A Church on East Main Street in Lincolnton
For nearly two decades, Boger City Baptist Church has gathered on the east side of Lincolnton, North Carolina, at 2201 East Main Street. The church's simple banner - "Jesus is Lord!" - sums up the conviction that has shaped its worship, teaching, and community life since Senior Pastor Bill Bigham arrived in July 2007. The congregation meets three times on Sundays and adds a full evening of Bible study, children's ministry, and youth ministry on Wednesdays, with the church office open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Pastor Bigham, who was called to the gospel ministry at twenty and has also pastored churches in Alabama, describes the people of Boger City Baptist as "a forever family, bound together by God's love and His Word." The church's motto, "Jesus is Lord!," is more than a tagline. It is the confession that runs through every message, hymn, and class on the campus.
Sunday at Boger City Baptist
The Sunday rhythm begins early. An 8:30 a.m. early service opens the day, followed at 9:30 a.m. by Sunday School for every age. The principal morning worship service begins at 10:30 a.m., and a second worship service is held at 6 p.m. The adult choir sings a blend of music across both morning and evening services - "from gospel to contemporary," in the words of the music ministry - and adds special seasonal presentations in the spring and at Christmas.
Before any of these gatherings, a group called Prayer Partners meets at 9 a.m. each Sunday morning to pray for the lost, the ill, and the nation. On Sunday evenings, the Junior Saints children's choir rehearses at 6:15 p.m. in the choir room, the Pee Wee Praise Team meets at 6 p.m., and middle and high school students gather for youth activities at 6 p.m.
Wednesday Evenings: Bible Study, Youth, and AWANA
Wednesday nights are a full evening for the church family. At 6:30 p.m., AWANA clubs for children from birth through fifth grade fill the building, alongside the "Approved Workers Are Not Ashamed" program, which runs through the school year from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The adult Bible study begins at 7 p.m., and the youth group meets at the same hour. The adult choir rehearses at 8 p.m. in preparation for Sunday morning worship.
What the Church Believes
Boger City Baptist Church adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, the doctrinal confession that anchors its teaching. The church's own teaching page on eternal life sets out the gospel it proclaims: that sin separates people from God, that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, died on the cross in the place of sinners, and rose again three days later, and that eternal life is received through repentance, faith in Christ alone, and confession that Jesus is Lord. Baptism follows as a public symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
Membership at Boger City Baptist is open through a profession of faith and baptism, a transfer of letter from another church of like faith and order, or a statement of previous believer's baptism by immersion. Those interested in joining are invited to speak with Pastor Bigham.
Children: AWANA, Children's Church, and Vacation Bible School
Children are central to life at the church. AWANA clubs meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and are organized by age: Puggles for birth through preschool, Cubbies for preschool, Sparks for kindergarten through second grade, and T&T for third through fifth grade. On Sunday mornings, Sunday School is offered at 9:30 a.m. for every age group. During the 10:30 a.m. worship service, care is provided for children from birth through preschool, and children ages four through six are invited to children's church beginning at the offertory.
Each summer, Vacation Bible School draws children from age three through eighth grade, with the program built around a different theme each year. Recent Vacation Bible Schools have included a survey of Revelation, a "Hot Topics" series that paired Bible study with discussion of contemporary questions, and a Doctrines of Grace series on total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and the perseverance of the saints. Online audio from each evening is preserved in the church's audio archive.
Youth Ministry
Middle and high school students form the church's youth ministry, which meets on Sunday mornings for Sunday School, on Sunday evenings for youth activities, and on Wednesday evenings for youth group. Jacob Jenis serves as youth pastor. He grew up in Maryland, attended Slippery Rock University, and saw his faith shaped through the campus ministry Cru and summers of interning for FCA. He and his wife Johanna, who were married in 2021 and welcomed their daughter Lydia in 2026, joined the Boger City staff in 2026.
Summers are an active season for the youth. The group travels to Fort Caswell on Oak Island, North Carolina, for a week of worship, Bible study, and fellowship, and a work-focused mission trip gives students hands-on experience in evangelism and service in their own community.
Music Across the Generations
Music has long been a unifying thread at Boger City Baptist. The adult choir, open to anyone age sixteen and up, rehearses on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. and leads worship in both Sunday services with a blend of gospel and contemporary songs. The Junior Saints Children's Choir, for kindergarten through fifth grade, and the Pee Wee Praise Team give younger singers a place to lead as well, and both present musicals in the spring and at Christmas.
