Trinity Lutheran Church serves Oregon City from 16000 S Henrici Rd. Founded in 1921 and based on Henrici Road since 2001, it is known for relaxed blended worship and for a congregation that sees itself as a large extended family, with ministries for children, youth, adults and seniors.
A Century on Henrici Road
Serving God and Oregon City since 1921 is Trinity's motto. The church began in downtown Oregon City in 1921 and moved to its Henrici Road location in 2001. Trinity sees its people as a large extended family. Its aim is to be a united vital force in the community sharing the love of Jesus.
Sunday Worship at 10:15
Sunday worship begins at 10:15 a.m. at 16000 S Henrici Rd, Oregon City, OR 97045. Sunday School for all ages begins at 8:45 a.m. Trinity calls its regular worship blended, combining traditional hymns with contemporary songs and using a variety of instruments. The third Sunday of each month is Contemporary Worship.
Holy Communion is celebrated on the second, fourth and fifth Sundays, giving the congregation at least two Communion Sundays each month and three in a five-Sunday month. The church understands worship as singing praise, receiving forgiveness, hearing God's Word and applying it to life.
Visitors can expect a relaxed atmosphere and pretty casual dress. Children are encouraged to participate in worship, and Trinity keeps the service simple without stage lights, smoke or a performance format. A coffee social follows Sunday worship. Special midweek evening services also focus on Thanksgiving, Advent, Lent and Holy Week.
Trinity livestreams Sunday worship and keeps archived worship messages available on Facebook.
Faith Alone, Grace Alone, Scripture Alone, Christ Alone
Trinity is part of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The LCMS teaches the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human, suffered and died for human sin and rose to life again; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and sacraments. The three persons are coequal and coeternal, one God.
- Faith alone: Jesus' suffering and death purchased forgiveness and eternal life for all people. Those who hear and believe have the eternal life it offers, and God creates faith in Christ.
- Christ alone: God reveals himself ultimately through Jesus, and saving and transforming knowledge of God comes through him.
- Grace alone: God loves people who are sinful and rebel against him, and he sent Jesus to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
- Scripture alone: The Bible is God's inerrant and infallible Word and the sole rule and norm for Christian doctrine.
- Soli Deo Gloria: Glory belongs to God alone and is the central motivation for salvation.
Trinity understands the Lord's Supper as receiving the body and blood of Jesus in, with and under the bread and wine for forgiveness of sins and strengthening of faith.
Children Take Part in the Whole Church
Trinity sees children as a gift from God and involves them in worship through reading Scripture, collecting offerings and lighting candles. Families are encouraged to worship together so children learn what it means to worship God from an early age. The congregation's willingness to let children move through the aisles or dance is part of its relaxed family life.
Sunday School gathers all ages at 8:45 a.m. Vacation Bible School is held every summer and remains one of Trinity's most important annual ministries, supported by many volunteers who teach, assist, provide meals, decorate, offer technical support and help with the program.
Listening, Applying and Leading
Trinity offers Bible studies throughout the year. Some classes meet at church, while others take place in people's homes in small-group settings. Its discipleship journey is guided by two questions: Listen: What is God saying to me? and Apply: What am I going to do about it? Trinity intentionally trains leaders who then train others to lead.
The youth gather weekly for Bible study, fun and friendship. Prayer, personal application of God's Word and service in the community are central to their time together.
Quilters, Seniors and Monday Night Volleyball
Trinity Quilters meet on the first and third Tuesdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Quilters Room. They make quilts for local charities and baptisms while sharing ideas and fellowship. Experienced quilters assist newcomers, and materials, kits, machines and tools are available for those who do not bring their own.
Senior Life gives older adults places in Bible study, outreach and internal service. The gymnasium also opens on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. for free community volleyball, with no experience or team membership required.
Serving Oregon City and Clackamas County
Trinity provides a monthly outreach meal service at a homeless shelter in Oregon City. It also maintains relationships with social organizations focused on homeless youth, single mothers and low-income families in Clackamas County. Local partners include The Father's Heart Oregon City, The Inn, Love INC, Backpack Buddies and Transition Projects of Portland.
Giving Back to God is part of Trinity's worship. Tithes and offerings can be given online or placed in offering baskets during worship. Volunteer work includes helping with children or students, greeting visitors, making coffee, working in the sound booth, helping with bulletins, quilting and serving through outreach activities.
Gym, Kitchen, Trails and Early Learning
Trinity's facilities include a large gymnasium, a commercial kitchen and newly created walking trails. The church considers requests to rent its spaces for events.
Sunshine Early Learning Center serves children from six weeks through age 12 with infant care, preschool and before-school and after-school programs. Educators support growth through age-appropriate learning experiences that encourage curiosity and creativity. The Preschool Promise program is free for qualifying families, and the center accepts ERDC in its other classrooms.
At Trinity, simple worship, Word and sacrament, learning across the generations and practical service remain joined in the life of one large extended family.
