Grace Walk Church: A Growing, Multi-Generational Congregation on Lower Buckeye Road in Phoenix

Pentecostal Church in Phoenix, Arizona

Grace Walk Church is a non-denominational congregation on the west side of Phoenix that holds three identical Sunday services at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 a.m. and runs ministries for children, students, men, women, marriages, and Celebrate Recovery.

About Grace Walk Community Church

Sundays at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 on West Lower Buckeye Road

Grace Walk Church meets on the west side of Phoenix in a building of its own on West Lower Buckeye Road, just south of the Salt River and a short drive from Tolleson, Laveen, and Avondale. Three identical services are offered each Sunday morning at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 a.m., giving neighbors across the West Valley a way to pick the hour that fits their week. The church describes itself as non-denominational and as a multicultural congregation that has grown steadily under the leadership of Pastor Joe Calloway and his wife, Tammy.

The church's mission is stated plainly on its main page: "Winning Souls to Christ, and Making Them Winners In Life." That twofold aim shapes everything from the three Sunday services to the children's check-in desk, from the weekly Celebrate Recovery meeting to a network of life groups meeting in living rooms across Phoenix, Avondale, Laveen, and Goodyear.

From a Nearby School to a Building of Their Own

Grace Walk began meeting in a nearby school before moving into its current building. The Calloways, who are now Grace Walk's lead pastors, oversaw the transition from that rented space to the present campus, and the church credits their leadership for the congregation's continued growth. Today, Grace Walk describes itself as a thriving, multicultural body that takes seriously its mission to influence people toward Christ through Christ-like character and genuine friendliness.

The campus itself sits at 7840 W. Lower Buckeye Road, Phoenix, AZ 85043, with a phone line at (623) 907-8991 and a fax line at (623) 907-2232. The church office is open Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to the main sanctuary, the building includes a dedicated Kids building for grades-school children and shared spaces used by the nursery, preschool, and weekly recovery ministry.

What Grace Walk Believes

Grace Walk's statement of faith consists of six short articles. The Bible is the inspired, error-free Word of God "written" as men were moved by the Spirit. The church affirms one God who exists in three distinct persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and holds that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became flesh to reveal God and to be the Savior of the world. Human beings, created in the image of God for relationship with Him, are alienated from Him through sin and unable to restore that relationship on their own.

Salvation, the statement continues, comes through the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross, offered freely to all who place faith in His death and resurrection as full payment for sin. Christians are called to live for Christ rather than for themselves, to obey Scripture, and to yield daily to the Holy Spirit so that they "grow and be conformed to the image of Christ." The church itself is described as the body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head, with a mission to glorify God by loving Him and making Him known to the lost world.

Three Sunday Services and a Live Stream

On any given Sunday morning, the lobby is staffed by a Guest Services team ready to greet first-time visitors. The three Sunday services - 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 a.m. - share the same worship set and message, so newcomers can pick the time that works best for their family. Attire is "come as you are," and there is no dress code. Family worship is treated as the norm, with classrooms available for the youngest children.

Each service is also livestreamed online, so people traveling, recovering at home, or living outside the Phoenix area can still worship with Grace Walk week to week. Archived sermons are posted on the church's YouTube channel, and a direct text-to-give number, (602) 899-1112, is published alongside the online giving page for those who want to support the church's work during or after a service.

A Place for Kids, From Nursery Through Twelfth Grade

Grace Walk runs an unusually full children and student ministry for a church of its size. Nursery care is provided for children ages 0 through 5 during every service, while Kid's Church, for children ages 6 through 12, meets in the Kids building and includes its own video teaching, music, hands-on activities, and group discussion. On a first visit, parents check in at one of the Guest Services computers in the lobby, where they receive a child's name tag, a security pickup tag, and a bag tag for diaper bags or personal items. Parents of children with allergies or special needs are asked to alert the staff when checking in. The church provides snacks during each service but does not administer medication, and parents are asked to keep their phones on vibrate in case a teacher needs to reach them.

