Two Services, One Sanctuary in Swisher
Shueyville Church sits on Steeple Lane NE in Swisher, a small town just north of Cedar Rapids in Johnson County. The congregation describes itself as "united by the love of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit," and Pastor Nick Grove preaches at both Sunday services.
Sunday mornings begin with a choice. At 8:00 AM, the sanctuary fills with piano-led hymns, the Apostles' Creed, prayer, announcements, and a sermon from Pastor Nick Grove. At 10:00 AM, the same pastor leads a blended service that mixes hymns with contemporary music from the worship band. The 10:00 hour is also the only service with nursery care and Sunday School, making it the practical pick for families with young children.
Exit 10: Wednesday Nights for Grades 7-12
The youth ministry at Shueyville is called Exit 10, and it meets three Wednesdays a month. The evening follows a familiar rhythm: a 6:00 free-will donation dinner, a 6:30 time of worship and message, and small groups at 7:45. Students in grades 7 through 12 are welcome. The program has an Instagram presence at @exityouthgroup, and the church highlights Exit 10 as a place where students "hold tightly to Christ-centered relationships" while navigating the teen years. One current high-schooler put it this way: "Exit 10 has allowed me to grow my relationship with Christ while being surrounded by great people in fellowship."
Shueyville Kids: Sunday School and Wednesday Bible Study
Children from age 3 through 5th grade have a place in the 10:00 Sunday School. Parents check kids in at the lobby station, and the children are brought back upstairs near the end of the service. On three Wednesday evenings a month, Shueyville Kids offers a lesson and activity for children age 3 (potty trained) through 6th grade from 6:30 to 7:30. A free-will donation family dinner runs from 6:00 to 6:30 for anyone who wants to eat first. The children's wing was recently renovated, with new classrooms designed for the age groups.
Nursery at the 10:00 Service
A nursery is available every Sunday at the 10:00 service. It is located upstairs, across from the sanctuary, and was recently redone. Parents can register children through the church's online center.
Worship Online and a Weekly Newsletter
Both services are livestreamed on the church's Facebook page, and the latest sermon series is archived under the name "One More" on the church's online center. A weekly email, The Shueyville Dove, shares news, events, and sign-ups for newcomers.
Get Involved: Groups, Volunteers, and Missions
Shueyville Church runs a discipleship and missions team that works alongside outside partners, including All God's Children, a children's ministry supported by the congregation. The church welcomes new members and offers baptism to people of all ages. Volunteer roles range from greeting at the door and singing with the choir to running the livestream and helping lead children's classes. Small groups meet around the area for fellowship and study.
