Red Mountain Community Church: A Mesa Church Walking the Bible Together Year After Year

Pentecostal Church in Mesa, Arizona

Red Mountain Community Church is a non-denominational church in northeast Mesa, Arizona, that has gathered at 6101 East Virginia Street since its first Easter service in 1990. The church centers its ministry on a whole-Bible reading plan and offers Sunday worship with children's, student, young adult, women's, men's, and care ministries alongside a wide network of mission partners.

About Red Mountain Christian Ctr

Red Mountain Community Church has gathered on East Virginia Street in northeast Mesa, Arizona, since its first Easter service in 1990. More than three decades later, the non-denominational church is still shaped by the same impulse that started it: gathering people around the whole counsel of Scripture and sending them out as disciples. The campus sits at 6101 East Virginia Street, with parking lots on the west and east sides and a collection of named buildings - the Life Center, Children's Building, and Gym Building - that together hold Sunday services, age-specific ministries, classrooms, an art gallery, and a coffee shop.

Sundays in the Life Center

The Life Center is the worship hub of the campus, and Sunday services run twice: at 9:00 AM with ASL interpretation, and at 10:30 AM. Each service lasts about an hour. The format is straightforward. The worship team opens with several songs while lyrics project on overhead screens, a pastor preaches a Bible-based message built around a single passage of Scripture, and the service closes with two or three more songs, brief announcements, and a sending verse. There is no dress code, and the church welcomes people of all ages and walks of life. Services are livestreamed on Sundays and published to the church's app on Mondays.

First-time visitors are pointed to parking spaces marked "New here? Park here!" in the lower west lot or the upper east lot. From there, they walk to an info table at the base of the sidewalk leading up to the Life Center, where a hospitality volunteer hands them off to the Welcome Table in the lobby and offers a free drink card for the on-site coffee shop. Volunteers wearing red name tags make it easy to identify the people who can answer questions and walk families to classrooms.

Each Sunday of the month carries a particular worship focus on top of the regular service: communion on the first Sunday, intercessory prayer on the second, giving on the third, and a sending emphasis on the fourth.

The Mission: Disciples Growing in Maturity

Lead Pastor Kyle Fox, who grew up at Red Mountain and has served as lead pastor since 2016 after graduating from Biola University in 2009 and Phoenix Seminary in 2017, articulates the church's heartbeat in a single sentence: "We are disciples of Jesus growing in maturity and mission for the glory of God." Five elements drive that growth. First is love, asking how Jesus has loved the believer and letting that love fuel a heart for others. Second is walking in the Spirit through disciplines such as prayer, confession, repentance, forgiveness, and generosity. Third is asking good questions, following Jesus' example of teaching through heart-level prompts. Fourth is embracing truth book by book through the Bible and the essential doctrines. Fifth is forming a daily habit in the Scriptures. Seven principles run alongside them: Jesus centered, grace based, heart-level questions, ongoing, relational, structured around engage-practice-process, and designed for multiplication.

The statement of faith sets out the church's convictions. Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, inerrant Word of God and the final authority for Christian faith and life. God is one being eternally existing in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, crucified for sins, raised bodily, and exalted at the right hand of the Father as High Priest and Advocate. The Holy Spirit indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers believers. Human beings were created in the image of God but fell into sin and are restored only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit. The shed blood and resurrection of Jesus provide the only ground for justification; those who receive Christ become children of God. The Lord's Supper and water baptism are ordinances observed by the church, though not means of salvation. The local church governs itself under Christ, and membership in a local congregation is open to those who are members of the true and invisible Church. The church looks for the personal, premillennial, and imminent return of Christ and teaches the bodily resurrection of the dead to everlasting blessing or everlasting conscious punishment.

A series of position papers works through the more debated topics in greater depth for those who want to know where the elders stand. The papers address church growth, depression, divorce, homosexuality, whether Red Mountain is reformed, male headship in marriage, marriage, the millennium, ministry style, music, pastoral roles, pre-marital sex, risky missions, the flesh, and women in ministry.

