A Spirit-Filled Church in the Wesleyan Tradition
Springs Journey Church is a Spirit-filled, family-friendly congregation that calls the west side of Colorado Springs home. Meeting at 1250 Vondelpark Drive, the church has grown into a warm, diverse community where people of all backgrounds are invited to encounter Jesus, walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, and find genuine belonging.
The church is grounded in the Holiness movement of the Wesleyan tradition and joyfully embraces the gifts and presence of the Holy Spirit. Pastors Jeff and Carol Sherrill describe their community as one that honors both the power and the purity of the Spirit, "not elevating one over the other, but walking in balance and truth."
What the Church Believes
Springs Journey's beliefs are rooted in the truth of Scripture and shaped by its Wesleyan foundation. Four values shape the life of the church: honoring God's presence, living in victory, developing gifts, and walking together in community. Each value is anchored in a passage of Scripture, from Psalm 16:11's promise that God makes known the path of life, to Hebrews 10:24-25's call to spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Core beliefs include the Trinity, the Bible as the inspired and authoritative Word of God, salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, the deity and saving work of Jesus Christ, the present ministry and empowering of the Holy Spirit, the ongoing work of holiness as a journey of grace and spiritual growth, the Church as the Body of Christ, and the promise of eternal life with Christ. As part of the Wesleyan Church, Springs Journey upholds the message of holiness as a daily journey of surrender rather than religious perfection, marked by love, freedom, victory over sin, and service to others.
Sunday Mornings at 10
Services take place every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. and last about ninety minutes. The morning begins with contemporary worship led by the Springs Journey Worship Team, followed by a Bible-based message that is practical, encouraging, and open to the Holy Spirit's leading. After the service, there is time to mingle, meet others, and be prayed for.
Plenty of free parking is available on site. Fresh coffee and bagels are served before the service, so arriving a few minutes early is a good way to settle in. There is no dress code. The church family is laid-back, and people who dress up and people who keep it casual all fit right in. The greeting team is ready to welcome first-time visitors from the moment they walk through the doors, ready to answer questions, offer directions, or simply offer a friendly hello.
Journey Kids
Families are warmly welcomed at Springs Journey. Children are welcome in the main service, or they can join Journey Kids, an age-appropriate children's program that runs during the service. Journey Kids welcomes babies, toddlers, and grade-schoolers into rooms outfitted with fun, safe, and comfortable surroundings.
The children's time includes music, Bible teaching for their age level, and fun and games. The Journey Kids staff are dedicated, background-checked individuals who love teaching kids about Jesus. Security cameras are in each classroom, and main classroom entrances are locked during the service. Parents are required to check in and check out their children.
Pastors Jeff and Carol Sherrill
Jeff and Carol Sherrill serve as lead pastors of Springs Journey Church. Both U.S. Air Force veterans, they have lived in five countries and seven states, gaining a deep love for people from all walks of life. Married for more than 38 years, they have served together in many ministry roles over the years, from youth and associate pastors to senior pastors of a church they planted in California.
They joined Springs Journey in March 2016. Jeff served as an assistant pastor at Springs Journey for four years before he and Carol became lead pastors in August 2022. Together, they are passionate about helping God's people live in victory, developing the gifts God has placed within them, honoring God's presence, and fostering authentic community among His people. They have two daughters who are faithfully serving God in various capacities.
Walking Through Life Together
Springs Journey's Banding Together Discipleship and Bible Study groups meet on various days and times throughout the week. These intentionally small community groups exist to dive deeper into God's Word, build relationships, grow spiritually, and support one another.
Women's Prayer meets on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., offering a dedicated time of prayer and fellowship in an open, honest, and safe atmosphere. Men's Fellowship gathers quarterly at various locations from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., giving guys a chance to connect, build friendships, and encourage one another in faith and life. MomCo, a gathering for moms of littles up to preschool age and for expecting moms, meets on the third Saturday of every month from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Springs Journey. MomCo includes sharing mom life, receiving wisdom from Mentor Moms, eating good food, and enjoying a fun activity. Childcare is always provided.
Reaching Beyond Colorado Springs
Springs Journey partners with missionaries and ministries who bring the hope of Jesus to people in every nation and walk of life. Jack Olafson serves as a chaplain ministering to youth offenders in Cañon City, Colorado, sharing the message of Jesus, discipling new believers, and walking with those discovering hope and transformation behind prison walls. His ministry can be supported through the New Horizons Foundation.
Chris and Wendy England live and serve in Croatia, helping people encounter the transforming power of Jesus through relationship building, connecting believers, and equipping others to grow and step into their God-given callings. Mike and Margi Klausmeier produced videos together with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) for nearly 30 years until Mike's passing in January 2026. Margi continues to serve in what is now called Organic Missions as a missions mobilizer, ministering to Muslim women around the world. Members can give through Springs Journey and designate their gift toward missions to support these partners, and they are encouraged to reach out personally with encouragement and prayer.
Joining a Team
There are several ways to serve at Springs Journey Church. The Worship Team leads times of praise and creates space for people to encounter God together. The Hospitality and Welcome team serves coffee and bagels, greets people, and helps things run smoothly. The Tech Team supports worship and teaching through sound, lighting, and visuals, with training provided for those wanting to learn. The Greeter Team is the frontline that welcomes every visitor and attendee and helps them feel at home. Those interested can connect through the church for details on how to get involved.
