A Pentecostal House of Champions in Bowie
RCCG Victory Temple Bowie, also called the House of Champions, anchors a growing congregation at 13701 Annapolis Road in Bowie, Maryland. The church belongs to the Redeemed Christian Church of God, a Pentecostal family shaped by the vision of the General Overseer, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, to plant a church within walking distance of every neighborhood in developing countries and within a ten-minute drive in developed countries. Victory Temple was born in 1996, when twenty-six believers - seventeen men, four women, and five children - gathered for the first Sunday service at 8604 Central Avenue in Landover, Maryland.
From that first home, the congregation moved through a series of rented spaces: a Holiday Inn hotel in College Park, then James H. Harrison Elementary School in Laurel, and Dwight Eisenhower Middle School in Laurel. In April 2002, the church moved into its current building, which was purchased for $1.35 million and renovated with another $1 million. Membership has grown to more than 2,000 worshippers, and the church now runs over forty departments and ministries.
Senior Pastor Adebayo Adeyokunnu
Pastor Adebayo Adeyokunnu, called Bayo, is the pioneer pastor of Victory Temple Bowie. He has ministered within the body of Christ for more than three decades, beginning as a leader in the Student Christian Movement at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University. Before coming to Bowie, he served as Deputy Continental Overseer and Regional Pastor of RCCG in North America, and he pastored RCCG congregations in Lagos, Nigeria. He is married to Pastor Margaret Adeyokunnu, the former Regional Pastor of RCCGNA MD Province 1 and former President of Women In Ministry in North America. As a missionary pastor, he has helped establish more than forty RCCG parishes in India, and he continues to speak at conventions and conferences in Africa, the United Kingdom, and North America. Victory Temple Bowie itself has given rise to over twenty-five additional RCCG parishes across Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Washington, DC.
Pastor Bayo is also an author. His books, including The Anointing of a Thousand Times, The Healing Covenant, The Christian An Eagle, Seeing the Invisible, Money is a Defence, and Marriage in Spirit and Truth, are sold through the church's bookshop. He holds an honorary doctoral degree in Chaplaincy and Community Leadership from CICA International University and Seminary.
Sundays at Victory Temple
Sunday morning at Victory Temple runs on three rhythms. Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. for everyone. At 10:00 a.m., the Impact Service gathers young adults in a service billed as "for young adults by young adults." The main service follows at 11:00 a.m. On the first Sunday of each month, the schedule shifts: Sunday School remains at 9:30 a.m., and a combined Thanksgiving Service takes the place of the other services at 10:00 a.m.
Worship at Victory Temple blends traditional and contemporary gospel, hymns, praise, and spirituals. The Tribe of Judah, the church's choir, leads the congregation each Sunday, accompanied by a band of musicians. The Drama Ministry performs during special programs, and the Victory Dancers interpret sacred music through movement. Services are livestreamed on YouTube for those who cannot attend in person.
Midweek Rhythms: Bible Study, Prayer, and El Shaddai Nite
Bible Study meets every Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. A second weekly gathering called El Shaddai Nite, billed as "Experience the Power of The Almighty God," takes place Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. On Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m., the Prayer Ministry hosts Touching Heaven, Changing Earth, an informal time of corporate prayer in the sanctuary. The Watchmen and the Intercessors devote themselves to praying for the pastor, the church, and RCCG worldwide throughout the week. A prayer wall lets members post requests that other believers can read and lift up in prayer, and an on-call pastor is available in case of emergency.
What Visitors Should Know
Victory Temple Bowie is a "come as you are" church, so guests can wear what is comfortable. Bibles are available in the sanctuary for anyone who wants to follow along. The senior pastor preaches from the King James Version, though attendees bring whatever translation they prefer. If a guest would like a Bible of their own, the church will provide one.
Childcare is provided by trained workers. Victory Kidz, the children's program during adult services, includes ages 3 through 12, with elementary and middle school activities alongside. If a childcare worker needs to reach a parent during the service, a number specific to that family is displayed on the screen at the front of the auditorium. A baby dedication form is available for parents who wish to present their children to the church, and a New Birth Registration and Naming Ceremony form is offered for those marking a new beginning.
The church welcomes first-time guests warmly. After each service, newcomers are invited to a follow-up room for a meet and greet, and a First Time Guest Survey and New Guest Information Form make it easy to connect. The Information Center staff shows guests around the building and answers questions about the facilities, the classrooms, the nursery, the sanctuary, and the restrooms.