Children, Students, and Young Adults

Children are a central part of Sunday mornings. During the 9:00 AM hour, programming runs for children from birth through sixth grade, and during the 10:30 AM hour, birth through fourth grade. Parents check in at the Children's Building lobby, with a "First Time Check-in" lane for new families and a nursery inside the Life Center for children under two. SHINE is a self-contained classroom for children with special abilities, supported by trained buddies and an adapted Bible curriculum. Kids Hope USA also connects Red Mountain adults with local elementary students through one-on-one mentoring. Becky Bibelheimer, the Pastor of Children's Ministry, oversees this work; Brian Hoch has been named the incoming Pastor of Children's Ministry.

Each summer brings a Vacation Bible School for children from age four through sixth grade, with Bible learning, team games, worship songs, and craft activities meeting in the evenings for a week.

The Student Ministry treats teenagers as the church now, not only its future. Junior high students meet at 9:00 AM on Sundays and again on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 8:15 PM in the Gym Building. High school students meet at 10:30 AM on Sundays and Tuesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, also in the Gym Building. Each gathering blends teaching, worship, and discussion; on the first Sunday of every month, students join their families in the Life Center for communion. Brooklyn Meeker, the Pastor of High School, leads that ministry, and Kenny Walmsley serves as Pastor of Junior High. Summer camp is on the calendar every year, with retreats in between. Sports tournaments, conferences, and game nights give students a way to reach their peers.

Young adults between 18 and 25 gather under the leadership of Pastor Zach Hollifield and his wife Sydney. The group meets on Sunday nights and during the week for Bible study, service projects in the East Mesa community, and time to build friendships. A podcast captures recent teachings from the ministry.

Care, Recovery, and Family

Family and community ministry, led by Pastor Dave Emigh with Della Zwick as Director of Family Ministry, houses most of the church's pastoral care work. The Shepherd Team pairs individuals with trained volunteers for one-on-one discipleship through life's hardest seasons. Tender Loving Care (TLC) is a volunteer group that brings meals, drives people to medical appointments, and runs errands for those in difficult circumstances. A prayer shawl ministry meets in homes to knit or crochet for people who are sick or hurting, and a prayer team fields requests that come in through the church's prayer page and prays with people at the Cross at the back of the sanctuary after each service. DivorceCare and GriefShare walk people through divorce and grief on a recurring basis. The Foster/Adoption Group meets twice a month on Sunday evenings.

Two confidential support groups rooted in Scripture serve people wrestling with addictive sexual behaviors. Journey is a women's group, and Renew is a men's group that meets the first and third Monday of each month at 7:00 PM in Room G10.

Men and Women Around the Word

Women's ministry, led by Pastor Julie Gransee, centers on Bible study and friendship. Studies meet on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM, 7:00 PM on campus, and 7:00 PM on Zoom, with childcare provided on Tuesday mornings during the spring, summer, and fall sessions for birth through sixth grade. Studies have included Jen Wilkin's "God of Freedom," walking through Exodus 19-40; "Reading the Psalms: Chapters 73-150"; and "When You Pray," a seven-session video study featuring Bible teachers Kelly Minter, Jackie Hill Perry, Jen Wilkin, Jennifer Rothschild, Jada Edwards, and Kristi McLelland. A monthly newsletter keeps women up to date.

Men's ministry exists to inspire men to follow Jesus and fearlessly change the world. Fatherhood groups gather dads and grandfathers to grow together; the Break the Cycle outreach team repairs bicycles for A New Leaf's East Valley Men's Shelter and is moving toward a Roundtable Bible Study for the shelter's residents. Renew provides a confidential space for men struggling with misguided sexual desires. Special events, recreation, retreats, and small Bible studies round out the schedule.