Judi Grice returned to the church as choir director in July 1998, and her roots here go back to her high school years, when she first played the organ at Boger City Baptist. She directs the adult, senior adult, and children's choirs and also leads the church's Senior Adult program, which includes a monthly meeting and luncheon and bus trips to various locations. The Golden Voices, a community choir of senior adults, rehearses on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. in the choir room and presents concerts at local churches and nursing homes in the spring and at Christmas, with a summer break in July and August.
Baptist Men and Baptist Women
The church's men's and women's ministries give adults regular places to connect. Baptist Men share meals together, and Baptist Women host a monthly meal and meeting along with a multiweek Bible study. The women's ministry keeps a Facebook group for updates and ongoing connection, and a women's Bible study is held on Wednesday evenings as part of the church's broader midweek program.
Grief Care
A GriefShare support group meets at the church, offering a thirteen-week program of grief recovery for those who have lost a loved one. The group is part of a national network, and the Boger City gathering is listed in the GriefShare directory.
Live Stream, Video Archive, and Sermon Audio
Worship services are livestreamed on the church's Vimeo channel, with a backup livestream link available on the same page. A video archive keeps past services accessible, and an audio archive of sermons goes back several years.
The depth of the archive is one of the distinguishing features of the church. A complete series on Revelation walks through the book in forty-one messages, with titles ranging from "The Glorified Christ" and "A Glimpse into Glory" to "The Battle of Armageddon," "The 1,000 Years," and a five-part conclusion titled "There's No Place Like Home." A series on the Great Doctrines of the Christian Faith covers the doctrine of God, the doctrine of man, the doctrine of creation, the doctrine of salvation, the doctrine of justification, the doctrine of adoption, the doctrine of hell, the doctrine of resurrection, the doctrine of sanctification, and the eternal security of the believer. A series called "False Teachings of Rome" offers a Baptist critique of Roman Catholic distinctives. A series on the spiritual gifts walks through the New Testament gifts from administration, discernment, and encouragement through teaching, wisdom, and miracles. Most recently, a Doctrines of Grace series covers total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and the perseverance of the saints.
The Pastoral Team
Senior Pastor Bill Bigham has served Boger City Baptist since July 2007. He was called to the gospel ministry at twenty and has also pastored churches in North Carolina and Alabama. He and his wife Suzanne were married in 1988 and adopted their daughter Monica in 1997. In a list of twenty questions posted to the church, Pastor Bigham names Warren Wiersbe as his favorite preacher, John MacArthur as his favorite author, the Gospel of John as his favorite book of the Bible, and eschatology as his favorite area of doctrine to study. He sums up his own testimony with the words: "I never got over the wonder of being saved."
Associate Pastor Charles Inman oversees children, discipleship, and ministry. He moved to Lincolnton in 2007, began attending Boger City Baptist, and surrendered to a call to full-time ministry in 2020, enrolling in Fruitland Baptist Bible College. He was called to the Boger City staff in November 2021.
Judi Grice has served as music director since July 1998 and is the steady thread that ties the music ministry together. Rebeka Mosier serves as church administrator and joined the staff in July 2024 after serving a Presbyterian church in Lake Wylie, South Carolina. She grew up in Nigeria as the child of missionaries, attended Houghton College in western New York, and worked for ten years providing activities for seniors in care facilities before earning a second degree in graphic design.
Planning a Visit
Visitors are welcome at every service. There are marked visitor parking spaces near the welcome center; the building is entered through the portico, where greeters can answer questions and help families find their way. Sunday School is offered for all ages at 9:30 a.m., and nursery care is provided for children from birth through preschool during the 10:30 a.m. worship service, with children's church available for ages four through six beginning at the offertory. Guests are invited to fill out a guest card found in the welcome brochure in the back of each pew and return it in the offering plate or at the welcome center. Arriving ten to fifteen minutes before a service is plenty of time. Dress is informal: "Come as you are! Let simple modesty be your guide." Pastor Bigham greets guests after the service in the welcome center.
Giving and Staying Connected
Online giving is available through the church's Engage Giving platform, with tutorial videos posted to walk first-time givers through the process. Members and regular attenders can keep their contact information up to date through an online form. The church's Facebook page and a members' Facebook group, along with a Google Calendar, keep the congregation aware of upcoming activities throughout the week. Prayer requests can be sent to prayer@bogercitybaptist.org, and the church office can be reached at (704) 735-5642 or office@bogercitybaptist.org.
