Second Baptist Church: One Church Across Conway and Greenbrier

Baptist Church in Conway, Arkansas

Second Baptist Church is a multi-campus Southern Baptist church with locations in Conway and Greenbrier, Arkansas, offering weekly worship gatherings, kids and student ministries, a weekday preschool, small groups, mission partnerships, and a seminary certificate program.

About Second Baptist Church

Second Baptist Church, known to its members simply as the 2ND Family, sits at 2600 Dave Ward Drive on the west side of Conway, Arkansas, and meets again on Sunday mornings at Herschel Hall on South Broadview in nearby Greenbrier. From those two campuses the same pastor preaches the same gospel to congregations that share one mission, one budget, and one set of beliefs, and that come together for camps, mission trips, worship nights, and special events. Visitors who step onto either campus will find a church that talks about itself as a family first and a place to attend second.

Two Campuses, One Church

Second Baptist describes its Conway and Greenbrier campuses as two hands of the same body. Same mission, same beliefs, same leadership, same commitment to biblical preaching and worship, and one combined annual budget that funds both. Each location has the freedom to minister in ways that fit its own community, which is why Conway offers three Sunday morning services and Greenbrier offers two, and why the children's programs at the two campuses look slightly different even though they share a curriculum.

The Conway campus sits at 2600 Dave Ward Drive, with entrances from Farris Road and Dave Ward Drive and additional parking on the north side of the main building. Visitors can drop passengers under the awning at the front doors. The Greenbrier campus meets at Herschel Hall, 112 South Broadview, Greenbrier, with parking in front of the building and drop-off access at the doors. Both campuses maintain an up-to-date plan-a-visit page with directions and a contact form for newcomers.

What to Expect on Sunday

The Conway campus gathers at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 AM on Sunday mornings, with small groups meeting at the same hours. The Greenbrier campus meets at 9:00 and 10:30 AM, with small groups meeting at various times and locations throughout the week. Worship at both locations runs about an hour to an hour and ten minutes and follows a familiar pattern: coffee is available before the gathering; the service opens with music; a sermon drawn from the Bible follows; and the benediction sends people out to live the rest of their Sunday.

Visitors are encouraged to come early for coffee and to wear whatever is comfortable. The music is a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary songs, and the people on stage lead the congregation in praise together. Sermons are taught in series that move through books of the Bible over weeks or months, and each message weaves in personal stories to make the text accessible. New guests can fill out a connect card during or after the service to let the church know how to pray for them.

Kids and the Preschool at 2ND

Children are a central part of the 2ND Family. The Kids Ministry serves children from birth through fifth grade in a safe, age-appropriate environment with secure check-in and certified leaders. Preschoolers (birth through Kindergarten) enjoy games, crafts, and Bible stories that introduce them to Jesus. At Conway, kids in first through fifth grade attend worship with their adults and then check in for grade-level small groups at 9:30 or 11 AM; at Greenbrier, kids check in at the 2ND Space and engage in large-group worship followed by small groups specific to their grade.

Families visiting for the first time fill out a KidMin form so leaders can account for any food allergies, learning differences, or circumstances at home. The Preschool at 2ND extends the church into the weekday life of the community, offering early childhood education for ages six weeks through pre-K. The preschool follows a two-part program of cognitive concepts and biblical curriculum, with weekly Music Bible classes for twos and older. School meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, September through May, following the Conway Public Schools calendar. Monthly tuition is $425 per child with a 10% sibling discount and a $150 non-refundable enrollment fee; applications are submitted online, and the preschool does not accept vouchers.

Students and College

2ND Students covers sixth through twelfth grade at both locations. At Conway, small groups gather in the Student Center at 9:30 AM, where adult leaders walk students through Scripture and teach them to apply it to daily life, and the students then attend the 11 AM worship service in the main building. Wednesday nights at Conway open the Student Center doors at 5:30 PM for games and hangout time, with the service beginning at 6 PM and breaking into discussion groups afterward. At Greenbrier, students meet on Wednesday nights at 6 PM in Herschel Hall. Both campuses keep parents and students in the loop through a text-based update system and Instagram accounts.

The college ministry gathers each Thursday night in the Conway main building. A free dinner starts at 6:30 PM, followed by worship at 7 PM and a hangout after the service. On Sundays, college students worship with the rest of the church at 9:30 AM and then head to the Student Center at 11 AM for small group time and either breakfast or lunch. The ministry exists in part because the church hosts more than 400 college students each week through its ministries.

Wednesday Nights Around the Table

Wednesday nights at Second Baptist, branded as MDWK, are the church's midweek gathering point and run as a coordinated program across both campuses. Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade meet in The Studio at Conway under the banner 2ND Kids Live, with games, Scripture and books-of-the-Bible memory challenges, and a Christ-centered lesson, while children in kindergarten and younger head downstairs to The Cove. Greenbrier children use the 2ND Space on the same curriculum in a slightly different format. Students gather at both campuses at 6 PM for their own service.

