La Verne Heights Presbyterian Church gathers each Sunday morning on Baseline Road in La Verne, a small city in the eastern stretch of Los Angeles County. For those who are full of faith, full of questions, or somewhere in between, the church offers a place to worship, learn, and serve together as followers of Jesus Christ.
A Sunday at La Verne Heights
Worship at La Verne Heights happens at 10:00 a.m. each Sunday. The service blends joyful singing with thoughtful preaching grounded in Scripture, alongside prayer and the regular recitation of the Nicene Creed. Visitors are welcomed into a gathering shaped by what the congregation calls its core commitment: church begins with worship. Each week, the assembly remembers who God is, who the people of LVHPC are, and the grace that holds everything together.
For those new to the church, an online Plan a Visit form walks through service times, directions, and what to expect upon arrival. A Connect Card is also available for anyone wanting to share their name, ask a question, or simply say hello.
Following Jesus Together
The mission of La Verne Heights centers on three movements: following Jesus, growing together, and sharing God's love with neighbors near and far. Four values shape the life of the congregation:
- Church Begins with Worship. Weekly gatherings that remember who God is and the grace that makes the community whole. God's presence. Our purpose.
- We Teach What Transforms. Preaching and teaching that is thoughtful, honest, and grounded in Scripture, trusting the Spirit to make disciples more like Jesus. Deep truth. Real grace. Life-changing Jesus.
- We Love Where Love Leads. Every person has gifts to share, and the church helps each one find a unique way to serve, from the neighborhood to the nations. God is love. And so we are learning to love.
- We Spell Church Together. Faith grows in community, in circles rather than rows, through friendships, hard conversations, shared meals, laughter, prayer, and showing up for one another. A people to become. A place to belong.
What We Believe
La Verne Heights stands in the historic Christian and Reformed tradition. Together with the wider church, the congregation proclaims the Nicene Creed, confessing faith in one God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and in one Lord Jesus Christ, eternally begotten of the Father, who came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, became truly human, was crucified, rose again on the third day, and will come again in glory.
The church describes its faith as a "big tent Christian faith" centered on Jesus Christ, guided by the Holy Spirit, and accompanied by the great cloud of witnesses across the centuries. Faith is meant to be lived: formed in worship, practiced in community, and carried into the world for the good of neighbors and the glory of God. Trust and doubt, learning and growth, are welcomed as signs that faith is alive.
That faith is rooted in Scripture, prayer, and intentional practices; centered on Jesus Christ and life in the Holy Spirit; and open to formation, learning, and the wider church.
Presbyterian Identity
La Verne Heights is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and belongs regionally to the Presbytery of San Gabriel. The church describes itself as confessional, drawing on the PC(USA)'s Book of Confessions as a guide for individuals and churches seeking to be faithful to Jesus. The confessions are honored as trustworthy markers rather than final words, shaping the church's life and faith in conversation with Scripture.
Children, Youth, and Family
Next Generation ministries at La Verne Heights are led by Allie Beck, the Next Gen Ministry Director. The Children's Ministry walks alongside the youngest members of the church family, while the Youth Ministry serves middle and high school students. Both ministries help young people grow in faith alongside their peers.
Two family-friendly rhythms shape the month. On First Sundays, the church gathers after worship for a fellowship meal of good food, real conversation, and a simple way to belong. Newcomers are invited to RSVP in advance so a place can be set for them. Date Nights give parents a chance to enjoy an evening out while the church's children's ministry team watches the kids.
Living Out Faith Through Service
The congregation participates in One Great Hour of Sharing, a PC(USA) offering that supports disaster relief, hunger, poverty, climate, and refugee causes around the world. Locally, members are encouraged to find their own way to serve, trusting that gifts of the Spirit are given for the good of neighbors and the glory of God.
Staying Connected
Beyond Sunday worship, La Verne Heights keeps its people connected in several ways. A prayer hub is available for those who want to submit prayer requests or pray for others. Giving can be made online through the church's giving platform. The Connect Card is a simple way to share contact information, ask questions, or let the church know how they can help. The church also maintains an active presence on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, where updates, teaching, and moments from church life are shared.
A church calendar covers worship, small groups, fellowship events, and service opportunities throughout the year. Visitors and members alike are invited to step in whenever they are ready.

The church is led by Lead Pastor Jonathan Hughes, who preaches and teaches on Sundays and guides the congregation's life and mission.
