Three Sunday Services on Prairie Lea Street
First Lockhart Baptist Church gathers at 315 West Prairie Lea Street in Lockhart, the seat of Caldwell County in central Texas. The congregation runs three Sunday morning services in two languages. An English-language worship service begins at 8:00 a.m. in the main sanctuary, and at 10:30 a.m. the same sanctuary hosts a second English service while a simultaneous Spanish-language service meets at the Connection Center, 200 South Blanco Street. Sunday School for all ages starts the morning at 9:00 a.m., and a "Halftime Fellowship" with coffee and snacks fills the fellowship hall from 10:00 to 10:25 a.m. so newcomers can meet friends before worship begins.
Senior Pastor David Peyton describes the welcome in plain terms. "At each service we gather for meaningful worship to study God's word. We reach out with the heart of ministry to care for our neighbors in the name of Christ here and around the world. We have fun and fellowship in a variety of activities ranging from dinners to sporting events. As we work and worship together we find that our faith grows as we enjoy friends old and new."
What Sunday Morning Looks Like
Greeters stand at the doors ready to direct first-time guests, and the church reserves parking spots near the front entrance for visitors. Each service includes a time of prayer, preaching, and giving, with a sermon built on Scripture rather than the speaker's own ideas. Musicians lead worship in a variety of styles, and the congregation is described as "laid back and friendly" - people love to sing and engage the Lord together.
What people wear ranges from business formal to business casual, but the church is quick to say that the priority is presence, not wardrobe. "We are more concerned about you and your presence with us than we are with what you wear." Nursery care is provided during worship for infants and toddlers, and Children's Church is available during the 10:30 a.m. services for children birth through four years old.
What the Church Believes
The church holds to the Baptist Faith and Message, the confession of the Southern Baptist Convention, and summarizes its core beliefs on its own pages. Members affirm that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments were inspired by the Spirit of God as originally written and that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct. They believe in one God - holy, sovereign, and eternal - existing in three equal Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ is confessed as fully God and fully man: existing eternally with the Father, active in creation, born of a virgin, living a sinless life, dying a substitutionary death, rising bodily, ascending triumphantly, and returning personally. The Holy Spirit is likewise fully God and a personal being who convicts of sin, regenerates, indwells, seals, sanctifies, illuminates, and comforts believers. The church teaches that Adam was divinely created in God's image, that his disobedience brought inherited depravity on all his posterity, and that all people therefore stand guilty and condemned before God.
Salvation is received by grace alone through faith in the all-sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and those whom God effectually calls are divinely preserved and ultimately perfected in His image.
Leadership
David Peyton has served as Senior Pastor since August 2020. Before moving to Lockhart he spent years on the worship ministry staff of another church and then completed a second master's degree at seminary in December 2019. He and his wife Wendy have been married since 1996 and have five children: Hannah, Marie, Jameson, Abigail, and Caleb.
Justin Eason is the Student Pastor. A graduate of Wayland Baptist University, he holds an MDIV in Theology and Biblical Counseling from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Tammi have been discipling Lockhart students since 2009, and the couple have three daughters: Taylor, Macie, and Emma.
Ramon E Rivera serves as Hispanic Ministries Pastor, leading the Spanish-language worship service and the Wednesday night Estudio Biblico. Over the previous twenty years he has led worship ministry, youth ministry, and served as both Associate Pastor and Senior Pastor in other congregations.
Wendy Peyton, the Senior Pastor's wife, directs the children's ministry as a third-grade teacher by profession. Danielle Kimball directs the preschool and nursery ministry for infants through age five, drawing on more than fifteen years of experience in early childhood education and a particular heart for mothers in the early stages of parenthood.
FLBC Kids and Children in Action
On Sunday mornings, children gather at 9:00 a.m. for a high-energy time of worship, story, and small-group study with engaging teachers. During the 10:30 a.m. services, nursery care is offered for the youngest children, and older preschoolers and elementary-age students move to age-appropriate classrooms where the goal is to make Jesus real to them week after week.
On Wednesday evenings at 6:00 p.m., Children in Action (CIA) is a coed group for first through fifth graders designed to bring boys and girls to faith in Christ while making missions part of their daily lives. The kids study Scripture, pray for missionaries around the world, and serve their own community through hands-on projects. The motto is "Send Me!" - and the children live it out.
FUSION Student Ministry
Teenagers meet Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Connection Center under Student Pastor Justin Eason. FUSION, the youth ministry's weekly gathering, is designed to deepen students' understanding of the greatness of God and to encourage them in the pursuit of godliness. The youth also participate in the church's short-term mission trips and in regular fellowship events throughout the year.
