On Jacksonville's Westside, West Meadows Baptist Church centers its ministry on the Gospel of Jesus. The church teaches Scripture clearly, places a priority on congregational singing, and seeks to let church life spill into the community. Its regular rhythm includes Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and Morning Service at 10:30 a.m., plus Wednesday activities for children and adults.
Teach, Live, Love and Share
West Meadows describes its ministry through four commitments rooted in the Gospel:
- Teach: The Word of God is a priority, and the church strives to teach the Gospel clearly and regularly from the whole counsel of Scripture.
- Live: The life of the church is intended to spill over into the life of the community.
- Love: The church wants every person who connects with West Meadows to fall in love with the Gospel of Jesus.
- Share: Every believer is to be equipped to share the good news of the Bible.
Sunday: Learning and Congregational Worship
Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m., and Morning Service begins at 10:30 a.m. The morning service is livestreamed through YouTube. The Word of God is central to the services, and the church preaches out of the KJV while saying that other versions are acceptable and encouraged. Music brings together old and new hymns, with a priority placed on congregational singing. The church's prayer is that the Lord would be glorified and that worshippers would leave feeling encouraged and strengthened by the grace of God.
Attire is treated as secondary to comfort. The overall atmosphere is business casual, and visitors may wear anything from jeans to suits.
Children From Nursery Through Choir
A full nursery is provided during all service times for children ages 0-3. Courteous nursery workers provide what the church describes as a safe, clean environment. On Sunday mornings, children age 4 and up attend the worship service and are then dismissed after the music portion for children's church in the childcare building.
Wednesday's Kids 4 Truth gathering for ages 4-12 begins at 6:00 p.m., while Children's Choir for the same age range meets at 5:30 p.m. Nursery care is also available on Wednesday.
Wednesday Evenings for Prayer and Youth
At 6:00 p.m., adults gather for the Adult Prayer Meeting while young people ages 13-18 meet for D3 Youth. These gatherings run alongside the Wednesday children's programs, giving the church a regular midweek rhythm of prayer, music and age-specific gatherings.
Creation, the Fall and the Redeemer
West Meadows' Gospel teaching begins with creation: God made the heavens and earth in six days, and what he created was perfect and in harmony with him. Adam and Eve's disobedience brought sin and death into the world, a condition the Bible calls the Fall. Through Israel's history, God promised a redeemer, and he sent Jesus, who was God made flesh and lived without sin. Jesus died on the cross as the sacrifice needed to cover sin, then rose from the dead on the third day.
The church teaches that receiving the gift of grace requires recognizing sin, repenting of it, believing that Christ is the only one who can save, and trusting God with one's life. It says that no skill, heritage, brilliance, ability or self-rooted effort can save a person from God's judgment.
Mission at the Center of Giving
West Meadows wants the life of the church to spill into the community and wants each believer equipped to share the good news of the Bible. Its ministry and mission are at the center of Christian giving. People can give in person, through a secure online giving portal, or by texting any dollar amount to 84321. At West Meadows Baptist Church, teaching the Gospel, worshiping together, caring for children, sharing faith and serving the community remain central to the church's life.
