Love. Share. Serve. Make.
Mauldin First Baptist Church sits on South Main Street in the heart of Mauldin, South Carolina, a short drive from Greenville and a familiar landmark for anyone who has lived in the Upstate. The church has described itself as a loving, multi-generational family where the love of God leads its people to share Jesus, serve others, and make new disciples. Four short words hang on that vision like a roadmap: Love. Share. Serve. Make.
From that simple motto flows everything else on campus. Sunday worship pulls the family together. Community groups carry that worship into the week. A preschool through fifth-grade academy trains the next generation. A choir, a worship band, and a rotation of orchestral players shape what the church sings. And a steady stream of mission work, both local and global, keeps the family looking outward.
Sundays on South Main Street
The Sunday rhythm at Mauldin First Baptist is built around two anchor times. Sunday School gathers at 9:15 AM, with classes for preschoolers, children, students, and adults meeting across the building. Worship follows at 10:30 AM in the Worship Center, and the whole church family is invited to be in the room together.
Children in K5 through fifth grade begin the service in the Worship Center with their parents. Partway through, an announcement is made from the stage and the children are dismissed to a worship experience designed specifically for their age. Students in sixth through twelfth grade stay with their families in the main service on Sunday mornings and gather again that evening for youth ministry at 6:00 PM in the Youth Room.
The worship itself draws on a wide palette. The Worship Arts Ministry blends a choir, a mid-week rehearsal worship band, and a rotation of strings, winds, and brass. Songs like the recent hymn-of-the-month selections range from classic hymnody such as It Really Is Amazing Grace to modern worship songs like Nothing Else. Mauldin First Baptist describes the ministry's aim this way: when Christ is the treasure, He becomes the pleasure, and worship is the overflow.
For anyone who cannot be in the room, services are livestreamed online, and a sermon archive is available as well.
Coming for the First Time
First-time guests are invited to park in the main front lot connected to Owens Lane. That lot leads straight to Entrance A and the New Here Desk, where the Guest Services team will greet visitors, introduce them around, give them a tour of the building, and save a seat in the Worship Center. The team recommends arriving ten to fifteen minutes before the service begins so there is time to park, check in children, and find a comfortable spot.
The Welcome Center, located near Entrance A, holds information about everything happening at the church and houses the coffee bar. Visitors who want a preview can take a virtual video tour of the building, including the worship space and children's areas, before they ever step through the doors. Floor maps of the first and second floors are also available to help visitors find the Worship Center, the Mauldin Kids area, and ministry offices without stress.
On the question of what to wear, the church's answer is simple: come as you are. A few people dress up, a few dress down, and most are somewhere comfortably in between. Pre-registration is not required, though families who want a faster kids check-in can register their children ahead of time.
Mauldin Kids, Mauldin Youth, and the Academy Next Door
Children are a serious investment at Mauldin First Baptist. The Mauldin Kids ministry provides intentional, age-appropriate programming for preschoolers and elementary children, with hands-on learning experiences and a strong focus on safety. Every volunteer is carefully screened, and security personnel monitor the building during service hours. Childcare for newborns through K4 is available during both Sunday School and worship, with K3 and K4 children attending a Preschool Sunday service from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. K5 through fifth graders have their own Bible study at 9:15 and a children's worship service from 10:30 to 12:15, with pickup at the children's worship room at the end of the second-floor hallway.
For students in sixth through twelfth grade, MFB Youth meets Sunday evenings at 6:00 PM in the Youth Room. The ministry describes itself as a safe, loving, fun community where teens can find a relationship with God and others, grow in their faith, and be compelled to share that faith with people across the Upstate, the country, and the world. Highlights during the year include parent meetings, youth hikes, and pancake-and-pizza nights for younger kids in K5 through fifth grade. A weekly summer Vacation Bible School, Rainforest Falls, draws children who have completed K5 through fifth grade for four mornings of stories, music, games, and hands-on exploration.
Right alongside the church sits Mauldin Christian Academy, a ministry of Mauldin First Baptist. The academy provides an Early Learners Daycare for children six weeks through four years old, an Early Learners Preschool for three- and four-year-olds, and an elementary school serving kindergarten through fifth grade. Afterschool care is available for MCA students, and church members regularly volunteer by reading to students in the classrooms.
Worship Arts and the Songs They Sing
Music is treated as a discipleship tool here. The Worship Arts Ministry exists to glorify and honor God through music and to lead people into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. Three groups make up the ministry. The choir is open to adults age fourteen and up, with rehearsals scheduled around occasional events as the group ramps back up to weekly practice. The worship band rehearses mid-week and leads worship on Sunday mornings, with openings for lead and harmony vocals, drums, acoustic and electric guitars, bass, and auxiliary keys. The orchestral program pulls in strings, winds, and brass players who serve on an occasional basis across both morning services.
Each month the church highlights a hymn of the month, with Spotify links so the congregation can listen, learn, and prepare their hearts for Sunday. Past selections have included Faithfulness, Narrow Way, Christ Our Hope in Life and Death, Awake My Soul (Psalm 57), Song of the Saints, Rejoice, All My Boast Is in Jesus, I Will Wait for You, As for Me and My House, Christus Victor, My Worth Is Not in What I Own, and What He's Done. Anyone interested in joining the music ministry can reach Worship Pastor Howie Ohman at hohman@fbcmauldin.org.