Adults join men's and women's ministry tracks that meet in parallel on Wednesday nights. Men's Bible study meets in the Chapel at Conway and in the Hearth Room at Herschel Hall in Greenbrier, with a full calendar of series designed for men to connect, grow as godly leaders in their homes and church, and sharpen one another through discipleship and discussion. Women's Bible study meets in Fellowship Hall at Conway and at the Greenbrier Community Center, with a similar rhythm of Bible study, relationship building, and encouragement. The midweek program follows the academic-calendar rhythm of fall break, a semester break at Thanksgiving, and a return in mid-January.

Small Groups and Authentic Community

Small Groups are described as the place where a large church becomes a Second Family. Groups meet in three rhythms - weekly Bible studies, monthly hangouts around a meal or activity, and quarterly helpouts to serve others - and exist for the purpose of building authentic relationships, deepening faith, and serving the world with the love of Jesus. Joining a group is presented as the first step for newcomers who want to grow in community beyond the Sunday gathering.

1510: A Churchwide Commitment to the One

1510 - For the One is the church's evangelism initiative, built around Luke 15:10 and the promise of joy in heaven over one sinner who repents. The church has committed to intentionally pray for, invest in, invite, and share Jesus with at least one person God has placed in each member's life. Members prayerfully identify their One, submit a first name to the 1510 Prayer Wall so the congregation can pray with them, then pray daily, invest, invite, and look for opportunities to share the gospel. When someone comes to faith, visits the church, or begins asking spiritual questions, the church celebrates the story and helps the new believer take next steps of baptism and connection. The initiative also includes resources on sharing the gospel and on sharing one's personal testimony in three to five minutes.

Missions: Local, National, and Global

The missions ministry frames its work as meeting both physical needs and the deeper hope of Jesus. Locally, the church partners with the Conway Ministry Center, City of Hope Outreach Hope Village, Life Choices, The Call, and Renewal Ranch, all of which serve Faulkner County and the surrounding area. Globally, the church sends short-term teams and supports long-term missionaries and supports the Cooperative Program that underwrites a wide swath of Southern Baptist mission and ministry work.

Upcoming international trips include a week in Panama City, Panama (June 5-11, 2027) and a week in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (July 24-30, 2027). Anyone interested can come to an interest meeting over lunch to learn what the team will be doing, who can go, costs, dates, and how to be involved, with no commitment required to attend.

Biblical Studies and Theology Certificate

Second Baptist has partnered with Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary to offer a Certificate in Biblical Studies and Theology for any member who wants a deeper foundation for ministry. The seven courses cover Hermeneutics, Christian Theology, Great Commission Studies, Old Testament, New Testament, Historical Theology, and Biblical Ethics. Each online course is self-paced, can be started at any time, and costs $72.75 paid as the student goes. Upon completion, the student receives a certificate from SEBTS and 2ND Baptist.

What the Church Believes

Second Baptist's Statement of Faith begins with Articles I through XVIII drawn directly from the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. The church affirms the Bible as the inspired, true, and trustworthy revelation of God; the existence of one true God in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; the creation of humanity in God's image and the entrance of sin into the world through human choice; and salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, including regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification.

The church practices believer's baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper as the two ordinances given to the local congregation. A New Testament church is described as an autonomous local body of baptized believers governed by the Lordship of Christ through democratic processes, with pastors and deacons as scriptural officers. The church teaches that the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture. Two additional articles, XIX and XX, articulate the church's beliefs on marriage, gender, and sexuality and on the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death.

The church also affirms religious liberty, cooperation among churches for the advance of the gospel, and the cooperative work of associations and conventions, including support of the Cooperative Program. Members are taught to give cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally, and to recognize all they have as entrusted for God's glory and the help of others.

Membership Through Starting Point

Anyone interested in joining the 2ND Family walks through Starting Point, a two-step process of Starting Point Online and a Starting Point Lunch. The online portion uses a Ministry Grid platform created by LifeWay and walks prospective members through three short videos and a few simple forms at their own pace. The lunch is the final step and gives prospective members a chance to meet the pastors and ask questions. New members can be baptized along the way in one of the baptism services the church schedules.

Serving on the Home Team

Every person who serves at Second Baptist in any ministry is part of the Home Team. The team's purpose is welcoming people into the family and making them feel at home, whether greeting at the door, helping in kids' ministry, playing an instrument, or assisting with events. Those interested in serving fill out a short form to be plugged in.

Giving and the Above & Beyond Campaign

The church teaches tithing - returning ten percent as a starting point - and offerings above and beyond the tithe. Because members give, the church hosts more than 400 college students each week, funds teaching and activities for kids and students, partners with local ministries such as Renewal Ranch and the Conway Ministry Center, sends short-term mission trips, and supports missionaries around the world through the Cooperative Program. Right now the church is in the middle of an Above & Beyond campaign with a goal of raising $3 million over three years to pay off existing debt and establish a building fund for future expansion at both campuses.

Gifts can be made online through the church's SecureGive portal, by check or cash dropped into the boxes at the back of the worship center, by mail to the Conway office, in person at the secure drop box attached to a column at the Conway campus front door, or by transferring stocks and other non-cash assets.