Grace Walk Student Ministry gathers middle and high school students on Sundays at 10:00 and 11:30 a.m., alongside the main services, and again on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The student ministry is led by Director Desi Cruz and is pitched to students in 7th through 12th grade with language about unlocking potential, making an impact, having honest conversations about faith, and having fun with friends. Parents and students wanting more information can reach the director directly at desi@gracewalkchurch.org. A separate life group called the Fishing Group, for junior high and high school boys, meets on the first Saturday of each month at 6:00 a.m. for fellowship, discipleship, and the activity hinted at in its name.

On top of its own programs, Grace Walk partners with Elite Preschool, an on-site preschool program that shares the campus and shares staff oversight with the church. Angela Jimenez serves as Preschool Director, and the preschool can be reached through its own website at elitepreschool.org.

Life Groups Across the West Valley

Beyond Sunday morning, Grace Walk organizes its adult ministry around Life Groups - small gatherings that meet in homes, on Zoom, and at parks across the West Valley during three scheduled "sessions" each year. The groups run in roughly four-month blocks: Session A from January 1 to April 12, Session B from May 1 to August 9, and Session C from September 1 to December 13. The idea behind them is that spiritual transformation is not meant to happen in isolation, and the groups are described as the main way the church helps people apply Sunday's teaching during the week.

The catalog of life groups is wide. Vent to Verses meets every other Thursday at 6:30 p.m. near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road and begins each gathering with worship music before moving into teaching and prayer for personal needs. Maximized Manhood, a men's group using the Christian Men's Network curriculum, meets weekly on Mondays at 7:00 p.m. near El Mirage Road and Lower Buckeye Road in Avondale. A men's Bible study using Blue Letter Bible and trusted commentary meets Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. near 119th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, and a Laveen men's Bible study does the same near 35th Avenue and Southern. A Young Adults group for ages 18 to 28 gathers on Mondays from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. near Coldwater Springs Boulevard and Avondale Boulevard.

Women's groups include "How God Prepares You For Marriage," a study for women who are single, dating, engaged, or married, meeting Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. near 71st Avenue and Superior Avenue; a Zoom Prayer group for intercessors that meets Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.; "Girl, Read Your Bible!," a weekly women's Bible study on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. in Laveen; a Women's Bible Study using Blue Letter Bible and YouVersion on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. near 119th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road; and "Scripture & Sunrise Sisters," a hiking Bible study that meets on the first Saturday of each month. Other groups include The Fruit Group, a Wednesday-evening fellowship and potluck for families near 79th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road; a Singles Group meeting the third Saturday of each month in Laveen; Huddle & Hoops, a Thursday-evening basketball group; and a Golfing Group for men of all skill levels.

A Marriage Maintenance life group meets monthly on Saturday evenings at 6:00 p.m. as a recurring date night for couples, with activities chosen by the members, from dinner and hikes to festivals and live music.

Men's, Women's, and Marriage Ministry

Beyond the life groups, three of Grace Walk's standing ministries meet once a month and are open to anyone in the church or community who wants to attend. The Men's Ministry gathers on the first Saturday of every month at 9:00 a.m. for a monthly breakfast with guest speakers, and a separate Maximized Manhood Bible study meets on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. for men who want to go deeper on topics like pornography, adultery, television addiction, and Christian leadership at home. The women's gathering, Unique Women of Grace, meets on the second Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the main sanctuary for brunch, fellowship, and mentoring. Free childcare is offered for children ages 0 through 9 so that mothers can attend without arranging their own sitters.

The Marriage Ministry is led by Jesus and Regina Santana, who hold certifications from N.A.M.E. and a specialty in blended-family counseling. Between them they have more than two decades of involvement at Grace Walk, and Jesus has served as a Celebrate Recovery counselor for eight years. The ministry offers pre-marital coaching, marriage coaching, and periodic events such as the "Lessons in Love" gathering held Saturday mornings for couples - whether they have been married for one year or fifty. Coaching appointments and specific event dates are arranged through the church office.

