Sunday Mornings on Carman Drive
Lake Bible Church gathers each Sunday at 9:30 AM in a building at the corner of Carman Drive and Kruse Way on the west side of Lake Oswego. The main worship service runs a little longer than an hour and includes congregational singing, prayer, a Bible-based message, time to interact with one another, and occasional personal stories from members. The messages are intended to be hopeful and helpful, pointing people toward Jesus and the life He has called them to live. The congregation describes itself as a Christ-centered, Bible-teaching church, and the church's mission is to Build People up in Christ, Send People out for Christ, and Bring People to Christ. Lake Bible is a regional church, drawing members and visitors from Tigard, Tualatin, Portland, West Linn, Sherwood, Wilsonville, and beyond.
At 11 AM, the focus shifts to adult Bible studies and student classes. Five Sunday morning groups meet in rooms across the building: First Things First, a discussion-based class that follows up on the morning sermon using material from LakeBibleNotes.com; a group studying the book of Colossians in room 254; a group working through Luke and Acts in room 251; a study on the life of David in the "great room"; and a young adult group in room 243. Connection Desks in the lobby help visitors find the right class and room.
What a First-Time Visitor Can Expect
Coffee and snacks are available from the cafe before the service, and the dress is simply whatever makes the guest comfortable. The campus has a spacious parking lot with plenty of spots. The building is fully wheelchair accessible, including restrooms and entrances, and an elevator serves the rest of the facility. Services are livestreamed on YouTube for those who want to participate from home.
Lake Kids is available during both the 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM services for children from birth through 5th grade. Three to five minutes is enough time to check kids in. The nursery is staffed by trained, background-checked volunteers, and every volunteer working with children and students has been background checked. Children are welcome to stay in the service if parents prefer. Sixth grade and up are invited to sit in the main 9:30 AM service, with classes offered at 11 AM for middle school and high school students.
A Statement of Faith Rooted in Scripture
Lake Bible Church trusts the Bible to guide it in all matters of faith and life. The church believes that God loves the world even though humanity has sinned against Him, and that Jesus, fully God and fully man, is the only way of salvation.
The statement of faith lays out seven areas. The Lord God is the sovereign Creator of all things. God is infinite and holy, one God in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - sharing the same divine essence. Human beings inherit a native corruption from the original rebellion, and all human-made religion, however sincere, represents rebellion against true revealed religion. Salvation comes through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ; the penalty of sin is death in both physical and spiritual dimensions, and eternal life is the gift of God to those who trust in Him.
The Scriptures are the written word of God, mediated by the Holy Spirit through holy people of old and preserved by that same Spirit. They are the final authority in Christian faith and practice. The church universal has Jesus Christ as its head and is made up of all His saints in every age who trust in the living God. The church looks forward to the physical resurrection of the saints, the final judgment, and the physical second coming of Christ to rule and reign on earth, banishing sin, sorrow, and death.
Wednesdays at Lake
Wednesday night programming begins at 6:30 PM and runs until 8:15 PM. There are classes and Bible studies for adults, programs for middle school and high school students, and Awana for children through 5th grade. Infant and nursery childcare is provided.
Adult options include Marriage Matters, Heart to Heart, and Women in the Word, each meeting as a midweek Bible study. The schedule gives adults a chance to dig into a passage or topic together and grow in relationships outside the Sunday rhythm.
Lake Kids
Lake Kids is the children's ministry for kids from birth through 5th grade. The team aims to emphasize the Word of God, educate kids, equip families, and empower volunteers in the shared vision of teaching kids the Gospel of Jesus and how to follow Him in fun and safe environments. Children hear the Bible taught while parents grow through preaching, with the goal of shaping families for home ministry.
Eight pillars guide the work: embracing God's heart for children, upholding the primary role of parents in discipleship, proclaiming God's nature, sharing the true Gospel, developing faithful leaders, ensuring safety and integrity, engaging kids where they are, and supporting and equipping families. Katie Hall leads the ministry, and a Lake Kids newsletter keeps families posted on what is coming up.
Lake Youth and the Rooted Program
Lake Youth centers on a program called Rooted, designed to get students into God's Word so that God's Word gets into them. Each week, students explore major books of the Bible through a hands-on, discussion-based format, reading, processing, and discovering what it means for real life.
A typical Rooted evening opens in the youth center with games, arcade stations, and snacks. Students then split into small groups with Scripture passages and guided questions, before coming together for worship and a Socratic main teaching time. The night closes with intentional games that build teamwork and friendship. Christian Rainville leads the youth ministry.
The program centers on five commitments: experiencing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, living a real faith in the real world, caring for each other, reaching out to friends, and asking tough questions.
Lake Women and Lake Men
Lake Women gathers women for Bible study, prayer, and relationships, with the purpose of growing women up in Christ. The ministry equips women to lead Christ-centered lives, encourages them to grow in the knowledge of His Word, and inspires them to be changed into His image. Bible studies form the core of the work and provide an environment for life-long friendships. An annual evening brings women together for food, fellowship, and a devotion, with volunteers at each table sharing about Bible studies, volunteer ministries, and exercise groups.
Lake Men meets on Thursday evenings from 7 PM to 8:30 PM for a Bible study that brings the men of the church together to grow in God's Word and listen for His voice, individually and as a community. The desire is to study Scripture and apply it faithfully in every area of life. Men also travel together on an annual fall fishing trip, often in the church van, with dinner provided and fellowship as the focus.
Bridge Ministry
Bridge Ministry provides home visits for members of the Lake Bible family who are unable to attend services, whether short-term or long-term, helping them stay connected to the church. A Bridge visit might include a devotion or a one-on-one Bible study, prayer, fellowship, encouragement, help with physical needs, an update on what is going on at the church, and listening for ways the church family can meet specific needs. The ministry invites anyone who would benefit from a visit to reach out, and welcomes others to join the home visit team.
Leadership
David Rudd serves in teaching and leadership. Christian Rainville leads the youth ministry, Steve West leads worship, Katie Hall directs Lake Kids, and David Fielding directs outreach. Stacy Olson handles administration, Ryan Peterson heads technology, and Mary Johnson manages finance. The elder team includes Jerry Smith as chairman, Carl Redman as chair of the admin counsel, Jason Graf as chair of the shepherding counsel, Ken Dixon as chair of the nominating counsel, Tom Mante as chair of the missions counsel, and Lucas Howard and Dan Wilcox as elders.
