer, and a message from Lead Minister Mark Ashton or one of the other pastors on the team. Services typically last 65 to 75 minutes and carry a mix of musical styles - contemporary and traditional woven together - that reflects the multi-generational makeup of the room.

The 9:00 AM service is interpreted in American Sign Language and serves as the main gathering point for the Deaf Ministry. The ASL Choir performs during the service, and DeaFellowship follows the sermon in greater depth at 10:45 AM.

From the moment guests arrive, volunteers in blue shirts from the Guest Experience Team are at the doors to greet them and answer questions. A Connect Area in the Atrium serves as a one-stop shop for questions, helpful information, and learning about next steps. First-time guests receive a small gift.

Parking is simple. Guests enter on 108th Avenue, stay in the left lane, and follow the circle drive to designated guest parking on the right. The CCC Kids entrance sits on the east side of the building, off Harney Street, with a large glass doorway marked by colored poles. There is no dress code - wear whatever is comfortable.

For those unable to attend in person, services stream live at 9:00 and 10:45 AM on YouTube Live, Facebook Live, and at cccomaha.tv. A Zoom huddle between services connects online and in-person attenders for a short time of prayer and conversation. The unCOMFORTABLE podcast carries the church's conversations about culture and Christianity out into the wider world.

From the Nursery Through College

Family ministry at CCC runs the full span from infancy to graduation.

CCC Kids offers Sunday programming for children from birth through fifth grade, with a well-staffed nursery, age-tailored Bible lessons, and the Think Orange curriculum that pairs church and home teaching. The Friends Ministry adapts the same lessons for children with special needs and welcomes them into a regular setting with trained volunteers. Two scouting-style programs call the church home: Trail Life USA for boys in kindergarten through twelfth grade meets first and third Mondays in the Gym, and American Heritage Girls for girls meets first and third Mondays in the Chapel. Upward Sports offers soccer, flag football, and cheer on the church's sports fields. Parent and Child Dedications are held four times a year in the main services.

Middle School students in grades six through eight gather on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM in the Student Center for Bible study and games, and on Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM (August through early May) for worship, teaching, and community groups in the Gym. Summer programming shifts to 6:00 to 7:30 PM.

High School students meet on Sunday nights (August through April) and Wednesday nights (May through July) for worship, teaching, and small groups. A Student Leadership Community invests deeper in students who want to lead the ministry alongside adults.

College students gather Thursday nights at 7:00 PM at The Porch, 10825 Harney Street, with Bible studies also meeting on the campuses of UNO, Creighton, and Metro Community College. The College Leadership Team disciples eighteen- to twenty-three-year-olds in intentional gospel relationships and helps shape a ministry that prepares young adults to engage God's mission for a lifetime.

A Church for Hard Seasons: Renewal and Care

Renewal and Care is the umbrella over the church's pastoral care and counseling work, anchored by CityCare Counseling, the licensed Christian counseling center Mark Ashton founded. CityCare's licensed professional counselors blend evidence-based practice with a Christ-centered worldview and offer confidential therapy in the city.

Stephen Ministry trains men and women to walk alongside people in difficult seasons - grief, divorce, job loss, illness, loneliness, or spiritual crisis - with confidential, one-on-one Christian care.

Renewal Groups gather on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM across multiple rooms in the building. The roster includes Addictions, DivorceCare, GriefShare, Families of Suicide Loss (for adult siblings), Hope After Betrayal (for women), Hope for Struggling Parents, Men's Sexual Integrity, Women's Sexual Abuse and Trauma, Overcoming Codependency, a Re:generation Twelve-Step group, and the Healing and Freedom Ministry Team. The church hosts NAMI Connections and NAMI Family Support groups in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness. A separate Christ-centered group called No Shame meets Thursday evenings for mental wellness support and discipleship.

Spiritual Direction is offered monthly with Wendell Nelson or Erin Huber, providing one-on-one space to notice God's presence and promptings. The Prayer Room on the north side of the Atrium is open Sunday mornings from 9:00 AM to noon. Three prayer ministries round out the work: Transformation Prayer Ministry for emotional healing, a physical healing prayer team, and a deliverance ministry for those seeking freedom in Christ.

The Marriage ministry includes the Real Marriage class, Marriage CPR for marriages in crisis, the Marriage Matters six-week premarital course, and on-demand SoulCare Marriage Conference resources. The Care Team, composed of gifted lay people, provides non-emergency pastoral care to senior adults through phone calls and personal visits.

The Deaf Ministry at the Heart of CCC

The Deaf Ministry exists, in the church's own words, "to help Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing people see and understand Jesus Christ, accept him as their Savior, and grow in relationship with him." God has grown the ministry over the years into a broad community of Deaf-led classes, interpreters, and outreach opportunities for Deaf people and their families, with Kari Analco serving as the Deaf Ministry Coordinator.

