Bowing to Christ, Rising to Serve Him
Union Presbyterian Church of Los Altos stands on University Avenue in Los Altos, California, with the simple motto "Bowing to Christ, Rising to Serve Him." The congregation is a member of the Evangelical Covenant Order of Presbyterians and centers its life around Scripture, worship, and service in the surrounding community.
Sunday Mornings on University Avenue
The Sunday rhythm opens with Bible study at 8:45 am, where adults work through a book of the Bible together, currently The Book of Revelation. Worship follows at 10:00 am and is led by Pastor David Moore, who preaches regularly through books of the Bible such as a recent series on the Acts of the Apostles. Services are livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel, and closed captioning is added about five hours after the original broadcast. Past services and sermon notes remain available online for anyone who wants to follow along later in the week. Office hours run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the church calendar can be subscribed to through Google Calendar or Outlook.
Kids Place and the Hallelujah Choir
Children have a busy corner of the church through Kids Place, which provides Bible lessons, devotions, coloring pages, word searches, and a children's journal throughout the week. The Hallelujah Kid's Choir gives young singers a regular musical outlet. Julie Conde oversees the children and youth ministry, and a Connection Card is available online for families wanting to learn more.
Adults: Community Groups, Walking Together, and Care
Beyond Sunday worship, the church offers a range of small-group and adult discipleship opportunities. Community Groups meet for shared study and fellowship in homes and on Zoom, while Interest Groups form around shared hobbies or concerns. A Walking Group gathers members for regular exercise around the neighborhood. An ESL program offers English language classes for neighbors, and Stephen Ministry provides one-to-one Christian care for people facing difficult seasons such as illness, grief, or job loss. An Encouragement ministry rounds out that work with cards, calls, and other practical support.
Outreach Across Los Altos and Beyond
Service to neighbors is a major part of the church's identity. The congregation partners with Help One Child to support children at risk, backs Young Life in the area, and contributes to Real Options and City Team Ministries in San Jose. Operation Christmas Child is a yearly shoebox packing project, with online giving available. Food drives, an e-waste collection, and a long-running relationship with the Community Services Agency extend care to those in need, and the church supports the chaplaincy program at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. An Alcoholics Anonymous group meets on the church campus, and University Oaks Preschool operates out of the building, extending the church's reach into daily family life.
What Union Presbyterian Believes
As a congregation of the Evangelical Covenant Order of Presbyterians, Union Presbyterian holds to a Reformed understanding of the Christian faith. The church's own statement is concise: it seeks to be a place where people build a strong personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, form lasting and encouraging relationships with one another, and glorify God through worship, actions, and love for others. Giving is available online for those who wish to support its ministry and outreach across the peninsula.