Community Groups and Life Together
The church is upfront about how it builds real relationships: in small groups, not just in rows on a Sunday morning. Mauldin Groups meet in a variety of formats throughout the week and on Sundays. Some are Bible studies, others are discipleship or fellowship groups, and others gather around shared interests, but every group exists to help people grow closer to Christ and to one another. Visitors and newcomers are encouraged to find a group that fits their life stage, schedule, or neighborhood.
The four-step path that the church teaches its own members doubles as an invitation to newcomers. Step one is showing up: worship on Sunday at 10:30 AM or prayer on Wednesday at 4:30 PM, with no reservation needed. Step two is joining a community group to share real life with a smaller circle. Step three is serving in two directions, finding a ministry inside the church (such as the nursery, the homebound Handy Andy visits, reading at the academy, or the Audio/Visual team) and finding a mission outside the church through local partners, neighborhood associations, or mission trips. Step four is investing in relationships where disciples are made, looking for at least one person to personally walk through the next steps of faith.
Sonshine Seniors, Ladies, Men
Ministry at Mauldin First Baptist extends to every season of life. Mauldin Seniors stay busy. The Sonshine Fellowship meets on the first Tuesday of every month for a potluck lunch and a rotating program. Throughout the year the group takes trips to the beach, picks apples at local orchards, and travels to hear gospel concerts. Trips leave the church by bus at 9:30 AM and sign-ups go on the Senior Adult Bulletin Board.
Mauldin Ladies Ministries gives women a place to meet new people, worship, fellowship, and grow spiritually together, with a heart for serving the surrounding community and beyond. Mauldin Men brings men of every age and stage into Bible study, leadership opportunities, the Handy Andy ministry to homebound members, and short-term mission trips. The church says plainly that they need their men to be servant leaders and doers of the Word.
What They Believe
The teaching ministry at Mauldin First Baptist rests on a written statement of beliefs that covers the Trinity, the person and work of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, humanity, the church, the Kingdom of God, the Bible, salvation, baptism and the Lord's Supper, evangelism and missions, and partnership with other believers. The church holds that God exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that Jesus is the one and only Son of God, virgin born, sinless, crucified for our sins, bodily raised, and coming again personally and visibly to reign as Lord; and that the Holy Spirit inspired the Scriptures, illuminates truth, and empowers believers and the church for worship, evangelism, and service.
Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus, received by repentance and trust, with the true believer eternally secure. Baptism is taught as the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, an act of obedience symbolizing faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior and serving as a public testimony of faith. The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience in which bread and cup point back to Christ's death and forward to His second coming. Marriage is defined as one man and one woman. The church is described as an autonomous congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. While autonomous, Mauldin First Baptist chooses to partner with Baptist and other kingdom-focused organizations to more effectively take the gospel to the community and around the world.
Serving in Mauldin and Beyond
Serving is treated as a vital part of growing in faith. The Serve ministry opens doors to welcome guests, invest in the next generation, help behind the scenes, and support local and global outreach. Specific mission efforts include partnerships that pool resources with other churches and organizations, neighborhood service projects through local homeowners' associations, and the Handy Andy ministry that keeps the church connected to homebound members.
Two ongoing programs support the wider community. GriefShare is a weekly seminar and support group for people navigating the loss of a loved one, offering a safe, comforting place to talk with others who understand. Mauldin Neighbors, a community resource championed by the church, connects residents with local events, businesses, and the good things happening throughout the city.
Weddings, Facilities, and Staying Connected
The Mauldin First Baptist campus is used well beyond Sunday mornings. Weddings are hosted as a significant ministry, with active members, non-active members, and non-members each having their own price list and policies. Scheduling for weddings is first-come, first-served, with non-member dates set no more than three months in advance. The Fellowship Hall, located at the back of the building on the side nearest to Publix, hosts senior adult lunches, guest services trainings, church conferences, and other gatherings throughout the year. The building, audio/visual equipment, and church van are also available for member and ministry events.
There are several ways to stay connected through the week. The Mauldin First Baptist App, available on Apple and Android, carries the church calendar, a directory, event registration, group discovery, and volunteer team communication. Text-to-give is available by texting GIVE and any amount to 1-855-608-5687, with online giving and in-person gifts at the church office as additional options. A printed and digital newsletter, The Herald, features stories of changed lives, answered prayers, and ministry highlights from across the church family.
For prayer needs, anyone can submit a request through the church, and the church also posts short topical articles on questions of faith and everyday Christian living, including studies on prayer, doubt, forgiveness, peace, mental health, the end times, and the problem of good things happening to bad people.
Next Steps
Anyone exploring membership or simply wanting to know more about the church is invited to Discover MFB, a Saturday gathering that walks through the story and vision of the church, introduces the leadership team, explains the core beliefs and membership process, and answers questions. Those ready to take the next step of faith are invited to believer's baptism by immersion as a public declaration of what Christ has already done. And on the second Sunday of each month, a New Here Gathering offers a relaxed setting to meet other newcomers and some of the church's leaders without any sign-up required.