The interpreted 9:00 AM Sunday service anchors the rhythm of the week. The ASL Choir performs at both morning services. Beyond Sunday morning, nearly every day of the week has something for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community:

  • ASL Café meets first and third Thursdays at noon in the Atrium and is open to both deaf and hearing friends.
  • DeaFellowship gathers on Sundays at 10:45 AM for deeper discussion of the morning's sermon.
  • MomCo (the church's version of MOPS) meets second and fourth Thursdays from 9:15 to 11:15 AM with ASL interpretation, plus childcare for birth through preschool.
  • Deeper is a Wednesday-night family discipleship group from September through May, with adult Bible study and parallel kids programming for birth through fifth grade.
  • Signing Kids Ministry welcomes deaf and hard-of-hearing children, their family members, and friends for a Bible lesson and related activities in a safe and nurturing atmosphere.
  • Men's and Women's Bible studies round out the discipleship options, with details available from the Deaf Ministry Coordinator.

Those needing an ASL interpreter at a CCC event can request one through the church's online forms.

Missions from Omaha to the World

Missions has been at the heart of CCC since its founding, both across the city and around the globe.

Locally, the church runs ESL Omaha, a free English-language program for adult refugees, immigrants, and foreign-born neighbors. Classes meet Tuesday evenings, with a separate women's Thursday-morning class and childcare provided for both. No paperwork, no fees, no barriers.

The annual City Serve weekend draws hundreds of volunteers into one city-wide project list, with shorter Saturday Serve projects throughout the year placing volunteers inside local nonprofits such as The Furniture Project, Open Door Mission, and Abide's back-to-school events. Hands-from-Home projects let people who can't leave home support missions with cookies for RISE Wellness Hours, inspiration cards for Open Door Mission guests, or supply drives for community partners.

The church supports roughly two dozen long-term international workers and their families, serving in West Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Muslim world, and parts of the United States. The Hospital for Women and Children in West Africa that Mark Ashton championed has welcomed over 20,000 babies since 2006.

The Missions Prayer Team lifts up the work each week. Short-term mission trips through the year give congregants a chance to serve alongside these workers on the ground.

Five Congregations Sharing One Roof

Four additional congregations share the CCC campus for weekly worship in their own languages, turning a single church building into one of the most multilingual worship hubs in Omaha:

  • New Life Nepali Bhutanese Church, led by Pastor Phurba Tamang, meets at 10:30 AM Sundays at The Porch, 10845 Harney Street, for the Nepali-speaking Bhutanese community.
  • El Tabernaculo de Dios, pastored by Pastor Alex Nunez, gathers at 10:30 AM Sundays in the CCC Chapel for the Spanish-speaking Hispanic community.
  • South Sudanese Ministry, led by Pastor Jacob Dhal, meets at 1:00 PM Sundays in the CCC Chapel.
  • Hmong Alliance Fellowship, shepherded by Pastor Keng Xiong, gathers at 1:00 PM Sundays in CCC Room C117.

Each fellowship maintains its own pastor and worship rhythm, while sharing the building, parking, and other practical resources of the 108th Avenue campus.

Weddings, Funerals, and the CCC Residency

The CCC Chapel seats up to 250 guests and hosts both weddings and funerals. Weddings cost $600 for non-members and $450 for members, with a $200 non-refundable deposit required within 90 days of cancellation. A $50 projector fee covers slideshow or video displays.

Marriage Matters, a required six-week premarital class, is offered in February, May, and September, followed by four mentor-couple sessions and a FOCCUS pre-marriage inventory. Pastors who commonly officiate weddings at CCC include Allison Dykhouse, Alex Ehly, Brad Mock, Jarrett Black, Jed Logue, Kari Analco (ASL), Marc Montanye, and Megan Elford. Two weddings are never booked at the same time, and rehearsal dinners or receptions are not hosted at the church. The chapel and the rest of the building are handicap accessible.

For funerals, the church serves active attenders and their immediate families through visitations, chapel services, graveside services, or immediate burials.

For those sensing a call to ministry, the CCC Residency is a two-year program that pairs practical ministry experience, graduate education, and mentoring from CCC staff. Cohorts cycle regularly, with residents serving across Kids, Youth, College, Adult Ministries, Renewal and Care, Deaf Ministry, Missions, and Worship.

Generous giving - online, by mail, by stock transfer, or through planned gifts - flows through the church's One Fund, supporting ministry, missions, benevolence assistance to those in the city, and the wider work of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. The CCC app and weekly email keep the community in conversation with one another between Sundays.
