First Baptist Church of South Lyon sits on Marjorie Ann Street in the small Oakland County town of South Lyon, Michigan, where for seventy years it has been gathering a community for worship and Bible teaching. The congregation marked its 70th anniversary in 2025 with a Homecoming Service and fellowship meal, a milestone that traces the church's roots in South Lyon back to the mid-1950s. Two pastors, Jason Meaux and Randy Weaks, share the shepherding of the flock, and a steady calendar of Sunday school, worship, midweek service, and women's Bible study shapes the week.
Two Pastors, One Long View
Pastor Jason Meaux came to First Baptist South Lyon seven years ago with his wife Aimee, to whom he has been married for twenty-four years. They have three children together. He holds a Master of Divinity and trained at William Carey College, Liberty Theological Seminary, and the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Outside the pulpit he reads, gardens, and keeps bees.
Pastor Randy Weaks has been part of First Baptist South Lyon since 1984, the longest tenure on the pastoral team by a wide margin. He first came on board part time, leading worship and the youth group. He went on to serve for thirty years as the Associational Youth Director for the Baptist Association, planning youth retreats and events across the state of Michigan. His greatest joys, he says, are his family, his church family, and the many ministry opportunities he has served in over the years.
Sunday Mornings and Wednesday Nights
The week centers on two regular rhythms. On Sunday, Sunday school begins at 9:45 a.m., followed by the worship service at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. On Wednesday evening, the church gathers again for a Wednesday Night Service at 6:00 p.m., running about an hour.
A women's Bible study meets in the church library every other Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The current study is taking the group through Ecclesiastes. Monthly member meetings follow the Sunday worship service for testimony, reports, and updates from the mission field.
Twice a year the church also lifts up two special traditions. On Christmas Eve, the congregation meets at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary to celebrate the first arrival of Christ. In early November the Fellowship Hall fills up for a Christmas Shoebox Packing Party, when volunteers pack shoeboxes with supplies to send to children around the world. Boxes and supplies are provided; the church simply needs willing hands to organize them.
Preaching Through Books of the Bible
The sermon archive shows a preaching pattern that works steadily through books of Scripture rather than hopping between isolated topics. In 2026 alone, Pastor Jason Meaux and Pastor Randy Weaks have walked the congregation through a long stretch of 1 and 2 Thessalonians, then a Fruit of the Spirit series drawn from Galatians 5, then four weeks in Jonah, then the opening chapters of Joshua. Titles along the way include "The Woman at the Well," "Gentle in Heart," "Being Found Faithful," "Revival in Nineveh," and "God's Covenant Kindness." Recent Easter preaching drew from Psalm 16.
Occasional guest preachers fill the pulpit as well. Bro. Bob Beddingfield brought a message from 2 Peter 3 titled "Facing Eternity Unafraid." The full archive, with audio, is available on the sermons page.
What the Church Believes
First Baptist South Lyon describes itself in three statements rather than one. The congregation adopts the Baptist Faith and Message as the essentials of the Christian faith. It adopts the Nashville Statement for its biblical view of marriage and sexuality. It also adopts the Dallas Statement on social justice and the gospel. Together those documents set the doctrinal boundaries the church draws around its teaching and life.
The church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention through its confession and its connections to a local Baptist Association, where Pastor Randy once served as youth director.
Getting to the Building
The church sits at 60820 Marjorie Ann Street in South Lyon, Michigan, with a mailing address of PO Box 331, South Lyon, MI 48178. The phone number is (248) 437-2983, and the general email is contact@fbcsouthlyon.com. Giving is set up online through the church's giving page. Sunday mornings offer a natural on-ramp: come for Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and stay for worship at 11:00 a.m., or simply slip into the worship service if arriving closer to the hour. Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. are the midweek gathering for anyone who wants to stay connected to the church family between Sundays.
