Fruitport Christian Reformed Church stands at 3520 E Pontaluna Road in Fruitport, Michigan, between Grand Haven and Muskegon, two blocks east of Edgewood Elementary and about five miles east of Hoffmaster State Park. It is known for 10 a.m. Sunday worship, free Wednesday dinners, an area food pantry, and an intergenerational church family that pairs Scripture and prayer with practical care for neighbors.
A Church Family Rooted in Grace
Fruitport CRC describes itself as a family rooted in grace, shaped by Scripture, and passionate about loving the community well. It holds that faith in Jesus grows best when it is lived together, which is why weekly worship, shared meals, the pantry, and discipleship across generations belong to one shared life.
Its welcome is especially attentive to people carrying wounds from past church experiences. Those exploring faith, returning after time away, or looking for a church home where community matters are invited into what Fruitport CRC calls a safe, gentle place for “church refugees” to rest, heal, and rediscover their gifts.
Sunday Worship at 10
Sunday worship begins at 10 a.m. in the traditional sanctuary, which has heating and air conditioning. The service normally spans just over an hour. Its Reformed liturgy often includes:
- God's Call to Worship
- Opening Prayer
- God's Greeting
- Confession and Assurance or Creed
- Congregational Prayer
- Offering, which is optional
- Scripture and Sermon
- Prayer of Application
- Prayer of Dedication or Commitment
- God's Parting Blessing
At 9:30 each week, coffee time is available before worship and again afterward. Visitors can bring a travel mug or take one home. Volunteer hosts can be arranged in advance for people who would like to sit with someone before their first visit.
Worship is Christ-centered, Scripture-centered, prayer-centered, praise-centered, and relationship-centered. Scripture includes both Old and New Testaments, and the congregation's songbook blends Psalms, traditional hymns, and newer spiritual songs. Members support one another in prayer for shared needs.

Welcoming Visitors and Families
Clothing tends to be casual, including jeans or shorts and business casual. Nursery care is available on request from safe-screened volunteers. Children are always welcome to stay in worship, where crayons and coloring pages are provided, and families may also bring their own activities.
Special-needs individuals are welcome regardless of age, disability, or the way they express themselves. Vocal interruptions are treated as normal and expected, and the church seeks to host everyone well. All areas of the building except the pulpit area are wheelchair accessible.
The church office is at the same address and can be reached at 231-865-6548 or office@fruitportcrc.org.
Communion and Baptism
The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper is celebrated every six to eight weeks. All who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to participate, including children. Baptism is scheduled in advance with the pastor and elders.
Wednesday Nights Around the Table
Fruitport CRC's free community dinner is held on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Most dinners are served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and no one has to pay or eat alone. The meal models the hospitality of Jesus Christ and welcomes people to a shared table.
Menus change. Examples have included chili with turkey soup and a salad bar, pork roast dinner, and a potluck. At potluck nights, people are welcome whether or not they bring a dish because there is always plenty. Weekly menu reminders are available by phone through One Call.
A Pantry at the Heart of Community Care
Fruitport CRC hosts the area food pantry, one of the ways it builds bridges with local schools, other churches, and community groups. The congregation describes this neighborhood work as an expression of the Fruits of the Spirit: binding people together and seeking to love and help neighbors. Pantry donations can be made through online giving.
Activities Across the Weeks and Months
The Fruitport Cadet Boys' Club, whose motto is “Living for Jesus,” meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., September through May, except for the first Wednesday of the month. Designed for boys in grades 1 through 8, it gives boys a dedicated place in the church's Wednesday life.
- Women's Coffee Break meets at church on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon for a recurring series.
- Men's Breakfast is a monthly gathering at an area restaurant.
- Watercolor Paint Class meets twice monthly on Thursdays and welcomes both women and men.
Rooted in Scripture and the Reformed Confessions
As members of the Christian Reformed Church, Fruitport CRC seeks to celebrate God's love in Jesus Christ. Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, is its guide for living. The church summarizes key beliefs in the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed, and its doctrine follows Scripture as summarized by the Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession, and Canons of Dort.
Its central account centers on Jesus Christ tearing down the walls between humanity and God caused by sin. Through Christ's sacrifice, people are forgiven and offered new life in him. Alongside that belief, the church seeks to live out the Fruits of the Spirit by binding people together and loving and helping neighbors.
Fruitport CRC's shared life is built around Christ, Scripture, prayer, praise, service, and room for people who need to heal. Its identity is both local and active: worship on Sunday, a welcoming table on Wednesday, a pantry serving the area, and ministries that place children, women, men, and boys within one church family.