Bible in a Year, Sermons, and Classes

The most distinctive rhythm of Red Mountain is its church-wide Bible in a Year reading plan. The plan reads through the entire Bible over twelve months and is delivered through a custom Red Mountain app, where each day's reading lives on the home screen alongside links to sermons, journals, study guides, and videos. If a reader falls behind, a "View Reading Plan" feature catches them up. The teaching philosophy aims to cover both Testaments deeply, anchored in the conviction that God's Word is the only thing that remains constant.

Sermons from Sunday services are posted on Mondays, and a series library collects the full back catalog. Classes meet in person on Sunday mornings; a recent study walked verse by verse through the book of 1 John at 10:30 AM in Room G10.

Two podcasts extend the teaching beyond Sunday. The main Red Mountain Community Church podcast tells stories of what God is doing in people's lives through Scripture. A second show, Building Spirit-Filled Homes, applies a biblical lens to marriage, parenting, and family life. Both are available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

Worship Arts at Red Mountain

Worship Arts ministry, led by Pastor Jessica Garcia, treats Christian worship as more than music. The team includes musicians, vocalists, visual artists, and tech crews, and the church sets aside five Nights of Worship each year alongside the regular Sunday services. The Red Mountain Art Gallery is a rotating exhibition on the campus, accessible from the lower parking lot through an exterior door of the Gym Building just east of the main entrance. The gallery is open Sundays from 8:30 AM to noon, Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM. The gallery runs parallel to the Bible in a Year reading plan, with exhibits that engage the same passages and invite meditation on Scripture through visual art.

To mark a milestone anniversary of the church's founding, Red Mountain Worship released "Raise Up Your Church," with each song capturing a moment in the church's history. The album is on Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play.

Mission Partners from East Mesa to the World

Missions at Red Mountain treats its members as "sent ones" called into the surrounding community and the wider world. Missionaries the church supports include The Bigmans, The Deksnises, Aubrey Eckley, The Esplins, Scott Frickenstein, The Kalvans, Lelde Keice, The Loginses, The Rwothumios, The Slebodniks, The Shinkarenkos, and Paula Zveja. Among the partner ministries are 1Mission (housing), Immigrant Hope (immigration services), Jacob's Hope (care for women and children), Kids Hope USA (school mentoring), MissionConnexion (a network for the mobilized), Naomi's Village (care for children), A New Leaf (the East Valley Men's Center and family services), and YoungLives (teen moms).

Trips leave the campus regularly. Once or twice a year, a team travels to Latvia to work alongside Latvian churches, helping put on youth camps and deepening relationships with students and young adults there. Every President's Day weekend, a team heads to Rocky Point, Mexico, to build homes for families in need. Each summer, a team partners with Indian Bible College in Flagstaff - an institution that disciples and educates Indigenous Christians - making campus repairs and praying with staff and students. Preston Hancock serves as Pastor of Leadership and Missions, with Kenny Walmsley as Missions Coordinator.

Connecting, Giving, and the Next Steps

People who want to learn more can join a group, attend a class, or download the Red Mountain app, which customizes content to user preferences and gives access to sermons, sermon notes, music, event registration, prayer requests, and giving. The Red Mountain Weekly is the church's email newsletter, and a prayer request page is always open. The Red Mountain Art Gallery also welcomes visitors during its weekly hours.

Five steps mark key milestones for those leaning in: believing in Jesus, being baptized (held about twice a year, with an orientation class beforehand), meeting the lead pastor in a small group setting, joining a membership class in the fall or spring, and dedicating a child during a Parent Child Dedication service held in the fall and on Mother's Day.

Giving is part of the church's teaching on discipleship and flows through several channels: online through OnlineGiving.cc by electronic check, debit, or credit card; by texting "GIVE" to 480-418-4347; by cash or check in the offering bag at any Sunday service; or by mail to the church address. Questions about giving go to the Pastor of Administration, Missy Crimmins.
