Right with God, Right with Each Other
Koinonia Worship Center & Village sits along West Hallandale Beach Boulevard in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where it has become a seven-day-a-week hub of worship, education, and outreach. The name "Koinonia" is a Greek word meaning "fellowship" or "community," and the church's motto - "Right with God. Right with each other." - is paired with the simple line, "It takes a Village." That "Village" idea has become more than a slogan: the campus is laid out as a working village, with multiple buildings and ministries running around the calendar, and a 24/7 gospel radio station that streams the church's music and teaching well beyond its own walls.
At the center of it all is founder and senior pastor Dr. Eric H. Jones, Jr. His positive influence and leadership, the church explains, has grown far beyond the walls of the building. Under his care, Koinonia now operates more than two dozen ministries, reaching into prisons, schools, recovery rooms, marriages, and youth groups across South Florida. The church describes itself plainly in its own words: a non-denominational Christian church, welcoming people from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Sunday Worship and the Weekly Rhythm
The main gathering each week is the Sunday worship service at 10:00 a.m., held in the Main Sanctuary. A typical service runs about an hour and a half and includes worship through music, prayer, a Bible-based message, and time to fellowship with others. Baptism and Communion are observed on the first Sunday of each month, with all believers invited to participate. Visitors are told plainly: come as you are, whether that means jeans or a suit. No dress code is required.
The midweek rhythm centers on Bible Study every Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Building F - Sanctuary. Led by Dr. Eric H. Jones, Jr. and Linda Jordan, Director of Education, the Bible Study is interactive and discussion-friendly. Participants ask questions, work through scripture in depth, and explore how the text applies to daily life. Both newcomers and long-time Bible readers are welcomed.
Between Sunday and Thursday, the campus keeps busy. Tuesdays and Thursdays also include visits to area prisons, halfway houses, and missions through the Prison Ministry. Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. bring the men of the church together in the Sanctuary and Building G, Room 107, while the Distinguished Gentlemen program gathers boys ages 5 to 17 in the Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall for Rites of Passage training. Wednesdays are kept open for prayer, preparation, and smaller gatherings.
The Ministries That Make Up the Village
Koinonia's "Village" is more than a name - it is a network of distinct ministries, each designed for a particular season, stage, or struggle of life. Seven are featured.
Kingdom Builders Youth Ministry
The youth ministry envisions a relationship between youth and parents that mirrors the family relationship Jesus modeled, building a foundation on which each young person can grow in knowledge of Christ. Programming covers Pre-K through high school. On Sundays (the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Sundays, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) the youth meet for an opening time of prayer, praise, and worship, followed by Words of Wisdom from the Youth Director, pastors, elders, or deacons. The group then splits into age-appropriate classrooms led by facilitators, with refreshments afterward. Friday nights (2nd and 4th Fridays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) are set aside for special programs, games, parent workshops, seminars, prayer shut-ins, and outings. The Friday gatherings are open to all youth and parents in the surrounding community, not just church members.
Christian Men of Destiny and the Distinguished Gentlemen
The Christian Men of Destiny is built around five pillars - economic, social, health, education, and spirituality - designed to address the full life of a man. The ministry meets every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary and Building G, Room 107. United with it is the Distinguished Gentlemen ministry for boys ages 5 to 17, which prepares young men through Rites of Passage training for the responsibilities of manhood, leadership, faith, and family. In 2026 the church marked the 30th anniversary of its annual Rites of Passage Ceremony, a milestone that underscored three decades of generational mentorship within the congregation.
Women with Vision Ministry
For 35 years, the Women with Vision Ministry has been a source of encouragement, discipleship, and spiritual growth for women and young ladies. Open to women and young adults ages 18 and older, the ministry gathers on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. and on the 3rd Saturdays at noon in Building G - Fellowship Hall. Topical studies address the realities of single life, marriage, and widowhood, mentoring younger women in their spiritual and emotional growth. The April 2026 anniversary weekend drew women from across generations for worship, workshops, fellowship, and a luncheon, with sponsors including Children's Services Council of Broward County and Memorial Healthcare System.
Cutils - Marriage Ministry
Cutils, short for "Christians United Together In Love," is the marriage ministry. The conviction behind it is that a Christian marriage is one of the cornerstones of the body of Christ. The ministry strengthens the marriage covenant through workshops, marital counseling, retreats, and special events, and is open to married couples, engaged couples, and the widowed. It gathers on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in Building G - Fellowship Hall (Room 204, with childcare available).
Singles Ministry
The Singles Ministry supports men and women who have never married, are divorced or separated, or who are widowed. Its goal is to empower singles to live purposeful, Christ-centered lives while building authentic community. The group meets on the 2nd and 4th Fridays at 7:00 p.m. in Building C. Its tagline - "Living Whole, Serving Bold, Loving Well" - captures the tone.
More Than Conquerors - Substance Abuse Ministry
Anchored in Romans 8:37 ("we are more than conquerors through him that loved us"), More Than Conquerors offers a Christian space for anyone facing life-hindering issues who is willing to seek biblical solutions. The group meets every Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Building G - Fellowship Hall and is open to everyone, not only church members.
