Risen King Community Church sits on Oasis Road in north Redding, California, with a simple three-word mission printed across the top of its home page: "Love God. Love People. Love Redding." The church behind those words is a multi-generational congregation that takes its city seriously - partnering with local ministries, sending missionaries abroad, opening its building for community events, and offering weekday support groups for people walking through some of life's hardest seasons.
The current chapter of the church is led by pastors Cole and Caitlin Zick, who stepped into the lead pastor role on July 16, 2023. The couple have been married for more than twenty years and have four high-energy kids. Before moving to Redding, they spent thirteen years serving at Capital Christian Center in Sacramento, much of that time with young people and families. They came to Redding in 2017 to lead Moral Revolution, and their aim at Risen King has been to honor the deep roots that came before and to help the church become healthy, effective, and ready for what is next.
The question Cole and Caitlin keep asking is whether a church today can live out a modern-day Acts 2:42-47: devoted to the teaching, to each other, to breaking bread and to prayer, sharing what they have, meeting in homes as much as in a building, with glad and sincere hearts.
Sundays at 6100 Oasis Road
Sunday mornings at Risen King run twice at the Oasis Road campus. Services are held at 9 am and 11 am, with doors opening about 45 minutes early so coffee is ready when people arrive. The shape of the gathering is straightforward: worship, a message from one of the pastors, and time to pray together. The whole service runs about 80 minutes.
The dress code is casual, and the back rows are fine for anyone who would rather not sit up front. Skeptics are welcome - the church's own first-Sunday guide tells visitors they can come as skeptical as they are. A Welcome Center team in the lobby is there to greet first-time guests and save them a seat, and after the service people are invited to stick around, ask a question, or slip out quietly without pressure either way.
Risen Kids covers infants through sixth grade, with check-in in the lobby. First-time families are encouraged to give themselves an extra ten minutes to get kids registered and settled. Seventh through twelfth graders join the main service; their weekly youth gathering happens on Wednesday nights.
Services are livestreamed on YouTube, and a podcast called The Regular carries weekly messages. Past services are kept in an online playlist for catch-up viewing.
Risen Kids
Children's ministry at Risen King - called Risen Kids - is built around the conviction that children are not just the future of the church but a vital part of it now. Through dynamic lessons, interactive storytelling, worship, and play, kids are invited to discover who they are in Christ and how to share His love with the world.
The team, led by Children's Ministry Director Janice Harley, aims to create a fun, nurturing, and engaging environment where children and parents feel known, seen, and safe. Janice has served in children's ministry leadership for more than twenty years, including time at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale and James River Church in Springfield, Missouri, before relocating to Redding with her husband Rob.
City Youth
City Youth is the church's ministry for middle and high school students, meeting on Wednesday nights at 6:30 pm. The goal is to create a fun, safe, welcoming environment where students can connect with others, build real friendships, and be encouraged in their faith.
The ministry is directed by Dylan and Paige Mosshart, who met at a Christian summer camp and moved to Redding about eight years ago. They own Fridays Vintage, a clothing store in downtown Redding, and lead the high schoolers with a heart to see young adults come alive through lives fully surrendered to Jesus. Elisha and Ali LaRance assist with middle school. Students can stay in the loop through the church's connection card.
Home Groups and Care Ministries
Risen King's calendar reaches well beyond Sundays into homes and small groups across Redding.
Home Groups meet twice a year - spring and fall - in living rooms across the area, with the fall season typically launching in mid-September. These small groups are the church's way of moving beyond Sunday morning into everyday community, growing in faith, supporting one another, and walking through life side by side. Groups are open to newcomers and long-time attenders alike.
For heavier seasons, the church runs three named care ministries. Divorce Care meets Mondays at 6:30 pm at a home on Alma Avenue, walking participants through a stressful season with hope and practical guidance. Grief Share runs Tuesdays at 7 pm at the RK Community Center in a thirteen-week format that pairs teaching videos from nationally respected grief experts with small group discussion. Risen King Recovery is a Twelve Step support group meeting Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in Mod 6, following a biblical model of recovery for anyone working to break free from addiction or destructive patterns.
Care Pastor John Wiseman oversees much of this work. He and his wife Deb have been part of Risen King since 2008, having previously served on staff at Neighborhood Church in Redding since 1992. Together they focus on missions, seniors, care, and support groups.
Men's, Women's, and the King's Eagles
Adults at Risen King have several intentional communities to choose from.
The Men's Ministry exists to glorify God by reaching, equipping, and encouraging men to grow in their faith and lead lives marked by love, integrity, and purpose. The group gathers through monthly breakfasts, small groups, Bible studies, mentoring, and service projects.