Celebrate Recovery on Friday Nights

One of the most visible ministries on the campus is Celebrate Recovery, a Christ-centered, twelve-step program aimed at anyone struggling with hurts, hang-ups, or habits. The Grace Walk chapter meets every Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at 7840 W. Lower Buckeye Road and is open to individuals 18 and older; the topics discussed are not appropriate for younger children, and childcare is not available for the meeting. The program follows the standard Celebrate Recovery structure - a large-group time for teaching or testimony, gender- and issue-specific open-share small groups, and a longer step study that runs at least thirty-six weeks on a separate night of the week. More than seven million people worldwide have been through the curriculum, and the church describes its own group as a "shoulder-to-shoulder," "face-to-face," and "heart-to-heart" community of recovery.

Missions in Kenya, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico

Outside its own neighborhood, Grace Walk supports a small portfolio of missionaries on a regular basis. Three mission partnerships include Rev. David and Jennifer Hatley, who serve with Christian Ministries in Africa in Kenya; Kim and Josie Pensinger with Dominican Advance in the Dominican Republic; and Pastor Ramon and Theresa Montoya with N.A.N.A. Ministry in Nogales, Mexico. The church supplements these partnerships with offerings taken for missions support and with periodic short-term trips, while continuing to emphasize outreach to neighbors on the west side of Phoenix.

The Pastoral Team and the Way Decisions Get Made

Grace Walk's pastoral staff is led by Pastors Joe and Tammy Calloway, who serve as lead pastors and whose story can be watched on the church's YouTube channel. Pastor Fred Calloway has served as associate pastor for more than twenty years; he and his wife, Rachel, are described as a couple whose decades of ministry together carry the wisdom of long service. Executive Pastor Nick Reynoso, who earned his bachelor's degree in Christian Studies from the College of Theology at Grand Canyon University and is pursuing a Master of Divinity through the Rawlings School of Divinity at Liberty University, oversees ministry strategy, operations, and leadership development. Reynoso also serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Second Lieutenant and Chaplain Candidate, and his wife, Yvette, has served alongside him in marriage and student ministry.

Below the pastors sit the ministry directors who oversee the day-to-day work of the church: Julia Cruz leads worship and creative media; Saul Soto leads Kids Church; Desi Cruz leads the Student Ministry; Shirley Verdugo leads the nursery; Roger Garcia leads men's ministry; Jesus and Regina Santana lead the marriage ministry; Alicia Cruz leads the women's ministry; and Angela Jimenez oversees the preschool. Pastor Don Chester leads Celebrate Recovery. Together they form the staff team that supports the church's growth-track process - a four-week course (101, 201, 301, and 401) for anyone wanting to become a member, discover their gifts, learn the essential beliefs, and connect with leaders who can help them live out their purpose. Steps of obedience beyond membership include water baptism and child dedication, both offered on a regular schedule through the events page.

Plan a Visit

For guests planning their first Sunday, the church's New Here page lays out the basics. Services run at 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30 a.m. in the main sanctuary at 7840 W. Lower Buckeye Road, with parking available on the campus and a Guest Services team ready to answer questions. Nursery (ages 0-5) and Kid's Church (ages 6-12) run during every service, and the Student Ministry gathers students in grades 7 through 12 at the 10:00 and 11:30 services and on Wednesday evenings. Worship is led by a full band, teaching is described as Bible-based and practical, and "come as you are" is the church's stated approach to attire.

Visitors who want to dig in can sign up for the Growth Track, join a Life Group that matches their stage of life, or simply attend one of the once-a-month men's breakfasts, women's brunches, or marriage events. Giving is available online, by text to (602) 899-1112, or in person at the services, and prayer requests can be submitted through the church's online form at any time of day. Whether someone is exploring faith for the first time, returning to church after years away, or looking for a place to put down roots on the west side of Phoenix, Grace Walk Church offers a wide front door and a simple next step for almost every stage of life.
