Sunday Mornings on Catalina Place
Sandusky Baptist Church sits on Catalina Place on the western side of Lynchburg, Virginia, and has long been a steady presence in its neighborhood. The congregation's stated purpose is to meet the needs of people by offering the message of hope that comes through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, shared through the Word of God. Members see the gospel as shaping individual lives, marriages, families and careers, and they describe their fellowship as loving, friendly and accepting.
A Blended Worship Service
Each Sunday at 11:00 a.m., the church gathers as the family of God for worship. The service is intentionally blended, pairing traditional and modern Christian music with teaching that is meant to be meaningful, expressive and encouraging. The opening text from Psalm 147 sets the tone: "How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him!" Before the service, Sunday Bible Study meets at 9:45 a.m. for all ages.
TeamKID on Sunday Nights
Children in grades 1 through 5 are invited to TeamKID on Sunday evenings from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Short for Kids in Discipleship, the program combines Bible memory games, application of Bible truths, engaging missions videos and hands-on activities, with a meal provided. Online registration is available for the year.
Disciple Making Groups for Adults
Adults at Sandusky Baptist can join Disciple Making Groups, which meet weekly at various times. Each group has one leader and no more than three disciples and follows the New Testament pathway that Jesus used when He chose and taught His followers. The groups are interactive and work through a curriculum that walks members through what it means to be a disciple and how to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Women in Mission
The Women's Missionary Union meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. WMU educates and enlists the church in a range of mission projects, both local and global, and gives women a regular rhythm of service and fellowship.
Food Boxes, Rides and a Block Party
The church operates a Food Pantry Box program, and neighbors can fill out a form online to be added to the list for a box, with a phone call to the office for any questions. For anyone who needs transportation to worship or church activities, the office will arrange a ride by calling 434-239-8410. A Car Show and Block Party is part of the church's community rhythm, with photo galleries documenting past gatherings on Catalina Place.
Operation Christmas Child and the Red Truck
Each May, the church collects t-shirts, flip-flops, hats and socks for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and welcomes contributions toward shipping costs. The Red Truck Ministry is another mission project the church supports, and those who wish to give can mark the memo on their checks or use online giving through Tithe.ly. VBS (Vacation Bible School) rounds out the year, with its own photo gallery.
