Two Sunday Services on Carlson Drive
Fremont Presbyterian Church gathers on a single Sacramento campus at 5770 Carlson Drive, where a sanctuary, the Community Life Center, classrooms, and a longtime onsite nursery school share the same site. The congregation meets each Sunday around a steady dual rhythm: a 9:00 AM Classic Service and a 10:30 AM Modern Service, with most adult education classes meeting in the chapel during the "opposite hour" so that members can take part in both.
Dave Pack serves as Pastor. He is joined by an Executive Minister, Nicole Dorway, and by Matthew McCleary, Associate Pastor for Congregational Life. The wider staff includes a Minister for Mission and Evangelism (Adam Willard), a Minister to Students and Families (Maddie Fitzpatrick), a Minister to Children and Families (Debbie Rattan), a Minister of Music and Worship Arts (Rachel Jackson), a Minister of Modern Music and Technical Director (Jordan Skinner), and a Pastoral Resident for College Ministry (Peter Ndaita). Governance rests with the Session, made up of teaching elders (pastors) and three classes of three ruling elders, each serving three-year terms; current elders include members of the Classes of 2026, 2027, and 2028.
Classic and Modern Worship
The Classic Service at 9:00 AM is led each Sunday from September through June by the Sanctuary Choir, with an 8:00 AM call time for singers from eighth grade through adult. Pat Grimm serves as the church's organist. An order of worship is posted online for those who want to follow along. The Modern Service at 10:30 AM is led by Jordan Skinner and runs alongside it. Families with children of any age are welcome in either service; nursery care is offered for children up to age three, children ages three through five attend Sunday School in the nursery school rooms, and elementary students in kindergarten through sixth grade begin the service with their families before following volunteers to their classrooms.
Adult Education Between the Hours
An adult education class meets at 9:00 and 10:30 AM in the chapel during the hour a member is not in worship so that every congregant can pair one worship service with either a class or a serving commitment. Recent series have moved through the prayers of Paul, working through five "Ps" of prayer - priorities, passion, perseverance, power, and purpose - and inviting the class to align its prayer habits with Paul's example. Other recent midweek teaching takes place on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM in Ferguson Hall as part of "Wednesdays at Fremont," an all-ages gathering that Pastor Dave Pack and other teachers lead through books such as Philippians and Ephesians.
Children, the Onsite Nursery School, and Wednesday Nights
Fremont's children's ministry is built around a "Know, Grow, Show" vision - each child is invited to come to know Jesus personally, to grow in faith, and to show His love to others. Sunday programs include Kids Worship at 9:00 AM for kindergarten through fifth grade (meeting in Westminster and checking in at the arcade breezeway) and Sunday School at 10:30 AM in color-coded rooms - Blue for kindergarten, Green for first and second, Purple for third and fourth, with fifth grade upstairs in Westminster. Preschoolers work through "Bible Studies for Life," kindergarten through fourth graders use "The Biggest Story" curriculum, and fifth and sixth graders (Mix56) walk through "Be Bold," a preteen series that affirms each child's questions while building community.
Nursery care is open during both Sunday services for children up to age three. On Wednesdays, KidsConnect runs from 6:15 to 7:30 PM for children age four through fourth grade, and Mix56 meets at the same hour for fifth and sixth graders. Nursery and childcare are also provided for children from birth through pre-kindergarten so that parents can attend a Life Group.
Fremont Nursery School shares the Carlson Drive campus and operates its own preschool programs five days a week. Three-year-olds who are potty trained can attend on a two-day (Tuesday/Thursday) or three-day (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) schedule; a Junior Kindergarten serves four-year-olds and young fives who would benefit from another year before kindergarten; and an optional extended-care program runs from 12:00 to 2:30 PM. Scholarships are available. The school describes its approach as play-based, with attention to physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual growth.
Junior High, High School, and the College Fellowship at Sac State
Junior High ministry gathers seventh and eighth graders in the CLC Youth Room for Bible study on Sundays at 9:00 AM and for youth group on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 7:45 PM. High schoolers meet Sundays from 9:00 to 10:00 AM in the CLC Living Room and again on Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the CLC Gym/Youth Room. Sunday nights combine games, worship, prayer, teaching, and small-group discussion; recent studies have moved through Genesis, and monthly leader Q&A panels open space for conversation about anything from dating to faith foundations. A Wednesday-night Bible study from 6:30 to 7:30 PM in Ferguson Hall, "Not by Might, but by the Lord's Power," walks high schoolers through 1 Samuel alongside adult congregants.
The Fremont College Fellowship ministers to students at California State University, Sacramento (Sac State). Sunday evenings from 4:30 to 6:30 PM in the Community Life Center Living Room include fellowship, teaching, music, and small-group time. During fall and spring semesters, weekly small groups meet on Mondays at 6:00 PM in an East Sacramento home (a five- to ten-minute drive from campus) or on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM in the College Ministry Room at Fremont (a ten-minute walk from the dorms). Both groups study a book of the Bible together and end before finals week.
Women's, Men's, and Senior Adult Ministries
Fremont's Women in Ministry coordinates several Bible study and fellowship options. Women at the Well meets Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Zoom, working through the New Testament. A Tuesday Bible Study gathers in two slots - 10:00 AM to noon in the Purple Room, and noon to 1:00 PM in E210. A Thursday evening Bible Study meets from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in E212. Lectio Divina is offered Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM online. The Well, a fellowship led by Michelle Jackson, meets on the first and third Mondays from 10:00 to 11:30 AM in the CLC Living Room. A Labor of Love Bible study during the fall walks participants through the experience of Pashtun women.
