Calvary Baptist Shallotte is a small, family-oriented Baptist church at 623 Village Rd SW in Shallotte, North Carolina. It is known for a simple rhythm of Scripture study, fellowship, worship and ministry for every age: Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m., fellowship follows at 10:30, and worship begins at 10:45. Its mission is to engage in a rich relationship with Jesus and make him known in Shallotte.
A Small Church with a Clear Mission in Shallotte
Calvary welcomes people regardless of who they are or what they have done. Its small, family-oriented character is intended to help newcomers feel at home quickly. The church names Joe Needham as lead pastor, Rick Carter as associate pastor of worship and pastoral care, and Valerie Wilson as missions director and church pianist.
Sunday School, Fellowship and Expository Worship
Sunday mornings have three connected rhythms. Sunday school classes run from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and meet in groups that walk through Scripture together. Fellowship Time begins at 10:30 a.m., then the Sunday Gathering moves into worship at 10:45 a.m. Services typically last 60 to 75 minutes, with some flexibility for meaningful moments. Sunday morning preaching is primarily expository: Calvary teaches through books of the Bible and emphasizes hearing directly from God's Word. Worship Choir Practice follows at noon.
The 9:45 groups and 10:30 fellowship hour give adults distinct times for study and fellowship before the 10:45 service. The noon choir practice continues the Sunday schedule beyond the main gathering. The 10:45 a.m. gathering is livestreamed through a Boxcast livestream and a YouTube channel.
A First Sunday for Adults and Families
First-time visitors do not need to choose between formal and casual clothing. Some people wear suits, while others wear T-shirts, and the church's direction is simply to come as you are.
Kid's Church meets at 9:45 and 10:45 on Sundays, alongside the church's classes and worship gathering. It is a safe, fun and age-appropriate time where children enjoy songs, hear Bible stories and take part in activities that help them understand God's love. A nursery is available for infants on Sunday. Wednesday's 6 p.m. gathering also includes Kid's Ministry at the church campus.
The youth ministry emphasizes transparency and boldness in a Christ-centered relationship with a generation that will accept nothing but the truth. The church also encourages the potential beyond what the world sees.
Wednesday Bible Study, Prayer and a Shared Meal
Wednesday combines several regular rhythms. At 11 a.m., adults can join an online, 30-minute Bible study focused on an in-depth study of God's Holy Word. A Mini Meal begins at 5:30 p.m., with a full meal on the third Wednesday of each month.
The 6 p.m. hour includes Prayer Service and the weekly Night Bible Study, which is broadcast live online. The third Wednesday gathering is a business meeting at the Calvary Baptist Church campus. At 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, youth and Kid's Ministry also meet at the church campus. This gives adults and younger people distinct ways to take part in the church's midweek life.
The Gospel of Grace and Relationship
Calvary's gospel teaching begins with humanity's broken condition: no one is righteous, and all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. God's love is demonstrated in Christ's death for sinners. Salvation is received by confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in the heart that God raised him from the dead. The church emphasizes that salvation comes by grace through faith, not by works, and describes it as the unearned, free gift of God.
The gospel is described as the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, with the Jew first and also the Greek. Romans 10:9-10 describes belief with the heart and confession with the mouth, while Ephesians 2:8-9 emphasizes that salvation is God's gift rather than something people produce for themselves.
The gospel is also more than entry into heaven. Eternal life, in Calvary's teaching, is deeply, richly and personally knowing the one true God and Jesus Christ, who took on flesh to die for people. Following Jesus is not portrayed as easy. The church acknowledges that a life with Jesus includes hardship while affirming that knowing Jesus is worth more than hardship. These themes shape the church's expository Sunday preaching and its wider desire to engage people in a rich relationship with Jesus.
Missions Across Four States
Calvary directly supports several mission efforts in North Carolina, West Virginia, Alaska and Montana. The aim of these efforts is to lead people to know Jesus Christ and grow in a relationship with him. The church's mission statement names Shallotte as the place where it wants to make Jesus known, while this mission support extends into three other states. Missions Director Valerie Wilson also serves as church pianist.
Baptist Women and Baptist Men
Baptist Women meet on the third Sunday of each month at 3 p.m. Baptist Men meet on the last Saturday of each month for breakfast at 8 a.m. These are recurring gatherings within Calvary's ministry life.
Giving, Contact and the Church's Weekly Rhythm
Calvary receives tithes and offerings in person during the Sunday morning worship service and through online giving. Calvary's week moves from Sunday Scripture study and worship to Wednesday Bible study, prayer and a shared meal, then into children's, youth, men's and women's ministries and mission support beyond Shallotte. At the center remains its stated aim: a rich relationship with Jesus, a warm welcome regardless of a person's past, and making Jesus known through the life of the church.
