Foundry Church has been a steady presence in the Cy-Fair area of northwest Houston since 1979, growing from a single congregation on Jones Road into a multi-campus community that now also meets on Fry Road in Cypress. Its self-stated focus is simple and unchanged across nearly five decades: helping people know, follow, and share Jesus. Sunday mornings at Foundry offer three distinct worship services in English and Spanish, kids and student ministries meet at every hour, and a recovery ministry that began in 1988 still gathers ten separate support groups across both campuses each week.
Two Campuses, One Church in Cy-Fair
The Jones Road Campus sits at 8350 Jones Rd., Houston, TX 77065, and is home to the church offices, the Sanctuary, Foundry Hall, the preschool building, the Aldersgate Building, and the Refinery (the upstairs student space). The Fry Road Campus at 10203 Fry Road, Cypress, TX 77433 opened in 2013 and serves the fast-growing Bridgeland area of Cypress. Both campuses share the same preaching calendar, music resources, and staff team, and most adults attend whichever campus is closest to home.
Pastor Ray Hughes leads the overall church, with a campus pastor at each location. Luis Palomo serves as the Jones Rd. Campus Pastor, Kelly Long is the Jones Rd. Associate Pastor, and Andy Cunningham is the Fry Rd. Campus Pastor. Kelton Washington leads worship at Fry Road. The offices are open Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm, and the main phone line (713-937-9388) connects to either campus.
Three Styles of Sunday Worship
On Sunday mornings, the Jones Road Campus offers three services back to back. At 9:15 am the Traditional service fills the Sanctuary with liturgy, sacred music from many generations, and expository preaching in a classic format designed for the modern worshiper. At 10:45 am the Contemporary service moves to Foundry Hall, where the band leads newer worship songs in a relaxed, come-as-you-are atmosphere. At 1:00 pm Foundry en Español gathers for a fully Spanish-language service, with childcare available.
The Fry Road Campus offers two services each Sunday at 9:15 am and 10:45 am in a blended style that fits the neighborhood's mix of traditional and contemporary preferences. All three Jones Road services and both Fry Road services are streamed live each week so members traveling or homebound can keep up.
Foundry treats baptism and Holy Communion as the two sacraments Christ specifically commanded in the Gospels. Baptism is offered at any age, including infants, with parents, sponsors, and the congregation vowing to nurture the child until they confirm their own faith. Sprinkling, pouring, and immersion are all accepted. The congregation regularly renews baptismal vows at significant crossroads such as confirmation, membership, marriages, and Easter.
Kids Ministry from Nursery Through Fifth Grade
Foundry Kids welcomes children from birth through fifth grade and runs programming during every Sunday service hour at both campuses. The Foundry Nursery provides a safe, loving environment for the littlest attendees so parents can worship without worry. Ages three through five gather in Life Groups during both service hours, learning through centers and rotations designed for their developmental stage. Elementary children attend Life Groups at the 9:15 hour using the GROW Curriculum, then move into a larger-group Kids Worship setting at 10:45 with small-group breakouts afterward. Check-in opens fifteen minutes before each service.
The year includes more than Sunday programming. SuperStart draws fourth and fifth graders each winter, Vacation Bible School welcomes hundreds of children each June, and a movie and missions night fills one December evening. In the most recent year, 677 kids attended VBS, 272 volunteers served across the two weeks, and the average weekly Kids attendance was 165. Emely Orellana directs Kids Ministry at Jones Road, and Tammy Lovett coordinates volunteers at Fry Road.
Student Ministries and a 68 Percent Growth Story
Foundry Student Ministries, known as FSM, exists for middle school and high school students with a stated mission of helping them know, follow, and share Jesus so that by the time they leave the ministry their faith is fully their own. Sunday mornings include a 9:15 am FSM breakfast at Jones Road and 10:45 am small groups at both campuses (upstairs in the Refinery at Jones Road and in The Tower at Fry Road). Sunday nights at Jones Road run from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with games, teaching, and connection. Wednesday Bible studies meet at both campuses in gender- and age-specific groups, with an additional Monday high school study at Jones Road and an early Friday morning high school study at Fry Road. Average Sunday attendance across both campuses has grown 68 percent since 2024, reaching 64 students per Sunday, with Wednesday nights averaging 27.
The summer calendar includes a Confirmation class that begins each fall, retreats to Camp Eagle, and mission trips. Most recently, 34 students and adults served at Camp Beloved and Beyond, assisting campers with differing abilities during a week away from home. Andy Howard directs FSM at Jones Road, and Jason Perkins directs FSM at Fry Road.