Women's Ministry: Women of Worship
The women's ministry, known as WOW (Women of Worship), meets every Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. to study books of the Bible and selected topics together. A separate Wednesday night women's Bible study also runs during much of the year. Ladies' Night Out takes place on the second Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., rotating to a different restaurant each time for fellowship around a meal. Throughout the year the women also gather for outings such as thrift-store trips, a holiday swap meet, an Advent seminar, and a Ladies' Angel Exchange dinner in December.
Fishers of Men
The men's ministry, called Fishers of Men, hosts a monthly Men's Breakfast on the first Saturday of each month at 8:00 a.m. with a testimony and devotion. Men from FLBC also serve alongside Texas Baptist Men, helping neighbors in Lockhart with disaster relief and other hands-on projects. A men's Bible study meets Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. in the Parlor. The ministry regularly travels for retreats, including a recent gathering in Palacios.
Worship Ministry
The worship ministry anchors the Sunday gatherings. The team frames the weekly service as a foretaste of Matthew 18:20: "For wherever two or three are gathered in My name, I am there in their midst." Psalm 22:3 - "God inhabits the praises of His people" - shapes the musicians' understanding of their calling. The group includes vocalists, instrumentalists, and a percussion section; singers also rehearse together Wednesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. before the rest of the midweek ministries begin.
Reaching Out: Mexico, Spain, and Salt Lake City
Missions are central to FLBC's identity. The church collects supplies year-round for Casa Hogar, an orphanage in Mexico, with a bilingual shopping list of needs ranging from bath towels and laundry detergent to diapers, deodorant, dish soap, and durable sandals for rocky terrain.
In October the church sends a team to Segovia, Spain, to assist with a new church plant and to share the Gospel door to door. A separate team travels to Salt Lake City, Utah, late September through early October to engage Mormon neighbors in conversation about the truth of the Gospel. These trips are short-term, open to members who apply, and anchored in prayer before, during, and after the team returns.
Care and Fellowship Ministries
Two ongoing support groups walk alongside church members and friends in difficult seasons. The Grief Support Ministry meets at 2:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Pastor's Office. A Cancer Support Group meets at 2:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, also in the Pastor's Office. Both groups are open to anyone in the community who could benefit, not only to church members.
Each Wednesday evening at 5:00 p.m., the church hosts a Weekly Fellowship Meal in the Fellowship Hall. The meal is donation-based and offers families a night off from cooking before the midweek studies begin.
For those without transportation, a "Need a Ride?" ministry arranges rides to church. Visitors or members fill out a form with their address and the service they plan to attend, and a volunteer driver follows up.
Midweek in Two Languages
Wednesday night has become a hub of the church's life. At 5:00 p.m. the Fellowship Hall fills for the meal; at 5:30 the student ministry begins in the Connection Center and the music team rehearses; at 6:00 p.m. adults gather for Bible study in the Fellowship Hall and Parlor, men meet in the Parlor, and children head to Children's In Action in the Children's Area; and at 7:00 p.m. a Spanish-language Bible study, Estudio Biblico, opens in the FLBC B-Wing. The bilingual rhythm mirrors what happens on Sunday morning and signals how seriously FLBC takes its Spanish-speaking neighbors.
Staying Connected
Sermons from First Lockhart Baptist Church are available online and are livestreamed through the church's Facebook page on Sunday mornings. Worship services are recorded and posted afterward so that those traveling, homebound, or living away from Lockhart can keep up with the teaching of Pastor Dave Peyton and others. The most recent preaching series, "I Am God. You Are Not," has walked through Old Testament characters such as Solomon, Saul, Moses, James and John, and Jonah.
Visitors can plan ahead through an online form that captures their name, contact information, and the service they intend to attend. The form lists each upcoming Sunday's Bible study, fellowship time, and worship services, as well as midweek options, and follows up with details about parking, childcare, and what to expect on arrival.
Giving is available online through a secure giving platform, and gifts can also be mailed to the church's mailing address in Lockhart. The giving page quotes 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, reminding givers that "God loves a cheerful giver."
A Congregation That Stays for a While
From the cradle-roll nursery to the senior adult Sunday School class, FLBC structures itself around long-term relationships. Baptism and church membership have been recent teaching series ("I Am a Church Member" ran for five weeks in July and August 2026), and the church regularly ordains deacons in services the whole congregation attends. The prayer list is read aloud each week, with members praying for one another through surgery, illness, and grief, and the church invites visitors to add their own requests to that same list.
Whether a guest arrives for the early 8:00 a.m. English service, drops in for the bilingual 10:30 a.m. hour, or comes on a Wednesday evening for the meal and the Spanish Bible study, the same rhythm of welcome, teaching, and fellowship runs through the whole week. First Lockhart Baptist Church is, in its own words, "a family, proclaiming the love and grace of God, as found in God's Word," and the doors stay open for anyone who wants to come and see.
