In Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Hillside Baptist Church is known for traditional worship at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and for Sunday programs spanning newborn care through senior-adult fellowship. Located at 501 Hillside Church Road, the church was established more than a century ago, continues to grow, and centers its life on loving God, building people up, and sharing His love.
Traditional Sundays at 11:00 and 6:00
Hillside labels both Sunday gatherings the Traditional Service. Its music blends traditional hymns from a hymnal with contemporary choir arrangements. The 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. services are accompanied by age-specific children's and youth classes at those same times, and sermon recordings are also available.
Connection Groups and Sunday School at 10:00
At 10:00 a.m., the Connection Groups are also presented as Sunday School and Bible study groups for babies through senior adults. Classes include options for men, women, couples, new believers, children, and young adults. Hillside calls these groups its best way to connect with other believers.
Nursery at Two Times, Children and Youth at Three
Nursery care for newborns through 4K is provided at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Children in 5K through fifth grade meet at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.; their lessons about Jesus use songs, games, crafts, videos, and Bible study. Sixth through 12th graders also meet at all three times and are taught to know God and His word in a way connected to personal life.
Two seasonal Drama Club courses end with a live performance. Vacation Bible School summer camp also offers nursery classes for newborns through 4K.
Traditional Hymns and a Contemporary Choir
The choir is open to anyone in fifth grade or older and practices at 5:00 p.m. every Sunday. A weekly women's fitness class, annual retreats for women and men, Young at Heart fellowship for seniors, and an annual women's community conference create other regular opportunities to gather.
More Than a Century of Shared Values
Hillside seeks to put God first in all areas of life and offers programs intended to help people thrive personally, grow spiritually, and cultivate relationships with other Christians. It identifies with the Southern Baptist Convention. Its vision is a day when all people in the Hillside community are in a growing relationship with Christ and His family; its mission is to grow together in Christ.
Hillside's six values shape its shared life:
- Spiritual accountability
- Prayer centered
- Growing together
- Loving through action
- Taking a bold stance
- Guiding younger generations
Hillside does not expect a perfect person to enter, but it prays for a revived person to leave.
Prayer, Outreach, and Shared Work
Monthly prayer meetings are held at the church, and community prayer walks are also held monthly. Outreach includes middle-school Released Time, free family events, Secret Sister women's ministry, family sponsorships around Thanksgiving and Christmas, and Meals on Wheels. Mission support includes International JOY Boxes, school-supply collections, a supply drive for Crisis Pregnancy Center, and backpack blessings for local students.
These ministries flow from Hillside's values of prayer, accountability, spiritual growth, and loving through action. The church continues to organize its life around younger generations, relationships among Christians, and practical service to families and seniors.