S.H.O.E.S. Prison Ministry
S.H.O.E.S. ("Show How Others Eventually Submit") carries out the Matthew 25 call to remember those in jail. Volunteers worship, pray, and encourage men, women, boys, and girls who are incarcerated, traveling to prisons, halfway houses, and missions every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Times vary by location, but the commitment is consistent.
Biblical Black Studies
One of the most distinctive offerings on the calendar is Biblical Black Studies, a bi-weekly course held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. in Building F - Sanctuary. Led by Dr. Joaquin and Clarissa Willis alongside Dr. Eric H. Jones, Jr. and Linda Jordan, the class explores the presence and significance of Black heritage in scripture. Each session creates space for deep questions, open discussion, and reflection on the often-overlooked connections between heritage and biblical history. The course is described as a chance to strengthen faith, celebrate identity, and grow in community - open to lifelong believers and newcomers alike.
Eternal Life Evangelism Ministry (E.L.E.M.)
Evangelism at Koinonia has its own dedicated team and its own rhythm. The Eternal Life Evangelism Ministry - E.L.E.M. - meets on the first Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. in Building B for what the ministry calls an "Eternal Life Fishing Trip." Director Elder Joan Butler oversees a team that goes out into the community to share the gospel, following the call of Matthew 28:19-20 to make disciples of all nations. The "fishing" metaphor shows up everywhere in the group's materials, from invitations to signage, and gives the work a friendly, accessible feel.
Safe Place Ministry
Safe Place Ministry offers a sanctuary of compassion, faith, and understanding for those navigating grief, caregiving responsibilities, or personal transformation. Through connection, empathy, and spiritual support, the ministry walks alongside people in hope and healing, creating a safe, inclusive space to share experiences, express grief, and find strength in community. It is the church's pastoral response to life's most difficult chapters.
Core Values and Beliefs
Koinonia Worship Center & Village states its beliefs plainly. The church believes the Bible is the inspired, authoritative, and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for Christians. Its teachings center on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and focus on love, grace, and living a life that reflects Christ's teachings.
Five core values shape the church's life together:
- The Lordship of Jesus Christ. Every aspect of ministry seeks to honor and glorify Jesus as head of the church.
- Bible-centered preaching and teaching. The Bible is treated as the authoritative rule for what Christians believe and how they live.
- Prayer. Personal and corporate prayer undergirds every ministry and activity.
- Evangelism and world missions. The Great Commission drives outreach locally, nationally, and worldwide.
- The family. The family is seen as God-ordained, and the church cultivates an atmosphere of spiritual growth within families by reaching, discipling, and teaching each member.
The church's theological roots are reflected in its blend of worship - drawing on traditional Baptist values while embracing contemporary expressions of faith, a hybrid that creates room for heartfelt, expressive worship and Bible-based preaching.
Education and the Mimi's Learning Center Connection
Education runs alongside ministry at Koinonia. Linda Jordan serves as Director of Education, co-leading the weekly Bible Study and co-teaching Biblical Black Studies. The church also points visitors toward Mimi's Learning Center, a school linked to the Koinonia community that serves as an extension of the church's investment in children and families.
Listening and Learning Online
For those who cannot be on campus, the church keeps its teaching close at hand. Services and a 24/7 gospel radio station are available online. A library of sermons - including titles such as "Fear of God is the Beginning of Wisdom," "Learning How to Pray the Lord's Prayer," "Wisdom for Overcoming Temptation," "The Power of Words and the Power of Silence," and "So That Whoever Believes in Me May Not Remain in Darkness" - is organized by category (Topical, Textual, Narrative, and Expository) and can be streamed from the sermon archive.
Worship and teaching can be watched live on the church's YouTube channel. Giving is available online through the church's secure giving portal, with options for one-time and recurring gifts supporting the ministries and campaigns of the Village. The church's Facebook page and Instagram feed keep the wider community connected between Sundays.
What to Expect as a Visitor
First-time visitors are welcomed across every entrance of the Village. The dress code is "come as you are." Sunday School and youth group activities are available for children through the Kingdom Builders Youth Ministry. Services last about an hour and a half and include music, prayer, Bible-based preaching, and fellowship. The church is open to everyone - whether a lifelong believer, a curious seeker, or someone looking for a church home. Membership classes are offered for those who wish to join the church family and learn more about the mission, beliefs, and opportunities to get involved.
Stewardship and Mission Giving
Generosity is treated as a way of life at Koinonia. The church frames its giving with the line "WE GIVE because GOD GAVE FIRST," echoing the Franciscan saying that it is in the giving that we receive. A series of standing campaigns supports both local ministry and global mission work, including Children's Outreach Summer Camp, Discipling Youth and Young Adults, Equipping Church Leaders, Help Families Today with Critical Relief, Sustaining Church Hospitals and Schools, and University Scholarships for At-Risk Youth. Online giving is available at any time through the church's giving page.
The Heart of the Village
From its long-running women's and men's ministries to its prison teams and recovery groups, Koinonia Worship Center & Village is built to wrap around people wherever they are. The seven-day-a-week rhythm, the 24/7 radio stream, the dozens of ministries, and the seven buildings across the campus all serve the same idea: that faith is lived in community, and that "It takes a Village." For more than three decades, that Village has been opening its doors in Pembroke Pines - and showing no sign of slowing down.