The Women's Ministry, called ToGetHer, is a place for real relationships, intentional discipleship, and encouragement through every season of life. Programming includes Bible studies, women's events, a monthly walk and coffee, and quarterly gatherings designed to inspire spiritual growth and joy across generations of women.
The King's Eagles is the church's active senior adult community for those 50 and older. The group enjoys movie nights, brunches, birthday parties, BBQs, hikes, prayer support, birthday cards, involvement with ESYAC, and Wreaths Across America. The Eagles keep relevant relationships with one another, minister through the ups and downs of life, and carry the mission of Christ into the broader community.
Missions: Redding and the World
Missions is woven into Risen King's identity, both locally and across the world.
The church supports career missionaries in four places. Sarah Parodi serves with Pioneer Missions in Manchester, England, working alongside her father to plant an international church out of the Chinese Alliance Church and ministering to internationals and refugees from North Africa, the Middle East, and beyond who come to Manchester for university studies. Shannon Mintz, a former Risen King youth staff member, serves through YWAM Montana in South Africa, ministering to the urban poor and discipling women and children in impoverished communities. Peter and Tanya Kinney serve as hospitality house hosts near Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota with Cadence International, hosting Bible studies and meals for airmen and officers. Alexandria Jeminez leads Intervarsity at Shasta College, with John Wiseman and Katie Littlepage serving on the advisory council.
Short-term trips connect the congregation directly to global work. The MARKED trip takes teams outside Guadalajara, Mexico, where Michael and Jaclyn Miller lead a ministry of mentorship, sports programming, education, and community development in surrounding rural communities. The Rescue Kids International trip goes to Mae Sot, Thailand, where the organization works through trusted local partners to rescue children from exploitation and trafficking, restore families, and empower future leaders.
In Redding, the church partners with several organizations to bring its faith into the city's neighborhoods. Good News Rescue Mission has been serving the city's homeless and hurting since 1964, providing emergency shelter, meals, clothing, and recovery programs. Shiloh Flower Farm is a nonprofit creating a healing home for women rebuilding their lives after homelessness and addiction through community, therapy, life skills, and job training. NorthState Care Clinic offers free, confidential pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and options counseling for women and families across the North State, including through a mobile clinic. Rescue Kids International, based in Redding itself, has rescued more than a thousand children since 1992 from exploitation across Asia, Africa, and beyond, providing homes, education, medical care, and a future.
Beliefs and the C&MA Family
Risen King aligns with the Statement of Faith of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA), a global family of churches and workers committed to knowing Jesus and making Him known. The church's own articulation of its faith runs through five values.
Faith, for Risen King, is a daily response to what Jesus has already done, not a Sunday habit. Community means being truly known and cared for in deep, lasting relationships that go beyond small talk into real life together. Worship is a life lived for God Monday through Saturday, not just songs on Sunday - the church's own way of putting it is that they worship Monday through Saturday with their lives so they do not lie on Sunday with their lips. Word and presence are held together: Scripture and the Holy Spirit, foundation and fire. And ministry is for every believer, not just pastors on a stage - the church works best, they say, when everyone plays their part.
In practice that means giving whole lives to Jesus, holding biblical truth and the work of the Spirit in equal measure, loving people practically rather than treating them as projects, and pursuing people the way Jesus did - the outcast, the overlooked, the hurting.
Spaces for the Community
Risen King opens its doors to the wider community through a venue rental program. Three spaces are available. The Worship Center holds 500 guests and includes chairs, sound system, stage lighting, and an adjacent kitchen area in the lobby, with tables available on request. The Community Center seats 100 with tables and chairs included. The Park is an outdoor space with sports courts and picnic tables. Outside caterers are welcome, the facility is alcohol- and smoke-free, and event insurance with a minimum coverage of $1,000,000 is required. Rental inquiries go through the office at 530-244-2300 or events@risenking.org.
Pastors and Staff
The pastoral team is anchored by Lead Pastors Cole and Caitlin Zick. Care Pastor John Wiseman has served with the Alliance since 1977 and joined Risen King in 2008, focusing on missions, seniors, care and support groups. Worship Leader Buddy James and his wife Amy moved to Redding from the Bay Area, where they served as worship pastors at an Assemblies of God church for eight years. Janice Harley directs children's ministry. Dylan and Paige Mosshart direct youth ministry, with Elisha and Ali LaRance assisting with middle school. Brecklyn Olof serves as Executive Director of Communications and Outreach. Micheal Miller is Creative Director. Karen Warren leads women's ministry alongside her connections work.
A six-member Board of Directors provides governance, and several board members have been part of the Risen King family for more than twenty years.
