LifePoint Community Church sits on West New York Avenue on the western edge of DeLand, Florida, in the heart of Volusia County. From that single campus the church runs two Sunday worship services, a Wednesday Family Enrichment Night, a children's program that reaches from newborns through fifth grade, a youth ministry called Revolution, and a missions network that stretches from Haiti to Japan. Its tagline, "Come... Grow With Us!," captures the spirit of a church that wants to introduce people to the good news of Christ and help them develop into mature followers of Jesus.
Two Sunday Mornings on West New York Avenue
LifePoint meets for worship at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM each Sunday at 1747 W. New York Ave. The 11:00 AM service is also livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube for those who cannot attend in person. The worship style is contemporary but rooted in the church's history; songs from Hillsong, Elevation Worship, Matt Maher, and Chris Tomlin sit alongside traditional hymns. The service is led by a spirited Praise Team and Choir, with multimedia, drama, and dance woven in to reach every generation. The goal is "an atmosphere of praise and worship while upholding a standard of excellence" using "normal everyday people with different levels of musical gifts and abilities."
Family Enrichment Night on Wednesdays
Wednesday nights belong to the whole family at LifePoint. Family Enrichment Night starts at 7:00 PM and runs three tracks at once: 3:18 Kids for ages four through fifth grade, Youth Group for grades six through twelve in the Student Life Ministry Center, and an Adult Bible Study. A nursery is provided for newborns through three-year-olds during the same hour. Wednesday nights function as the church's midweek discipleship hub, a complement to the Sunday gathering rather than a second Sunday.
LifePoint Kids and the 3:18 Discipleship Class
Children's ministry at LifePoint is led by Associate Pastor Terry Cooper, who has worked in children's ministry for more than thirty years, much of it full-time in the DeLand area with his wife, Terry Lynn. On Sundays at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM the church runs two parallel programs. The nursery, directed by Denise Mungo, cares for newborns through two-year-olds; parents are issued a personal contact beeper so the staff can reach them during the service. Children's Church, for ages two through fifth grade, opens with prayer, greeting, praise and worship, and offering before splitting into age-appropriate classes. The two- and three-year-olds stay together for the whole service; four- and five-year-olds move into a smaller group for their lesson and return for games and fellowship at the end. Children are taught to tithe, pray for one another, and hide Scripture in their hearts. The church says: "This is real church... with gum!"
On Wednesday nights the 3:18 Kids discipleship class gathers from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM for crafts, games, and Sunday-school style teaching on faith, values, and servanthood. A nursery for birth through three years is available alongside the class.
Revolution: A Youth Ministry with a Purpose
LifePoint's youth ministry is called Revolution: "young Christians with a desire to live for God." The name reflects the program's aim: replacing the standards the world hands out with the principles God has given, and setting an example in speech, life, love, faith, and purity. Revolution meets on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the Student Life Ministry Center on the LifePoint campus and serves students in sixth grade through high school. Its three purposes are to tell people about the love of God, train believers in what it means to serve God, and serve people as Christ did, with regular fellowship and activity time built in. Richard and Dory Stone serve as Youth Ministry Directors.
The Music Ministry: Choir, Praise Team, Band, and Orchestra
Worship arts are a major part of LifePoint's identity, and the music ministry says: "much more than music... we are family." Pastors Bob and Kathy Hinckley, both Stetson University graduates with Master of Music degrees from Southern Methodist University, have ministered in West Volusia for more than thirty years and lead the program. On Tuesday evenings the LifePoint Choir rehearses from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, followed by the LifePoint Praise Team from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. The choir ministers at every Sunday morning service and in special programs; praise team members must first be part of the choir. The full music ministry - choir, praise team, band, and orchestra - joins together for special services such as the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.
Adults: Bible Studies, Care, and the Meal Ministry
Outside the Wednesday night study, LifePoint runs a Ladies Bible Study facilitated by Paulette Johnson on Thursdays at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM, and a Men's Bible Study led by Pastor Don Jagers on Thursdays at 7:00 PM. Both are designed to help believers grow in their walk and connect with others beyond the weekend services.
The Meal Ministry serves the LifePoint family in tangible ways, supplying healthy prepared meals to those recovering from illness, surgery, injury, or the arrival of a new baby, as well as during other special circumstances. Requests are coordinated through mealministry@lifepointdeland.com with detailed forms that ask about allergies, dislikes, and delivery preferences. Paulette Johnson, who also oversees Member Care, and Josie Jagers help lead this outreach.
Going Beyond DeLand: The Missions Family
LifePoint supports a diverse network of missionaries and organizations under the heading "Love in action, everywhere." Pastor Don and Josie Jagers direct the missions work as a whole and personally oversee Hope Alive Clinic Ministries in Haiti; Pastor Frank and Leslee Jacobs are founders of the same clinic. Other supported partners include David and Linda Isais with African Bible Ministries, Doug and Denise Gregson with ParaTech Ministries, Stephen and Sandra Hogue with One Family, Kyle and Francis Holmes with Send International, Felipe and Laura Matias with the Brazilian Evangelistic Association, Andre Reese with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Central Florida, William Cobb Jr. with World Venture in Japan, Gabriel and Sierra Thead with Overland Missions in Cambodia, and Coastal Choices Women's Clinic, a local pregnancy center. The church frames this work as Matthew 28:19 lived out - "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" - and asks its family to underwrite it through prayer and financial support.
What LifePoint Believes
LifePoint teaches that Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, is verbally inspired of God and the Christian's final authority in faith and conduct. The church affirms one eternal God revealed in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and holds to the virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, and present ministry as exalted head of the church and Great High Priest. The Holy Spirit regenerates sinners, baptizes them into the body of Christ, indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers believers, and seals them until the Lord returns.
LifePoint teaches that man was created in God's image but fell into sin, incurring both physical and spiritual death with no means of self-recovery. Salvation is a gift of God's grace, received by faith in the work Christ accomplished at Calvary, not by works or religious effort. The church affirms the eternal security of the saved, the imminent and personal pre-millennial second coming of Christ, and the composition of the true church as all who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit through saving faith. Water Baptism and the Lord's Supper are observed as ordinances, and the Great Commission to carry the gospel to the entire world is "literal, imperative, and binding today."
The Pastoral Team
Pastor Don Jagers, a Liberty University graduate, serves as Lead Pastor and, with his wife Josie, leads the staff, elders, and volunteer team. He also directs Care Ministry and Men's Ministry. Bob Hinckley is Worship and Music Pastor, and Terry Cooper serves as Associate Pastor and Children's Pastor. Assistant Pastor Dr. Frank Clark, who holds a Ph.D. in Theology from International Seminary, supports the ministry team. Pastoral emails are listed for direct contact with each leader.
Starting Point, Baptism, and Baby Dedication
LifePoint invites newcomers and prospective members into the church through Starting Point, a three-Sunday new members class taught by Pastor Don and Josie Jagers. Water Baptism is celebrated periodically as a public, by-immersion declaration of faith; Baby and Child Dedication services are held during the 11:00 AM worship service for parents who want to present their children and devote themselves to raising them in a godly home. A Connection Card lets guests register for classes, submit prayer requests, ask questions, or subscribe to the weekly e-bulletin.
