On a wooded stretch of Cartwright Road in Missouri City, Texas, St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal Church serves the Sienna area of Fort Bend County. Part of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, the parish offers liturgical worship, a parish school, and a wide range of ministries for every age.
Sunday Worship and the Livestream
The Sunday rhythm at St. Catherine of Sienna is built around two morning services. Holy Eucharist is offered at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with the later service also livestreamed on YouTube. Recordings are posted to a YouTube channel, and a Facebook page carries the 10:30 a.m. service as well. The congregation worships from the Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal 1982, and the music program offers a variety of musical expressions and forms.
An Episcopal Identity
The parish describes itself in four ways. It is a community of worship that expresses and deepens faith in Jesus Christ through the richness of liturgical worship. It is a community of faith that welcomes everyone and nurtures a living faith through instruction, friendship, reflection, and shared ministry. It is a community that embraces children and youth, leading them to follow the example of Jesus Christ through worship, biblical study, fellowship, and service to others. And it is a community that invites new faces to come as they are and promises to make them feel at home.
The Parish School
St. Catherine of Sienna Episcopal School (SCES) shares the life of the parish. The school is woven into the broader congregation through Vacation Bible School, seasonal events, and family gatherings, and many parish families first connect with St. Catherine through the school.
Ministries for Every Age
Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings for the youngest members. Sunday School classes gather for children from kindergarten through high school, and an Adult Sunday School meets at the same hour. Older adults come together in SCS 50+, a fellowship group for the parish's senior members. Four13Teens is the youth ministry for middle and high schoolers, with regular events and service opportunities. Episcopal Church Women (ECW) gathers the women of the parish for service, fellowship, and an annual retreat, while the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, Daughters of the King, and a Men's Group with its own annual retreat offer parallel fellowship and study for men and women. A Couples Ministry also supports marriages and committed couples.
Mission Outreach
Outreach is a central part of parish life. Lunches of Love prepares meals for neighbors in need. Families Helping Families supports local households in crisis, and an International Mission outreach extends the parish's care beyond Missouri City. The Pumpkin Patch brings the community together each fall as a seasonal fundraiser. A Prayer Blanket Ministry offers hand-made blankets to those in need of comfort, and the Helping Hearts circle of ECW extends additional support to those facing hardship.
Bible Studies and Adult Faith
Adults at St. Catherine of Sienna have several ways to grow in faith. Bible Studies include a Bible Tasting and Wine Study, Group Prayer Meetings, and a Spirituality Book Study. Adult Faith Formation offers further programming throughout the year. The Petal Pushers tend the parish grounds and gardens as a quiet ministry of beauty.