A Recovery Ministry That Began in 1988
Foundry's recovery ministry is one of the longest-running parts of the church, dating back to a single Wednesday night AA meeting in 1988. Today it operates ten separate addiction support groups across the two campuses, open to anyone in the wider community. At Jones Road, meetings include a Tuesday men's-only AA gathering at 8:15 pm, a Wednesday AA open meeting and Al-Anon at 7:00 pm, a Friday NA open meeting at 7:00 pm, a Friday Gambler's Anonymous at 7:30 pm, and another men's-only AA at 8:15 pm. The Fry Road Campus hosts two AA open meetings, one Tuesday at 6:30 pm and another Friday at 6:30 pm. A Sunday afternoon Re/Mind group meets at 5:00 pm at Jones Road. Robert Ashley coordinates the ministry, and the church frames the work this way: Jesus is always the good news and the answer, and the role of the group is to help people see that connection.
Foundry Preschool: Christian Education Since 1983
Foundry Preschool is an outreach ministry of the church that has operated since 1983, currently enrolling children from 15 months through five years old at both campuses. The program follows the Cy-Fair ISD calendar, teaches basic biblical truths through song, story, and play, and uses age-appropriate outdoor play areas. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:15 am to 2:15 pm, with two-day, three-day, and four-day schedules available.
Tuition is published by schedule. Two-day options run $260 to $275 per month, three-day options run $390 to $405 per month, and the four-day Monday-through-Thursday option runs $535 per month. Amanda Horton is the Director of Schools, with Barb Hyltin as Associate Director at Jones Road, and Vivian Mueller and Dawn Perrin as Associate Directors at Fry Road. The preschool shares the same Christian curriculum philosophy that guides the rest of the church's children's work.
Music: Choir, Orchestra, and Bands
The Foundry Choir leads worship at the 9:15 Traditional service each Sunday and rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the choir room at Jones Road. No audition is required, just a love of music and a heart to serve. The choir also runs the Foundry Choral Leadership Program, a developmental program for advanced singers from Cypress Fairbanks ISD, now in its ninth semester.
An orchestra of volunteer string, brass, wind, and percussion players supports the Traditional services and special events. At the Contemporary services, vocalists and instrumentalists lead worship at both campuses. Alex Bruce directs the choir, Kelly Long coordinates instrumentalists, and Grace Covington leads the Contemporary worship team at Jones Road.
Foundry en Español
Foundry en Español describes itself as a place where people can know, grow, and love God with all their heart, and it operates as a full church-within-a-church at the Jones Road Campus. The Spanish service meets Sundays at 1:00 pm and Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, both with childcare available. A youth ministry for ages 12 to 17 meets Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and Sunday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Women's and men's ministries meet regularly for fellowship and Bible study, and an annual women's conference draws special guests.
A discipleship track called Afirmar, Fortalecer, Establecer, Perfeccionar (Affirm, Strengthen, Establish, Perfect) walks members through personal, spiritual, and ministry growth, with classes that are open to anyone who wants to take a next step. Gustavo Echemendia serves as the Spanish Pastor. The phone line for Foundry en Español is (713) 997-5619.
Discipleship: Groups, Bible 365, and the Walk to Emmaus
Foundry organizes adult discipleship around five group types. Study Groups are larger gatherings of 20 to 40 people meeting around Scripture or topical studies year-round. Short Term Groups of 15 to 20 meet for a defined season, often four to twelve weeks, around a specific study. Small Groups of 15 or fewer prioritize consistent connection, prayer, and shared life. Hybrid Groups blend the learning focus of Study Groups with the relational feel of Small Groups. Micro Groups of six or fewer create space for vulnerability, accountability, and intentional discipleship. In a typical year, 21 Life Groups with 461 people attending meet across the church.
Bible 365 is a church-wide initiative that walks the entire congregation through the whole Bible over the course of a year. Participants track daily readings through an app, gather for monthly Q&A sessions with pastors, and share reflections with the group. A separate Walk to Emmaus program offers a 72-hour spiritual retreat for adults. Women's ministry offers Bible studies, dinners, and a spring fellowship dinner; men's ministry runs a softball league, a kickoff dinner, and Cornhole nights.
Caring and Prayer: Stephen, Grief, Homebound, Between Jobs
A robust caring and prayer ministry surrounds members through every stage of life. Stephen Ministers are trained lay caregivers who walk alongside individuals facing crisis, providing one-on-one Christian care that is confidential and free. GriefShare meets for thirteen weeks and is open to anyone grieving the loss of someone close. A Homebound Ministry sends volunteers on the first Sunday of each month to bring the elements of communion to members who can no longer attend in person.