Children and Teens
Victory Kids disciples children to Jesus Christ through prayer and a foundation of biblical truth. During adult worship, children ages 3 to 12 participate in a worship service of their own with activities tailored to their age group.
Teens Church is described by the church as a "fun interactive service." It meets on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. behind the main Victory Temple Bowie building. Bible study is held on the last Wednesday of each month, and a prayer meeting is held on the first Wednesday of each month; both are on Zoom at 8:00 p.m. The youth pastor is Mobolaji Ogunsuyi, an anointed minister and artist who is described by the church as a father of three. The youth ministry maintains its own Instagram and TikTok presence under the name RCCG Youth On Fire.
Men of Valor, Victorious Women, and Wisdom
The Men of Valor ministry complements the wider ministry of Victory Temple by focusing on men. Its vision is to create a culture that embraces God-given masculinity while educating, equipping, encouraging, and mobilizing men to realize the vision of a God-honoring and significant life. Activities include Bible studies, men's dinners, camp-outs, fishing trips, softball, basketball, golf scrambles, a Daddy/Daughter Date Night, and other outings throughout the year.
Victorious Women ministers to the physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional needs of women in the church. The ministry fosters spiritual growth and renewal, affirms the worth of women, ministers across the life span, mentors younger women, and encourages women to use their gifts in service to the church and the wider world.
Wisdom is the church's ministry for adults ages 50 and above. Through active ministry in the church, Bible studies, and service projects, the senior community of Victory Temple engages in five directives: fellowship, encouragement, friendship, compassion, and outreach.
The Singles Ministry provides an avenue for singles to grow spiritually, emotionally, and physically through monthly meetings. The Marriage Ministry includes Marriage God's Way, a twelve-week class required for all who wish to be married at the church, and Marriage Enrichment, which provides spiritual, recreational, and informational activities for married couples.
Outreach: Master's Touch, Hospital, Prison, and Medical
Victory Temple takes the Great Commission seriously, both across the street and across the world. The Master's Touch Outreach feeds people who are homeless on the streets of Washington, DC, and brings them to church for Sunday services and special programs. The Hospital Ministry offers pastoral care to the church community, while the Prison Ministry provides spiritual and motivational resources, programming, and special events for offenders, former offenders, and their families. The Medical Ministry, made up of healthcare professionals and lay individuals, promotes health awareness, safety, and health maintenance in the church and community and offers first aid during regular worship services and special events. The Athletic Ministry uses athletics as a form of witness, treating the court, the field, and the track as an altar for offering one's gifts as worship.
The Evangelism Ministry carries the gospel out into the surrounding communities, while the church as a whole supports the mission efforts that have planted more than forty RCCG parishes through Pastor Bayo's ministry. The Transportation Ministry provides rides for members and guests who need them for conferences and crusades, and the Visitors Follow Up team calls newcomers to thank them for coming, answer questions, and invite them back.
Music, Drama, and the Arts
The Tribe of Judah leads praise and worship during services and programs, drawing on a variety of skilled musicians. The choir blends traditional gospel, contemporary gospel, hymns, praise, and spirituals, and the congregation is invited to join in song or dance as the church celebrates the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. The Victory Dancers magnify the Lord through dance, and the Drama Ministry produces dramatic works that combine comedy, music, interpretive dance, and dramatic presentation.
Behind the scenes, the Multimedia Ministry keeps the sound, video, photography, and broadcasts running. The Sound team provides clear audio for every worship service and special event. The Video team creates visual support for services and events. Victory Network News presents the church announcements in the form of a news broadcast. The Photography team serves as the eyes of the church, helping to publicize the different activities of the church and its ministries.
Becoming a Member: Feast of Champions
Newcomers to Victory Temple Bowie are invited to Feast of Champions, a special program where they can meet the pastor and ministry leaders, hear the vision, structure, and doctrine of the church, and find a place to connect and serve. Children's ministry is provided by reservation. Membership classes are part of the Foundation and Baptism track, which includes lessons on the basics of the Christian faith, the distinction between devotional reading and Bible study, and Christian disciplines. A School of Discipleship is available for further training, and Workers in Training is a twelve-week Bible-discussion class that equips men and women for ministry.
Regular attendees can sign up for the Church Community Builder, a secure online tool that offers a church-wide calendar, a pictorial directory, private discussion forums, file sharing, photo directories, group calendars, event sign-ups, and personal communication preferences. Online giving is built into the platform.
