About Spring Glen United Methodist

A Beacon on Beach Boulevard Since 1902

Spring Glen Methodist Church has stood at 6007 Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville since 1902, when a small congregation first claimed this corner with what it describes as a passion to reach people far from God. More than a century later, the present-day members carry that same passion into a neighborhood congregation that calls itself a beacon of hope where the light of Christ shines. The church's stated mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, carried out through sharing, glorifying, uniting, ministering and connecting.

Spring Glen identifies with the Global Methodist Church and takes that identity to heart. Its ministry page declares, just as Jesus served the ordinary everyday person, follower or not, we are here to serve you and the community, no strings attached. That posture has shaped everything from the church's long-running school partnership to its open-table Communion and come-as-you-are dress code.

Sunday Morning Worship

Sunday morning centers on a single worship service held in the sanctuary at 10:30 AM. The hour includes singing, a sermon, and a time of fellowship that flows into a carry-in luncheon in Warren Hall, where everyone cooks and brings their favorite dishes for all to share. Guests are explicitly welcome at the table.

Holy Communion is observed on the second Sunday of each month in Warren Hall. All are welcome to receive the sacrament. Before the service, adult and children's Bible study classes meet at 9:30 AM. The adult classes offer different teaching styles to choose from, and the children's classes are age appropriate, combining for special studies during Lent and Advent. The curriculum is always Bible-based.

Visitors are told plainly: no need to dress fancy, just come as you are and be yourself. Spring Glen is a judgment-free zone, grounded in James 4:11. Anyone who walks through the doors is family.

Nurturing Children and Youth

Children are woven into the Sunday rhythm from birth through fifth grade. The nursery is staffed during worship for children from birth to age 5, with caregivers who have all gone through background screenings and training. Children's Church gathers kids ages 5 to 10 immediately following the Children's Message for a Bible lesson, activities, music, and sometimes a short drama, giving them a worship experience sized for their attention span.

Rosy Artvia serves as the Educational Leader for Children and Youth, also directing Sunday School. Her goal is that every child who walks through the doors feels welcomed, valued, and encouraged to build a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, nurtured through Bible lessons, worship, prayer, and fellowship. Danila Santiago leads the nursery. The children's wing operates with background checks on every leader and cameras in every room where children gather.

A youth group extends the same care to middle and high school students, while the Ladies Bible Study, P.U.S.H. Ministry, and Methodist Women circles round out opportunities for older disciples.

Music That Lifts the Sanctuary

Music is a weekly highlight. The choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:30 and presents special music in the service each week. Alongside the choir is a praise team with guitars and a drummer, and soloists who offer their gifts in song. The blend gives Spring Glen a worship style that draws from both traditional and contemporary streams, with space for the choir's classic offerings and the praise team's fuller band sound.

Weekday Groups and Bible Studies

Life at Spring Glen continues through the week. The Wednesday Life Group meets at 10:30 AM in Warren Hall, an open group led by the pastor where members confess their sins to one another and pray for one another. On Thursday evenings at 6:30, the Men's Life Group gathers in a room called Sacred Grounds, a discipleship group led by Paul Meister that focuses on growing a personal relationship with Christ. On Tuesdays at 5:30 PM, the Ladies Bible Study meets via Zoom, supporting the church in all areas and growing biblically for the work of the Lord. The P.U.S.H. Ministry - Pray Until Something Happens - meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM at Sacred Grounds, a gathering of women on fire for God whose love for the Lord and discipleship is contagious.

Methodist Women meets the third Sunday of the month following worship, turning faith, hope and love into action for women, children and youth locally and around the world. Methodist Men, meanwhile, host the church's Fish Fry and lend hands wherever needed, from painting members' homes to cutting down trees after storms.

Serving Jacksonville Schools

Outreach at Spring Glen runs deep into the neighborhood through one relationship in particular: Hogan Spring Glen Elementary School. The church has worked with the school since 2006. Volunteers serve in classrooms each week, classroom supplies are provided twice a year, teachers are treated to appreciation luncheons both at the church and at the school, and the church shares its facilities for musical concerts. Kindergarten and fifth-grade graduation ceremonies are celebrated together, and an annual undie Sunday collects needed items for the school clinic.

Blessings in a Backpack is the church's signature food outreach, partnering with Hogan Spring Glen Elementary to send food home on weekends for elementary children who might otherwise go hungry. Methodist Women extend the church's reach further still, supporting Pregnancy Crisis Centers, the Ronald McDonald House, and local Developmental Learning Centers across the greater Jacksonville area.

The Team Behind the Mission

Pastor Curtiss Cain leads the congregation, preaching on Sunday and guiding the Wednesday Life Group. Jacqueline Taylor has served as the church's Administrative Assistant since 2005 and sees her work as a ministry. Brandon Austin handles technical and audio-visual support, making sure the cameras, projectors and sound work their best for both in-person worship and the livestream on Facebook. Cathy Dixon leads streaming support, a Jacksonville native and Englewood High School graduate who joined Spring Glen in 2009 and helped move the broadcast from cell phones to a full computer setup.

Every Sunday, the service is livestreamed to Facebook, and previous services remain available there for anyone who wants to catch up or revisit a sermon. Giving is handled online through the church's Realm page. Visitors are welcome to drop in at 6007 Beach Boulevard any Sunday at 10:30 AM, with doors open and the table set.
