A South Bay Church with a Diverse Family
South Bay Community Church meets at 1055 Tierra Del Rey, Suite A, in Chula Vista, drawing people from across the South Bay region of San Diego County. Its motto - Real People, Real Faith, Real Life - sets the tone for a church that welcomes individuals of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, a reflection of the diverse population of the area. The church's aim is to seek and worship God as it serves the community around it: leading the lost to find Jesus, helping the young develop in Christ, and helping the mature grow in faith.
Fellowship here is built on walking through life together, supporting one another through ups and downs, celebrating joys, and growing side by side. People come as they are and find a family ready to walk with them wherever they are on their journey.
Sunday Mornings at Nine
Services begin at 9:00 AM each Sunday. The atmosphere is relaxed, and dress ranges from jeans and t-shirts to business-casual attire. Worship opens with a blend of contemporary songs and timeless hymns, with room to sing along, clap, or simply listen and reflect. A Bible-based message follows, taught in a way that aims to make God's Word relevant to everyday life and to help listeners grow in their understanding and relationship with God. Before and after the service, coffee is available and a welcome team is ready to answer questions and help newcomers get connected.
Seven Core Values
The church organizes its ministry around seven values, each grounded in a passage of Scripture:
- Prayer - "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you." (Jeremiah 29:12)
- Worship - "Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him." (1 Chronicles 16:29)
- Discipleship - "Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ." (Colossians 1:28)
- Service - "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace." (1 Peter 4:10)
- Unity - "Complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind." (Philippians 2:2)
- Teaching - "Devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching." (1 Timothy 4:13)
- Evangelism - "Do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry." (2 Timothy 4:5)
Watching and Staying in Touch
Services are broadcast live online, and a complete archive of recent messages is available on the church's YouTube channel. Online giving is also available. For ongoing connection, updates are shared on Instagram and Facebook, and a Connect card is available online for visitors wanting to stay in touch.
Next Steps and the Dream Team
Two pathways are highlighted for anyone wanting to go deeper. Baptism is offered as the public confession of faith by immersion in water, symbolizing the death of an old life and the beginning of a new one. For those wanting to use their gifts, the Dream Team offers a way to serve in the church community. Both are open to anyone ready to take the next step.
Pastors and Deacons
William Frye serves as Lead Pastor, with Maddi Frye as Executive Pastor. Ricky Feria and Kevin Lane serve as Teaching Pastors. Three deacons - Dayne Dolfo, Mike Garcia, and Mike Kellerman - support the work of the church alongside a broader pastoral team.