Men's ministry centers on Trek, a Friday-morning gathering in Ferguson Hall from 6:15 to 7:45 AM that blends Bible study, prayer, accountability, and mentoring; a retreat weekend at South Lake Tahoe is held periodically. Senior adults gather for Prime Time on Thursdays from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM in Ferguson Hall, with dominoes, cards, a 10:00 AM Bible study, and a sack lunch. EPICC ("Experienced People in Christ's Community") meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:00 PM in the Geneva Room for conversation about faith and culture. FIRS, a monthly senior luncheon, takes place on the second Thursday at 11:30 AM in Ferguson Hall. A Caregiver's Support Group meets over Zoom on the first and third Mondays of each month.
Choirs, the Fremont Music Academy, and Art of Faith
The Fremont Music Academy is a community music school that meets Monday evenings during fall and spring semesters. Beginning Band for fifth grade through adult, led by Director Kevin Glaser, runs from 4:00 to 4:40 PM; Intro to Strings and a Beginning String Orchestra (fourth grade through adult), led by Emilie Simmons, run alongside it. The Community Symphonic Band (4:50 to 5:50 PM), the Community Symphonic Orchestra (6:00 to 7:00 PM), and the Community String Orchestra (7:00 to 8:00 PM) open intermediate and advanced repertoire to youth and adults. Free public performances are given at the church throughout each semester.
Fremont also operates several choral ensembles for children, youth, and adults. Wiggling Worship, for kindergartners and younger with a parent or guardian, meets Wednesdays from 5:15 to 5:45 PM in the Purple Room. Music 'N Motion, for grades one through five or six, meets Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in Westminster Hall. Sounds of Praise, the youth choir for grades six or seven through twelve, rehearses on the first and third Sundays from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM in the Music Room. The adult Sanctuary Choir leads the Classic Service each week; a Christmas Choir joins community singers for "The Glorious Sounds of Christmas" concerts accompanied by full orchestra and pipe organ, typically the second weekend of December. Art of Faith, a writing fellowship for Christian writers of every style, meets on the fourth Saturday of each month at 1:00 PM in the Gathering Room.
Deacons, Stephen Ministers, and Prayer
Following the model of Acts 6, Fremont's deacon ministry organizes congregational care: greeting cards, communion preparation, rides to church or medical appointments for elderly or disabled members, meal trains for families in difficulty, blessing bags for neighbors without housing, and GriefShare support. The current deacon body is organized into three classes (2026, 2027, 2028), each serving three-year terms.
Stephen Ministry extends one-to-one Christ-centered care to people in the church and surrounding community who are facing grief, illness, job loss, hospitalization, divorce, or other crises. Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained by Stephen Leaders; each meets with one care receiver at a time, typically once a week for about an hour. The church operates a prayer team, hosts a monthly Prayer Meeting in the chapel, and stations a Prayer Banner Team in the lobby after each Sunday worship service for personal prayer.
Mission Partnerships Near and Far
Fremont supports local mission partnerships in the greater Sacramento area through its Local Mission Committee and a portfolio of global missionaries and organizations through its Go Global Team. The church sends a biennial medical team - doctors, dentists, nurses, allied health professionals, handymen, and teens - to Manchester Parish, Jamaica, to serve people with little or no access to medical care. Short-term trips also reach areas such as Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Ethiopia, often in partnership with campus ministries such as CRU, Athletes in Action, and InterVarsity. A multi-year trip to the Dominican Republic with ICDM is being planned for early 2027.
Upward Basketball, Volleyball, and Summer Camps
Fremont Recreation partners with Upward Sports to host youth basketball and volleyball leagues out of the Community Life Center Gym. Upward Basketball has run at Fremont for nearly two decades, with weekly practices, devotions, equal playing time, and balanced competition. Upward Volleyball serves fifth through eighth graders and offers both recreational and competitive divisions. Both leagues weave team huddles and short devotionals into practice time. Summer sports camps run on the same model during the summer break.
What Fremont Believes
Fremont Presbyterian Church affirms the Westminster Confession of Faith as the fuller statement of its beliefs. The congregation's published "Essentials of Our Faith" hold that the Bible, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is uniquely inspired by the Holy Spirit and is the supreme and final authority in matters of faith and life; that God is one God eternally existing in three Persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, who died for sin according to the Scriptures, rose bodily on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and now serves as High Priest and Mediator; that salvation is wholly dependent on God's grace through faith in Christ alone; that the true Church is the whole body of believers united in Christ and visibly expressed in local congregations where the Word is preached and the sacraments are administered; that Jesus will return personally, visibly, and bodily to judge the living and the dead; and that believers are commanded to proclaim the gospel and make disciples of every nation. The church distinguishes itself with the motto: "In Essentials - Unity, In Non-Essentials - Liberty, In All Things - Charity." Published position statements address what it means by the term "evangelical," standards for membership and ordination, women in ministry, marriage and divorce, a statement on hate, and biblical standards for church leadership.
Visitors, Giving, and the Podcast
First-time visitors can fill out a digital connect card or an "I'm New" form to be reached out to by the Connection Coordinator. Newcomer gatherings are held periodically in the Geneva Room, and membership classes are offered several times a year for those who want to learn more about the church. A 10-week Alpha course exploring the basics of the Christian faith runs on Sunday afternoons in the Geneva Room with childcare provided.
Giving is available online through the ShelbyNEXT platform, by texting "GIVE" to a dedicated number, through the ShelbyNEXT Giving mobile app, in person during Sunday worship, or by mailing a gift to the church office. The General Fund supports mission and ministry, the Building Fund supports campus improvements, and the Deacon's Fund helps members and neighbors with rent, utilities, food, car repair, gasoline, medical bills, or counseling.
Sunday services are livestreamed, and a podcast of sermons and elder devotions is available on Apple, Spotify, iHeart, TuneIn, YouTube, and Amazon Music. Past services are also archived on the church's YouTube channel.
