A Century on Highway 180
Lagoon Baptist Church has stood on State Highway 180 in Gulf Shores, Alabama, for over a hundred years. The congregation calls itself a Southern Baptist church with a broad history of glorifying Christ and describes its present as a mission-minded season of pouring into the next generation of believers and neighbors. The church sits along the road that leads west out of Gulf Shores toward the Fort Morgan peninsula, and the members talk openly about renewing ministry both within the church walls and out in the local neighborhoods, inviting newcomers to be part of a growing community. In its own words, the church tells first-time visitors, "We are not perfect, but we know that you stopped at the right place."
Sunday Mornings at 10 and 11
Sunday School meets at 10:00 a.m. for every age, and the morning worship service follows at 11:00 a.m. The two-hour rhythm is simple: a class for growth and conversation, then a gathered service for the whole church. For those unable to attend in person, services are livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel, where the "live" tab brings up that week's broadcast.
Children, Students, and VBS
Age-graded ministry is a real emphasis at Lagoon Baptist. PreK through 5th grade children meet for Sunday School at 10:00 and Children's Church at 11:00, then return on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 for Kids Club. Middle and high school students, 6th through 12th grade, take part in Sunday School at 10:00, sit in on the 11:00 worship service, and gather again on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30 for Midweek. The student ministry also keeps an active Instagram presence under @lagoon.students. Each summer, a free Vacation Bible School runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon, with online registration for both children and volunteers.
Wednesdays Around the Table and the Word
Adults have two distinct Wednesday options. A midday lunch and Bible study begins at 12:00, and a second Bible study meets in the evening at 6:30. Together with Sunday School and morning worship, the weekly schedule is built around steady teaching of scripture, shared meals, and small-group conversation.
What the Church Believes
Lagoon Baptist's beliefs align with the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000, the confession adopted by churches in cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention.
