Two Sunday Gatherings, One Family
Sunday at Mountain Creek begins with Sunday School classes for every age - infants through senior adults - meeting at 9:15 and again at 10:45 across the church campus. First-time guests are encouraged to stop by the blue tent by the doors of the Sanctuary, where a welcome team stands ready to direct families to the right classrooms and answer any questions.
Two worship services follow at 9:15 and 10:45 a.m. Bert Watts, the church's pastor, typically preaches through books of the Bible with occasional topical series, teaching the Scriptures in a way that points to the gospel and calls for faith in response. The music, led by a worship team, mixes modern and traditional hymns, so visitors will hear a little of each.
Children from birth through fifth grade have classes during both services. The kids ministry wing sits at the bottom of the parking lot, and volunteers help families check in. Younger children are welcome in the sanctuary with their parents at any point. The dress code is intentionally laid-back: come in whatever you are comfortable wearing, from casual to coats and slacks.
Wednesday Nights for Every Age
From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings during the school year (September through May), Mountain Creek runs three parallel ministries so that every member of the family is engaged at once.
MC Kids gathers 3-year-olds through fifth graders in the gym. The student ministry, called Counter Culture, brings sixth through twelfth graders together in the Fellowship Hall for worship, prayer, and the study of God's Word, followed by age- and gender-specific small groups that typically dismiss around 7:45 p.m. Adults gather in the Sanctuary for Core Classes, a 45- to 60-minute class covering Scripture, doctrine, or spiritual disciplines. Nursery care is provided for the babies and toddlers of families participating.
Kids Choir, for kindergarten through fifth grade, meets Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. from September through April, giving children an early-evening option before the rest of the family arrives.
Life Groups: Knowing and Being Known
Mountain Creek describes Life Groups as the primary way the church lives out its mission. There are two formats. Sunday Groups meet on campus at 9:15 or 10:45 alongside the services, and Home Groups gather in homes throughout the week at various times. Both center on knowing and applying God's Word, cultivating community, and serving one another and the surrounding community.
For newcomers, MC 101 is a short class designed for those still getting to know the church, covering who Mountain Creek is, what it believes, and what following Jesus together looks like here. From there, visitors are invited to meet with one of the pastors for coffee, share a meal, or sit down in the office - and to be matched with a Life Group that fits their stage of life.
A Place for Every Generation
MC Kids partners with parents in the discipleship of their children. The ministry runs two parallel Sunday environments: Sunday School for birth through fifth grade at 9:15, and Kids Worship for kindergarten through fifth grade at 10:45, where children participate in worship, games, a Bible story, and small groups. Midweek MC Kids meets on Wednesdays. Vacation Bible School each summer brings 3-year-olds through eighth grade to the church for a week of teaching and fun. Those interested in volunteering can contact the ministry team through the church office.
Counter Culture is the student ministry for sixth through twelfth graders. Students meet in Sunday morning groups at both services and gather for Midweek Worship on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., followed by small groups that dismiss around 7:45 p.m. A Winter Retreat each January and a summer camp anchor the yearly calendar. The student pastor, Matt, communicates with parents through a monthly email and is the main contact for the ministry.
College Ministry supports students in the high-school-to-college transition and beyond. MC Young Adults serves those in their twenties to early thirties, whether single, married, or married with kids. Two Life Groups are designed for this stage - the Livingston/Adkins group and the Taylor/Howard group - and the ministry also gathers for monthly lunches, weekly pickleball at Northside Park every Sunday at 4 p.m. (except holidays), and seasonal events. Pastor Cameron is the primary contact for the ministry.
Women's Ministry meets on the second Tuesday of every month to strengthen relationships and encourage one another in following Jesus. The women also actively support missionaries through the International Mission Board and other organizations, continuing a heritage they trace back to Annie Armstrong and Lottie Moon.
Men's Ministry builds up Mountain Creek men around a clear definition of Christian masculinity - the glad assumption of sacrificial responsibility. The men host an annual Stew Supper each winter and several Men's Breakfasts throughout the year. When needs arise in the congregation or community, the men step in to meet them; one recent Saturday found several building a wheelchair ramp for a senior woman of the church.
The Joy Club is the senior adults ministry, gathering regularly for outings and retreats centered on fellowship and service.
Family Discipleship
Mountain Creek teaches that raising children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord is not a job for parents alone but a joyful calling for the whole church. Parent Commissioning services, held one to two times a year, give families a chance to commit publicly to raising their children in the gospel while the church commits to walk alongside them in faith, love, and prayer. The church also curates a library of family discipleship resources - books, articles, videos, and podcasts - and encourages families to ask staff for recommendations on specific topics.
Multiplying Disciples Near and Far
The word "multiply" in Mountain Creek's mission is more than rhetoric. The church is committed to equipping its members to live as missionaries in their own neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and families throughout Greenville County, and to join in God's global mission as well.
Mountain Creek has a long history of sending and supporting missionaries through the Southern Baptist Convention Cooperative Program, alongside missionaries sent from its own congregation. In recent years teams have traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Princeton, West Virginia; and southeastern Kentucky. Mountain Creek has also partnered with church plants in Boston and Utah, and maintains international partnerships in North Africa and South Asia. Short-term mission trips remain a regular rhythm for anyone interested.
Making Room to Magnify
Significant growth since 2023 has prompted Mountain Creek to tackle long-needed upgrades to its fellowship hall and gym, spaces used by both ongoing ministries and whole-church gatherings. The church frames the renovation as a way to make room for all that God is doing and all that it prays He will do through the congregation for generations to come. Updates are shared regularly with the church family, and contributions can be designated to the Renovation Fund through online giving or by marking an in-service offering envelope.
What Mountain Creek Believes
Mountain Creek affirms the Southern Baptist Convention's Baptist Faith and Message (2000) as its confessional standard. The church's own statement of purpose runs through four verbs: Magnify God in everything, Mature in the faith, Minister to one another and others, and Multiply wholehearted followers of Jesus.
Under the heading "The Main Thing," Mountain Creek also publishes its own summary of the gospel, drawing on a short book by Greg Gilbert. The message centers on four words: God, Man, Christ, and Response. From Genesis 3 onward God has made known His plan to bring salvation through His Son. People, in turn, have turned from God in idolatry and sin, earning the penalty of death. Christ paid that penalty for those who trust in Him, freeing them from the power of sin and welcoming them into the family of God. The Christian life is the response of faith and repentance, receiving what Christ has done and following Him from there.
Plan a Visit
Visitors are welcome at either Sunday gathering - 9:15 or 10:45 a.m. - at 255 W. Mountain Creek Church Rd., Greenville, SC 29609. Both hours offer Sunday School classes for every age. Wednesday evenings add a third weekly touch point with parallel ministries for kids, students, and adults from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. during the school year.
Worship services are livestreamed online, sermons are archived on YouTube, and the teaching ministry carries into a podcast, so those who cannot be there in person can follow along. Newcomers are encouraged to register for MC 101 or set up a meeting with a pastor to learn more about the church family.
