A Southern Baptist Church on Woodland Hills Drive
Kingwood First Baptist Church sits at 3500 Woodland Hills Drive in the master-planned community of Kingwood, just north of Houston. Officially known as Kingwood First Baptist, the church is a congregation of the Southern Baptist Convention and partners with both the Union Baptist Association and the Tryon Evergreen Baptist Association locally. Its mission statement is simple and threefold: to glorify God through worship, discipleship, and mission, making disciples who make disciples and sharing the hope of Jesus with the world.
The church's identity runs on a rhythm of three Sunday touch points and a deep midweek menu of Bible study. On any given Sunday the campus hums with early worshippers, LifeGroup classes for every age, and a full musical ensemble leading the late service. Midweek, the same buildings host choirs, orchestras, women's classes, men's ministry, and youth activities under the banner of DiscipleLife.
Sunday on Woodland Hills Drive
Two Sunday worship services bookend the morning. At 8:00 a.m., the Early Worship gathering offers a quieter atmosphere with childcare available for preschoolers; that service takes a break during the summer months of June and July. LifeGroups meet across the campus at 9:30 a.m. for Bible study and fellowship for every age from birth through adults, and at 10:45 a.m. the Late Worship service fills the sanctuary with congregational singing led by a full band, choir, and orchestra, alongside childcare for children through third grade and Children's Worship for kids up to fifth grade.
Visitors can expect a come-as-you-are environment. The church is explicit that there is no dress code; on a typical Sunday you will see everything from shorts and jeans to dresses and suits. There is onsite reserved parking for visitors, and the church provides information about valet parking and overflow parking through its FAQ page. The "Yes! Card" on the church's site is the simplest way to let staff know you came, ask follow-up questions, or signal interest in serving.
DiscipleLife on Wednesday Nights
DiscipleLife is the church's Wednesday evening discipleship hour, running from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Courses come in short four-to-six-week formats and longer twelve-week studies, with classes tailored for women, men, and co-ed groups. Adult learners can also study alongside children's and student programming, and free childcare is offered through KidzLife so that the whole family can participate at the same time.
Women'sLife, the women's ministry, gathers twice on Wednesdays. A morning Bible study meets from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and an evening group meets from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., both with free childcare for participants. For men, G.P.S. Men's Ministry is built around Glorify God, Praise God, Serve God, and offers fellowship, monthly events, Bible study, mentorship, and retreats throughout the year.
Worship Led by Band, Choir, and Orchestra
Worship at Kingwood First is intentionally blended. Each service combines congregational singing, prayer, and Scripture-centered music drawn from psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. The Worship Ministry is led by Worship Pastor Aaron Lybrand and is organized into three teams.
- Worship Band and Orchestra. Musicians serve as part of the band and orchestra to lead congregational worship each week. Auditions and scheduling are coordinated through the worship pastor.
- Worship Choir. The choir leads regularly in Sunday services and special events. No audition is required; the only prerequisites are a heart for worship and a desire to serve. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
- Tech, Media, and Production. Volunteers run sound, video, lighting, and the livestream from the sound booth. Training is provided, and new volunteers are always welcome.
Services are livestreamed on the church's YouTube channel, so members who are traveling or homebound can worship alongside the gathered congregation.
Children, Students, and Families
Children's ministry at KFBC is led by Children's Pastor Eric Larson with Children's Ministry Associate Melissa Mcleod. Sunday programming includes childcare during both worship services, Children's Worship during the 10:45 a.m. service for kids up to fifth grade, and age-appropriate LifeGroups at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday nights add KidzLife, the children's component of DiscipleLife, which runs alongside adult classes so that families can attend church together.
Student Pastor Brian Pearce oversees ministry for teenagers, and KFBC students have their own presence on the church's campus during both Sunday LifeGroups and Wednesday DiscipleLife. A separate Mother's Day Out program, directed by Abby Cleverly, serves preschoolers during the week and gives families an early connection to the church.
What KFBC Believes
Kingwood First Baptist's doctrinal foundation is built on the Baptist Faith & Message, and the church summarizes its convictions under four headings. The Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God and the final authority for belief and life. There is one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and salvation is a gift of grace received through faith in Jesus Christ alone, whose death and resurrection provide forgiveness and new life. The church itself is a community of baptized believers who gather to glorify God, grow as disciples, and share the good news of Jesus with the world.
The church observes two ordinances. Baptism is an act of obedience for every believer and is practiced by immersion in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as a public declaration of faith. The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of worship in which believers remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and look forward to His return. Membership is open to anyone who has placed faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and has been baptized by immersion by a body of believers.
Missions Near and Far
Missions are organized under Discipleship and Mission Pastor Pat Cammarata and reach from the church's own neighborhood to the other side of the world. KFBC currently supports three church plants: one in Roman Forest near New Caney serving southeast Montgomery County, a Spanish-language church plant in Cleveland reaching the Terrenos Houston community, and a church plant in Khon Kaen, Thailand, that serves through semi-monthly outreaches, English teaching, and music.
In the local community, the church partners with organizations including Kids Hope USA at Woodland Hills Elementary School, a pregnancy resource center in Houston, and a recovery and outreach ministry in Conroe. Beyond Houston, KFBC supports HOPE Charity, the Texas Baptists Bounce ministry, Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child as a collection center, and student disaster recovery trips through Under Over Fellowship and a Virginia partnership with First Baptist Pound. On the denominational level, the church cooperates with the North American Mission Board, the International Mission Board, Union Baptist Association, Tryon Evergreen Baptist Association, and Texas Baptists through the SBC Cooperative Program.
Getting Connected
For a first visit, the church's front door is the Plan Your Visit page, which lays out the Sunday schedule and the entrance that works best for families with children. A downloadable LifeGroup Locator maps every small group from birth through adults to its room on campus, and a midweek DiscipleLife sign-up page lists the current slate of courses. The church communicates events through its Church Center calendar, and giving is available online. Office hours run Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the church office is closed Friday and Saturday.
