On Boston Street in Topsfield
Our Savior Lutheran Church sits right on Route 1 at 478 Boston Street in Topsfield, Massachusetts, serving the town and the surrounding North Shore. The congregation identifies itself as a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod church, and the building is the home for a full Sunday morning of worship, teaching, and ministry for every age.
Two Worship Styles, One Liturgy
Sunday worship at Our Savior comes in two forms that share the same backbone. The 8:15 a.m. Traditional service uses the settings of the Lutheran Service Book, with hymns, organ, choir, the readings, prayers, and a sermon that seeks to connect God's truth to daily life. The 10:30 a.m. Contemporary service is led by a praise band with guitars, drums, and keyboard, but keeps the same liturgical shape, the same appointed readings, the same prayers, and the same sermon as the earlier service.
During the summer, and on some Sundays around vacation times, the congregation combines into a single 9:30 a.m. Unity service that blends the two worship styles.
Sunday Mornings for Children, Youth, and Adults
Between the two services, the 9:30 to 10:20 Education Hour fills the church with classes. Kids Connection is the Sunday school for children ages 4 through 11, meeting in small-group, age-appropriate settings in the Kids wing. Kids in sixth through twelfth grade gather downstairs in the Youth room for Christ-centered lessons, discussion, ping-pong, and foosball. Adults meet in the Loft for a pastor-led class on biblical topics aimed at helping disciples carry the name of Jesus into the week ahead.
Families are welcome to keep little ones with them in worship; coloring and craft bags are available, and nursery care is provided for infants through two-year-olds. Children's sermons are part of each worship service.
An Evangelical and Confessional Lutheran Church
Our Savior describes itself as an evangelical, confessional Christian church and teaches from the Lutheran Confessions, the summary statements drawn from the Reformation that set out the basic Bible teachings about Jesus and His work as Savior. The congregation invites anyone, wherever they find themselves on the journey of faith, to come, hear the Good News of Jesus as Savior of the world, explore God's Word, and live out the adventure of being a disciple of Jesus. Its mission is summed up simply: disciples of Jesus Christ growing in faith, love, service, and numbers.
Missions and the Next Generation
A church home, the congregation teaches, gives a disciple a place to do ministry together with others, and Our Savior organizes that work around several programs. The Children's Ministry runs Kids Connection for ages three through fifth grade and plans seasonal events and outings to give children a Christ-centered environment. The Youth Ministry meets weekly at 9:30 for students in sixth through twelfth grade, with outings, concerts, a regular weekend camp, mission trips, and a place for young people to be involved in Sunday ministries.
The Bridge Ministry supports college-age students, both those from the congregation who have moved on to school and young people in local colleges or the workplace. The Missions program is organized in two tracks, one international and one local, alongside the work of the Traditional Music team and the Worship Band. Sermons are shared on YouTube, and the Sermon Cellar page collects past messages for further listening. Giving is supported through PayPal, funding the ministries of the congregation.
