A Welcome Home on Adams Boulevard
Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church meets at 1631 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles. The church's vision is to build people, and the congregation describes itself as "Redeemer Strong," a family committed to growing in faith, serving others, and sharing the love of Christ. Visitors are welcomed with the words "Welcome Home," and that same warmth carries through every part of the church's life together.
Pastor E. Wayne Gaddis Jr. keeps the door as wide as possible. "No matter who you are or where you come from, you are welcome here," he writes. "We would love to have you worship with us and experience the love, fellowship, and power of God at Redeemer Missionary Baptist Church. We're saving a seat just for you." The church's mission is to carry out the Great Commission, cultivate family, and care for the community, and the conviction that "life is better when we do it together" runs through everything the congregation does.
Sunday Mornings at 9:30
In-person worship gathers at 1631 West Adams Boulevard every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Pacific. The same service is shared online at the same hour on YouTube, so members at home can join wherever they are. Right after the service, the food ministry opens its giveaway for neighbors who could use a meal.
On the second Sunday of every month, the morning takes on extra energy for Family and Friends Day, an open invitation to come as you are, meet the congregation, and stay for fellowship afterward.
What Redeemer Believes
The church's statement of beliefs walks through classic Christian doctrine in plain language. Redeemer confesses one God eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - one in essence and purpose. The church affirms the deity of Jesus Christ, his virgin birth, sinless life, vicarious death, and bodily resurrection. The Bible is received as the inspired and infallible Word of God and the final authority for Christian faith and practice.
Salvation, the church teaches, comes by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, received through personal repentance and trust in his finished work on the cross. Those who believe are secure in salvation for eternity, kept by the grace and power of God rather than by personal effort. Redeemer also looks forward to the return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the establishment of his eternal kingdom, the blessed hope that encourages perseverance in faith and ministry.
Two ordinances shape the church's life. Baptism by immersion is a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and the believer's public declaration of faith; it does not save, but it is a biblical command and an act of obedience. Communion, or the Lord's Supper, is a regular reminder of Christ's sacrifice, with bread and wine or juice standing for his broken body and shed blood.
Care, Counseling, and Prayer
The Care and Support Ministry walks alongside people facing life's challenges, from grief to marriage counseling. Pastoral staff and volunteers provide emotional, mental, and physical support to anyone struggling, member or not. Anyone can send a prayer request online, and the church prays with and for those who reach out.
Feeding the Neighborhood Every Sunday
Every Sunday after the worship service, the church opens a food giveaway for neighbors who need a hand. During the holidays, the food ministry expands to meet the larger need of the season. It is one of the most visible ways Redeemer carries its missionary identity into the surrounding community, reaching not only members of the congregation but members of the wider neighborhood as well.
Disaster Relief with HOPE
Redeemer has partnered with Helping Other People Exceed and other Los Angeles city organizations to bring disaster relief to families affected by the Altadena and Pacific Palisades fires. The church channels donated funds directly to fire victims in the form of gift cards. A dedicated Disaster Relief Fund on the giving page sends 100 percent of contributions to fire-impacted people.
Wednesday Bible Study on Zoom
Midweek teaching meets on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. Pacific over Zoom, opening the Bible for anyone who wants to go deeper between Sundays.
The Pastoral Team
Pastor E. Wayne Gaddis Jr. leads the congregation and preaches on the church's vision of building people in faith, family, and community. He is joined on the preaching team by Pastor Curtis Monroe Jr. and Reverend Brandon Hampton, both of whom contribute to the sermon library.
Giving
Redeemer accepts one-time, weekly, or monthly gifts online through its donation page. Donations can be directed to the General Fund, which supports the church's ongoing ministry, or to the Disaster Relief Fund, which sends every dollar directly to fire-impacted families.
