Valleyview Church of the Nazarene on South Western Street in Amarillo is known for pairing Sunday and Wednesday gatherings with practical care for local families. Its food pantry serves about 150 families each month, and its clothing boutique distributes hundreds of pounds of clothing, making community assistance a defining part of the church's rhythm alongside worship and fellowship.
A Faith Identity Rooted in the Apostles' Creed
Valleyview's faith commitments begin with Christian faith and the Apostles' Creed. The church seeks holiness through Christ's transformation, follows Jesus, nurtures spiritual growth and serves others with compassion. It places that identity within the Nazarene denomination and gives it a practical direction through spiritual and community missions. Its stated aim is to share Christ's love with the community and fulfill the Great Commission through ministry close to home and around the world.
That combination of belief and service is visible in the church's regular life. Sunday worship and Bible study gather the community, while a meal, small groups, children's and youth activities, and monthly assistance offer ways to belong and serve. Valleyview also maintains named ministries for children, youth, college students and adults, along with life groups and missions.
Sunday School at 9:45 and Worship at 10:45
The Sunday rhythm begins with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., followed by worship at 10:45 a.m. Valleyview Kids uses the 9:45 gathering for its Sunday program. These gatherings are described as meaningful worship and fellowship.
- Sunday at 9:45 a.m.: Sunday School, including Valleyview Kids.
- Sunday at 10:45 a.m.: Sunday worship.
- Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.: Small groups, Bible studies, and children's and youth activities.
Recent services are available through Valleyview's recent-services collection, and a video service archive is maintained on YouTube. Sermon-series resources draw on biblical books and themes. These materials extend access to the church's messages beyond the gathered Sunday morning worship.
A Shared Meal Before Wednesday Small Groups
Wednesday begins with a shared meal at 6:00 p.m. Small groups and Bible studies meet at 6:30 p.m. The meal comes before the group gathering and is a regular part of the evening rhythm, giving families and other participants a common starting point for the week's activities.
Children's and youth activities also take place at 6:30 p.m. Valleyview's youth program combines fun, fellowship and faith-building activities during its weekly gatherings, while the Wednesday small groups provide a distinct time for Bible study and group fellowship.
Valleyview Kids and Youth Build Faith Together
Valleyview Kids gathers for Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and again on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Valleyview Youth serves students in grades 6 through 12 and meets on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
The youth mission is to help students discover God's purpose for their lives, grow in faith and build lifelong relationships. Valleyview approaches that mission through engaging activities, spiritual learning and community support. For younger children, the church provides Sunday School and a dedicated Wednesday gathering, while the youth ministry gives older students regular opportunities for fellowship and faith-building.
Monthly Food Pantry and Clothing Boutique
On the second Saturday of every month, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Valleyview's food pantry and clothing boutique serve clients at the church. Guests enter through the southeast doors. The pantry supports local families with food, while the clothing boutique distributes clothing to people in need. Valleyview reports serving around 150 families with food each month and giving out hundreds of pounds of clothing each month.
Families may be served once each month. On the first visit of each calendar year, guests are asked to bring a photo ID, know the birthdays of every member of the household and provide proof of residency. Families must recertify each year. The recurring second-Saturday schedule makes both food support and clothing aid regular ministries rather than single distributions.
Valleyview's Network of Ministry Leaders
Lead Pastor Brandon Yarbrough serves as spiritual guide and community leader. Abbey Yarbrough directs children's ministry with an emphasis on nurturing the next generation. Josh Dolezal serves as 3M Director for Music, Media & Maintenance, and AJ Lard serves as a ministry intern connected with youth. Pam Deeds leads the missions emphasis as Missions President. Their roles cover pastoral leadership, children's formation, music and media, maintenance, youth support and missions.
Life Groups, College Connection and Recorded Services
Life groups meet on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m., alongside Bible studies and other small groups. College students also have a named place in Valleyview's ministry structure. In addition to these in-person gatherings, Valleyview offers recent services, a service archive and a YouTube channel for viewing recorded church services and sermon material.
Missions and Faith Partners Near and Far
Valleyview supports ministries within its own walls, just around the corner and around the world. Rescue Hill, Cactus Ministries and the High Plains Food Bank are among its faith partners. Missions President Pam Deeds leads the church's missions emphasis, described as spreading Christ's love through missions and sharing the Gospel near and far.
Giving supports tithes and offerings, Faith Promise and special ministries. Separate giving choices also support the food pantry, children's ministry, youth ministry and adult ministry. The available options reflect the local, congregational and worldwide mission priorities that Valleyview names throughout its ministry life.
