A Lutheran Presence in Roy Since 1957
Our Savior's Lutheran Church has stood at 5560 S 2300 W in Roy, Utah, since 1957, when it was founded in response to a need for a Protestant place of worship in the Roy area. More than six decades later, the congregation still describes itself with the same plain language it began with: a scripture-based, welcoming fellowship of believers. The church is affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC), a network of congregations and individuals who are free in Christ, accountable to one another, rooted in Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, and working together to fulfill the Great Commission.
Pastor Dirk Jensen leads the church today, supported by Interim Secretary Barb McFarland and Facility Manager John Crossfield. The congregation communicates through a printed weekly bulletin, a monthly newsletter mailed to members and posted online, an active Facebook page, a YouTube channel of recorded services, and an online community portal for members.
Sunday Mornings: One Worship Service, Bible Hour for All Ages
The Sunday rhythm at Our Savior's is straightforward. Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes around 10:30 a.m. Immediately after, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Bible Hour meets for everyone from September through May. The Bible Hour functions as the congregation's Sunday School, with classes offered for all ages - children, youth, and adults learning side by side.
Communion is served at every service, and a children's moment is part of the worship time. The music program draws on both a praise band and organ music, giving the gathered congregation a blend of contemporary and traditional styles. Prayers of the People are shared both in the sanctuary and through a live Facebook feed so members at home can join in.
Services are livestreamed on YouTube, and a long archive of previous services going back to 2020 sits on the church's video page, allowing regular worshipers and visitors to catch up on a recent sermon or revisit a meaningful one.
Education and Formation: Bible Hour, Small Groups, and the Sacraments
Our Savior's takes the forming of faith seriously across every stage of life. Bible Hour is the foundation, with classes for all ages gathering right after the worship service. Beyond Sunday morning, the church offers small groups, confirmation classes for youth preparing to affirm their faith, and First Communion classes for younger members approaching the sacrament for the first time.
Graduating high school seniors are honored each year at a reception and recognition gathering. A Vacation Bible School has been a regular part of the summer calendar, drawing families together for an evening or weekend of learning and fun. Adult learners also have a place: in past years the congregation has hosted studies such as "Lutheran Questions, Lutheran Answers," an adult confirmation review, and weekday Bible studies meeting at local restaurants and the church fellowship hall.
Worship and Music: Praise Band, Organ, and the Christmas Eve Candlelight
The worship life of Our Savior's rests on a wide circle of lay volunteers. A praise band and organ musicians lead the music each week. The Altar Guild prepares the sanctuary for worship, and Communion Assistants and Lectors take their turns at the front. Acolytes serve during services, and a dedicated team of ushers and greeters welcomes people at the door.
Behind the scenes, volunteers run the screens, soundboard, and video equipment, making the livestream and in-person service possible at the same time. A wedding coordinator and funeral coordinator walk families through those key life moments. Pulpit Supply preachers fill the pulpit when the pastor is away.
One of the most cherished annual gatherings is the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, which draws the congregation together in the soft light of candles to mark the birth of Christ.
Ministries of Connection: Fellowship Across the Congregation
Our Savior's life together extends well beyond Sunday morning. The Connect ministries knit the congregation together through shared meals and seasons. Fellowship events include summer socials, a Wine and Cheese evening, a Steak Fry, and an Octoberfest. Men gather for a Men's Prayer Breakfast, an Easter Breakfast, and Golf for the Son, a tournament that combines sport with a good cause. Women share an Advent Brunch, the Secret Sisters gift exchange, and a School Supply Drive that sends children in the wider community back to class ready to learn.
A Hospitality Team provides funeral meal support to grieving families and organizes the Alpha Food Drive for families in need. Home visitors and the Welcome Bags ministry make sure newcomers and those unable to leave home stay connected to the body of believers. Monthly designated charities channel the congregation's giving into specific local or global causes.
Service and Outreach: Quilting, Card Ministry, and Prayer Warriors
Service to others is woven through the congregation. A quilting group uses its hands and hearts to make quilts that are sent to those in need. The Card Ministry sends notes of encouragement, sympathy, and celebration to members and friends of the church. The Angel Team supports families in crisis, often anonymously, with practical help at a difficult time. Communion Teams take the sacrament to members who cannot attend in person. A dedicated group of Prayer Warriors commits to lifting up the prayer requests that come in from the congregation and the community.
These quiet ministries run alongside the bigger, more visible ones, and together they make up much of the practical care Our Savior's extends throughout Roy and beyond.

Affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ
Our Savior's is one of a number of congregations affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ, a fellowship of Lutherans who value both their Lutheran heritage and the freedom to shape their own ministry in their own context. LCMC congregations are rooted in Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions while remaining free in Christ and accountable to one another.
This affiliation shapes the church's self-understanding: solidly Lutheran in its theology and sacramental life, yet nimble enough to run a contemporary praise band alongside an organist, livestream its services, and host a Vacation Bible School with a Wild West theme.