The Between Jobs Ministry partners with Between Jobs Ministry of Northwest Bible Church to offer Christ-centered job-skills training, networking, and encouragement for those seeking employment, meeting Wednesday mornings at 9 am. A weekly prayer and care email, weekly prayer cards, letters of encouragement, and campus prayer groups round out the prayer support. Caring@foundrychurch.org is the general email for these ministries.
Local and Global Missions: Cy-Hope, Costa Rica, Mexico, Sri Lanka
Foundry's mission work stretches from the surrounding Cy-Fair neighborhoods to four continents. Locally, the church helped birth Cy-Hope, a nonprofit that now serves students and families across the community through food assistance, school supplies, and seasonal outreach. Foundry also partners with Cy-Fair Helping Hands, where it hosts twelve services a year and sends worship teams and volunteers to feed hundreds of people. Hope Chest and Backpack Barn operate as ongoing volunteer opportunities for church members, and a backpack drive distributes hundreds of filled backpacks to children each summer.
The international partnerships run deeper than financial support. A partnership with the Evangelical Methodist Church of Costa Rica links Foundry to five churches in the Guanacaste Province (Liberia, Belén, Santa Cruz, Nicoya, and Quirimán), with more than forty members having served on mission trips and over $15,000 contributed. The long-term goal is to plant a new church in the region within two to three years. Other international partners include House of Mercy Orphanage in Coahuila, Mexico; Jacob's Well in Haiti; Catalyst for Africa; Novo; and Kofi Nials of the Methodist Church in Friendship Village, Guyana. A recent Christmas Eve offering of more than $27,000 was directed to relief work in Sri Lanka through FAMM and Foundry's mission partners.
Annual mission trips are a rhythm: a women's Costa Rica trip, Houston Serve Week for families, a student trip to Alaska, a family Costa Rica trip, a rehab ministry trip to El Refugio in Costa Rica, the House of Mercy Christmas trip, and a Sri Lanka unreached people groups trip. Foundry also actively sponsors 201 children through Compassion International.
NEXT: A Capital Initiative for the Next 47 Years
Foundry is in the middle of a capital initiative called NEXT, anchored in Matthew 6:33 and framed as investing in the future so the next generation of disciples can be formed in spaces designed for their growth. The campaign funds three building projects. At Jones Road, a new Welcome Area and Connection Space will join the Sanctuary Building with the Administration Building and Foundry Hall, creating nearly 3,000 square feet of indoor gathering space and clarifying the main entrance for first-time guests. The Jones Road gym will be expanded to a full-size basketball court to serve as a missional engagement hub for kids, students, and the surrounding neighborhood. At Fry Road, a new Kids Ministry Building will house elementary ministry and free up the current building for students and adults to expand their reach into Bridgeland.
Leadership and The Foundry Network
Pastor Ray Hughes leads the Foundry staff team, supported by a Leadership Team and a Board of Directors with chairs for Personnel, Finance, and Facilities. The Foundry Church Overseers are theologically trained, ordained clergy from outside the church who provide apostolic oversight and counsel to the Lead Pastor.
Foundry is part of The Foundry Network, a fellowship of like-minded independent churches in the Wesleyan tradition. The network gathers churches that share relational discipleship, sound theology, and a commitment to reawakening the movement of Christ in their communities. Foundry did not start the network, but its name reflects the churches' shared Wesleyan heritage. The church teaches that the local church should thrive, but also values real and authentic connection between like-minded congregations outside a large denominational structure.
Beliefs and the Foundry Statement of Faith
Foundry's stated mission is to help people know, follow, and share Jesus. The church teaches that everyone matters to God and that Jesus came to show God's love, to heal, and to teach how to live life to the fullest. Its mission statement of know, follow, and share shapes everything from the children's curriculum to the global partnerships.
The full Foundry Statement of Faith and Church Bylaws are publicly available, along with a Foundry Statement of Faith PDF and a Statement of Faith 2023 PDF. Two sacraments are observed: baptism as entrance into the family of Christ and Holy Communion as ongoing nourishment. Infant baptism is supported, and young people typically profess their faith through confirmation classes offered each fall at both campuses. This Is Foundry, the church's membership class, is offered at both campuses and runs from 2:00 to 5:00 pm on a Sunday afternoon.
Foundry Church's weekly rhythm of three Sunday services in English and Spanish, a Thursday grief support group, ten recovery meetings, a Wednesday night choir rehearsal, midweek Bible studies for every age, and an active preschool running since 1983 has shaped Cy-Fair for nearly half a century. The NEXT initiative signals that the church expects the next half century to look much the same: an expanding doorway for new families, a deeper commitment to the surrounding neighborhoods, and a steady call to follow Jesus in word and deed.
